I solely wanted to read this book over the location. I absolutely love Colorado even though survival horror is usually not my thing. The problem? I don't feel like the author knew Colorado at all. I looked it up after things felt off and realized the author is Australian living in Scotland so that explains the disconnect. I think this setting would have been better somewhere familiar. Survival horror is a hard genre and you really have to know the landscape to write it.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC.
This was definitely a unique book. It's got some creepy elements because kids really can be creepy and say the weirdest things. It's got a lot of police procedural elements and it's one of my favorite styles: the post incident interrogation where you are figuring it out a long the way. Plus of course the thriller elements.
I really enjoyed the storyline and the journey. I knocked down to a 4 star because I did figure out all the ending twists early. However the beginning and middle twists I don't think I could have seen coming. I also did like the end and it made sense.
Overall this was a unique and creepy journey. This isn't horror but one of the creepier thrillers I've read.
Loved this journey! I've never liked a book inside of a book before but this really made it work. It has a bit of predictable parts but also still manages to surprise!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
This was a really fun and entertaining thriller. I was hooked from the beginning and I always love when a book has a podcast element. This was a bit different than your normal podcast since the MC had already stopped the podcast but the episodes were still included.
I adored the MC, Marty and Peabody especially. They were a lot of fun as characters.
There were quite a few mysteries that are going on at the same time and very interconnected. I didn't expect the twists and how every one intertwined. The ending was also satisfying, which I love!
My only reason for this not being 5 stars is I feel like it was just missing something to make it a fully stand out read. It was great, no complaints, but there was just something missing from pushing it to the best of the best category. Plus I thought it would be a little more eerie with the title and the setting and it was just a thriller.
But overall, a fun and a fast read I would recommend!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
This book definitely gave the Saltburn x Succession vibes it promised 100%. The Sterling family is entitled, unlikable, and wild.
I loved the MC Maya so much and she was definitely the highlight of the book. Her rags to riches story really had me rooting for her and she was definitely tough.
The twists in my opinion were predictable but I still really enjoyed the journey even if I figured them out. I loved the setting of Silver House too.
I do get why it was set in the 2000s with the family being media moguls and that not being a thing much now, however I kept forgetting it wasn't modern and references threw me off like talking about a Razr phone. I do wish the author made the year more clear or just set it modern day.
Overall if you want a soapy twisty eat the rich type drama, I definitely recommend this.
Found this book off Bookstagram last year and finally got around to reading it. I've never read any spicy romances before, normally being a thriller/horror girl. But I really loved the characters, story, and the journey. Can't wait to continue in the series.
This was my first BOTM book box and it was a lot of fun to start. I was intrigued because I love a good mystery at a resort. Plus being over the winter I wanted a good read somewhere tropical. This was a really interesting journey & I did love the plot. It wasn't as focused on The Resort itself as I hoped, but was very summery. It's a very true murder mystery. I also do wish I hadn't read it so close to The Coworker as it did feel similar. However on its own, it kept me guessing all the way to The Epilogue and the twists were great. Definitely a great beach/pool/summer read.
Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for this ARC!
This book was far out of my normal genres so I was a bit unsure starting it, being mostly a romance and a historical fiction with just a sprinkle of mystery. However I'm very glad I did, it really was a great story.
So why not 5 stars? I HATE A LOVE TRIANGLE. Like with a passion. I've always hated them and always probably will. So considering that's a cornerstone of the book, you know it has to be great to be such a high rating.
I stayed a bit unsure of the book in the middle. I did not love Beth, she made very immature decisions though she is really young with a lot of trauma. I didn't love Gabriel either, he was too entitled. Frank was too good for this world in general. However in the end it all made sense.
The twists were some of the most shocking I've seen. I didn't see an ounce of it coming. I audibly gasped.
So whether you hate love triangles like me or it's out of your genre, I say read this regardless. It is worth the journey and such a beautiful book!
I've been reading summer thriller after summer thriller recently and none of them hit. They just seemed too implausible or too shallow. This one did though, finally.
Maybe because of my obsession with Big Brother and this one being reality TV themed and just watching Survivor it hit more. My only complaint? I wish the reality competition went a little longer.
This was such a refreshing taste of a thriller and more a tale of survival. It really was fabulous beginning to end. It's my first Ruth Ware book but I can't wait to read more already.
Wow this was a beautiful and thrilling story. I've been meaning to read this forever and when I saw it pop up on Kindle Unlimited I knew I needed to finally.
This was a twisty tale that I did NOT see any of the twists coming. I am floored by all of them. It's also a beautiful story about hope and found family.
What a lovely way to kick the year off. This is a must read if you love thrillers!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
This was a great palate cleanser book after some with very intense and deep stories. This was your traditional fast paced thriller and I really enjoyed it.
There were so many twists and I did not see really any coming. I was quite shocked. It's definitely wild and out there and totally unbelievable but still a fun journey.
I loved that it was winter themed too. Definitely an enjoyable read!
