4.5

Felt a bit confused for the first hundred pages or so and thought surely it was over-hyped... but it grew on me despite the messy world-building. What didn't grow on me, though, are the dumb ass names.

However...
Hawke = book boyfriend approved

3.5

•First half dragged on
•Second half felt somewhat rushed
•Repetitive wording was a tad annoying and distracting
•Some characters and world-building could use more fleshing out
•Still not sure if I really care about Oraya
•Raihn is okay - not the best book boyfriend ever - but okay

Still enjoyable but some stuff has not aged well

4 but minus 0.25 for formatting issues like lack of quotation marks and loooooong paragraphs, as well as minor grammatical issues that made it feel like fanfiction at times

So 3.75

Some of the stories were hard for me to follow, but many of them were very informative and eye-opening. Good cultural preparation for my study abroad trip.

Actual review: 4.75

Aspen and Lucy?? It just didn't work for me. I finally came around to the idea of Maxom and America, but the .25 I took away is for Aspen's pairing.
