as someone who's niche interest is anti multi-level marketing content, I ate all the stories and insides into being in one UP. this book has its flaws, especially at the end but I also didn't come to this book trying to learn new stuff bc I pretty much know most of it already. yeah the virtue signaling was cringe at times and the last chapter made me eye roll at her, but at the end of the day I just wanted some entertaining recounts of being in an mlm and I got it
1.5 stars
ouch this was bad ! every story was predictable and boring and nothing new. only liked 3 out of 11. this author is clearly not for me bc I've read one book by her before and guessed the whole plot after chapter 1.
end of the liner 3/5

I finally came around to reading this book after trying like 5 times before but I wasn't ready. This was a hard and frustrating read but so good and important. I love that Vanessa isn't perfect, especially in the 2017 parts but as a reader you understand why she is like this and its just very sad. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is bc in my opinion it was too long, especially in the second half and there were moments where I zoned out bc nothing really happend. 50pg long chapters were also a little annoying to get thru
4 stars purely bc I've never heard of magdalene laundries before and this book made me go into a rabbit hole to learn more. it was also well written and and I love the small community atmosphere in this one. so short yet made me care abt the characters and I feel like I know them which is insane and impressive to me
2.5?
first book I finished after a slump and it wasn't great. it's YA so was easy to read but god nothing happens in this book. the characters are all bland and if it wasn't for the names in the title I wouldn't know who's pov I'm reading. I do appreciate the rep but it wasn't enough for me to enjoy it. I usually love books about grief but this one was a miss. also I thought there would be some plot twist reveal at the end connecting all those deaths bc the story felt like it was going somewhere but it didn't ?
this was very sad and depressing and yet again I really liked it. grown is still better in my opinion but this one is up there too. I just struggled with being confused for like 80% of the book and after it made sense i liked the story more. I think this has a reread potential too so maybe I will one day. tiffanny d jackson slowly becoming my fav author, can't wait to read her other stuff
tell me why did I put this book away for so long. i really loved this one, yeah I guessed all the plot twists but ruth ware presents these stories in such way that I don't even care when they are predictable. this one even made me tear up at the end and I will for sure remember these characters just like I did with the turn of the key
