Why this book?
This is one of the short stories I read in «Her Body and Other Parties», which was a very difficult book to review as (it usually is with most short story collections) I had mixed feelings about the different stories. However, I absolutley love Machados unique writing style, and this retelling of «the green ribbon» is my favorite! It’s a disturbing, erotic, intimate horror piece from a female perspective, and it’s haunting.

Why this book?
The nostalgia of reading this in the 00s stays with you. You had to be there, in the right age, to understand the cultural impact this had on our generation. For a lot of us, this is the book that made us fall in love with reading. Later, we lined up to see the movies in the cinema. I grew up along these characters, and as I revisit these stories (book 1-7), it feels like going home to different parts of my childhood. They will always hold a special place in my heart, especially the first one.

Why this book?
I read this book at such a low point during my teenage years, and for some reason it stuck with me, even though I have killed almost every single plant that has had the misfortunate faith of ending up in my care (and I have unfortunately never gotten a green thumb). After reading this book, I romanticized about using secret language of flowers to create beautiful bouquets. I loved that every flower could have a meaning. As for the character in the book; the thought that I could be something even if these years of my life were bad, had an impact on me at the time.

For en liten perle av en bok.
Why this book?
I got this book as a gift when I was too young to appreciate it fully, and even though I have visited the story several times since, three important lessons was given to me that day:
1) The Beatles is one of the best bands in history! I got a burned CD with all the songs mentioned in the book that I listened to as I read. It was a great introduction to undiscovered treasures in the Beatles discography.
2) After being heavily inspired by this book, I think my subjective opinion is that the best Beatles album is ¨Sgt. Pepper´s Lonely Hearts Club Band¨ and not ¨Abbey Road¨. This forever starts heated discussions, especially with men.
3. This book is ¨almost¨ as easy to read as the bible.

This is such a great introduction to psychology as a field, and I’m so glad I have this in my bookshelf. It is a comprehensive overview that is well structured, and is written so well. It’s one of the few textbooks that was required reading during my degree that I actually kept after I was done.

Why this book?