Whew that was an emotional ride. 😅 You would think knowing the ending of this would make it easier but it was not. I'm so glad I read this after Crown of Midnight because I felt like I had an understanding of the characters and it really made the emotional journey hit. I'm firmly in the don't read this first camp I feel like it wouldn't hit well.
Only down .25 from the others because each short story I wanted a little more. But I appreciate they were short too.

I loved seeing Celeana in her earlier days in this prequel and to really understand who she is now. This backstory was heartbreaking and infuriating and I think I'm as angry at the betrayal in this as she is. Plus really understanding why she says “I am Celeana Sardothien and I will not be afraid” just really makes it hit more now.
I think this was definitely the best so far in ToG. Unfortunately I can't give any review without spoiling the others. This one has made the series worth it so far though!
Another 5 star read in this series. This one was quite different than the first book, but I think I still enjoyed it more even though I loved that one. I did figure out the ultimate twist pretty early but it didn't ruin it. There were still a lot of shocks I didn't figure out too. It was definitely a faster paced book with more twists and turns. I can't wait to continue the journey.
Wow I can already tell I'm on the journey of a lifetime with these books and can't wait to see where it goes.
I waited a while to read these books because well the Maas-iverse is definitely hyped a lot. It didn't let me down though.
This feels like Hunger Games meets Game Of Thrones with a little bit of Harry Potter nostalgia mixed in. I love a great epic fantasy and loved this beginning of what I can tell is going to be a great tale.
Thank you NetGalley and Alcove Press for this ARC.
This book definitely was a cozy, fall book with all the Halloween themes. I really loved the witchy vibes and the fantasy elements. It felt very reminiscent of a 90s era movie like Hocus Pocus or Practical Magic. I absolutely loved the nostalgia of that.
My only complaint was the romance. It felt exceptionally rushed and not well explained. However again that gave in to the 90s nostalgia as love at first sight is a common theme there.
Overall though I really did love this for the Halloween season and was a good break from the norm of horror for the month. I wish more books like this existed for my favorite holiday.
Thank you Edelweiss and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC.
Wow this book definitely defined dysfunctional family and toxic males. 😲
First off this was based on NC and I always love that. Though I don't think on any real place that I could think of - it reminded me of a mix of Boone with App State and Lake Lure with the lake.
I also loved the college setting of the book a lot. The podcast format is always a favorite and I loved the social media add-ins throughout. Plus the dual timelines was great and the sisters were different enough to tell them apart.
This book reminded me if you took Middle of the Night, Listen for the Lie, Daughter of Mine, and The Sundown Motel and combined them. Which was great because those were all favorites of mine this year.
None of the twists took me by full surprise thus the 4.5 rating, but I was still not 100% which theory would pan out until the end. Regardless I loved the journey! Definitely recommend!
Formatting issues with the ARC so I couldn't read it. It was a PDF and doesn't translate to the Kindle.
I was so excited for this book. The title, the cover art, the description. It sounded amazing. Unfortunately I'm still so lost on who every is and what's going because it keeps losing my attention. I love a multiple POV but sometimes it's just too much to make it entertaining. I ended up DNF-ing because of this.
I absolutely loved the series but was it just me or was the ending so rushed & jumbled? It wrapped everything up & everything but it seemed like there should have been 4 books and that she crammed really important stuff into just a few chapters!
I mean aliens? Seriously, cliche much? I thought that the minute I started & there was no twist. This book was slow & could have at least been good. But aliens? That ruins everything! I hope the show is better. That was a month of my life wasted.
I loved every second of the journey of this book! It was a brilliant opening novel to a young adult series and I felt like it's been ages since I've enjoyed such a journey. The fast paced writing left me with no time to really make guesses and I love that I really never predicted the twists. I love all the characters and the first mystery was such a fun ride. I'm already grabbing the second book and can't wait to read what's next. Honestly can't believe this hasn't been more hyped. I haven't enjoyed a YA series this much since The Hunger Games. Perfect if you love YA series, want to be transported back to being a teen, and a good mystery.
This book was so much more fun than I thought. I assumed it was going to be your normal, dark and mysterious thriller. This was lighthearted almost and fun.
Don't get me wrong it's a dark premise and it still had me on the edge of my seat. I mean I devoured it in two days? But the main character was hilarious sarcastic and it was almost feeling like a soapy rom-com with murder. Maybe a bit Desperate Housewives-esque.
It was a lighthearted change I wouldn't have immediately picked for myself but I'm so glad I got.
The ending was a little predictable but it's a small town, only so many suspects. It was satisfying though.
I adored the podcast aspect as I listen to similar podcasts all the time. It was a really fun touch. It really reminded me of a movie Vengeance from a few years ago that I just adored. Knocked the rating a little because I feel like it was almost a direct copy? Unless someone can tell me this was already in the works first?
Regardless it was a fun read! If you want a break from the dark thrillers and love podcasts - read this!
