This was underwhelming to me. I didn't feel any excitement or thrill at all and It wasn't mindblowing either. Although, I thought that the story was good but I just didn't like this compared to Dangerous Girls.
2.5 stars.
This is an enjoyable and intriguing read but for me it was plainly okay. The premise is compelling, the writing is good, the characters are well developed and it's informative and well researched. I also like that this book is open to sex related stuff and talks about different mental illnesses. However, I find Deanna, the main character, as someone who has the desire to kill, to be unconvincing and unbelievable. I also didn't like Jeremy. I don't know what happened but he became the love interest all of a sudden and I'm not a fan of that. The story went to a different direction that I wasn't expecting at the second half of the book and the end became too predictable which hindered my enjoyment a little bit. Overall, its still very interesting and a fast paced book so I would still recommend this to anyone who likes erotic thriller/suspense.
This is an enjoyable read with a strong premise. Its one of those books that you clearly know what happened and who did the murder right from the start but you still want to know the whole thing. Its dark, twisty and plays with your head all throught out. What I liked the most is that it had different character perspectives. You tend to know the motives and the reasons of each character if how and why they did such things. The story became repetitive, but for me, its a good strategy to perfectly show all the angles in the story and for the shock value, which made this book so good.
What I Liked:
• The writing
• The concept
What I Disliked:
• Too short
• The characters
• The ending
Man, I'm too dumb for this.
Edit: After reading what happened to Dazai and how some of the scenes in the book also happened to the author, I don't know if I can be whole again.
Wow! That was smart! Well, of course, we're talking about the queen of mystery here but frankly, this is the very first book that I read from her. The writing is simple but it never failed to lure me in. The plot is unique and very clever. The ending is a masterpiece. I could never figure who the culprit was and the epilogue still blows my mind. The reason why I'm only giving it 4 stars is because I'm looking for more complex elements to the characters but nevertheless this is still a fun and a suspenseful classic read and I'll definitely pick up some of her books in the future.
I didn't expect anything from this book but BITCH I am in shock right now. The story kind of reminded me of Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba, which is my all time favorite anime, so its no surprise why I liked it more from what I was expecting. I don't really have any reason on why I only gave this 4 stars but I based it on the level of my enjoyment, I guess. Still, this is a pretty solid book.
This is the first hardcore horror book that I've read and I will say that this is not for the faint of heart. It is very graphic, gruesome, disturbing and intense. I decided to pick this up because “typical” horror books that I read recently didn't scare me enough so I tried venturing into the extreme and, oh boy, did I get what I wanted. It didn't gave me nightmares per se but it did send some shivers down my spine that I have to take a break here and there because of the detailed descriptions of torture (mainly on a person's genitalia). I can't quite say that I enjoyed this entirely because I was bored in some parts but I got the grossness and the heebie-jeebies so I think it is alright.
i will say that the illustrations and the color palette are so cute, and the characters are interesting and fun, but i would've enjoyed it more if there was a linear storytelling instead of chunks
