Norwegian Wood

Norwegian Wood
ByHaruki Murakami,Jay Rubin

1987 • 1,695 Readers • 389 pages 3.9

Why this book?

Haruki Murakami's "Norwegian Wood" (titled "Norwegian Wood: Tokyo Blues" in spanish) served as my gateway to Japanese literature. While not a full-fledged exploration of Murakami's signature blend of fantasy and realism, the novel's themes and captivating first-person perspective created a powerful and persistent hold on me that didn't want to let go.

Why this book?

While embracing the 'Dark Academia' genre's signature elements of academia, secrecy, and intrigue, "Babel" transcends mere aesthetics. It offers a profound exploration of social issues, challenging readers to examine their own perspectives on violence, revolution, and the pursuit of a just society.
Still gets me thinking every now and then.

Why this book?

While Brandon Sanderson's "The Way of Kings" may not have reignited my passion for reading (credit goes to "The Final Empire"), it undoubtedly evoked a powerful emotional response and solidified my appreciation for reading, particularly fantasy.

The Lord of the Rings

#1-3 of 3 in The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings
ByJ.R.R. Tolkien

Why this book?

Tolkien's LOTR trilogy sparked a torrent of imagination within me when I first read it years ago, thanks to the release of the film adaptations. The vivid world-building and captivating narrative continue to hold my interest, and I believe a reread is in order, perhaps next year 2024.
