Crisp and concise writing with a glimpse into the hardships faced by Gordon in his life to get to the point he is at currently.

Jeffrey Archer has been one of my favorite authors ever since I was introduced to his Path's of Glory. This book marks the starting of the new series, “The Clifton Chronicles”. Much like Archer's other works, this story is set in the 20's and 30's London and takes us through much of Harry Clifton's life as a young boy and later as an impersonating American sailor Bradshaw, who escapes to America faking his own death. Upon Clifton's arrival there under the guise of Bradshaw, he is arrested. This is the last part of the book and the story is continued on in the the book in the Clifton Chronicle's series, “The Sins of the Father”. Archer touches upon incest(not proved, that is the basic story throughout The Clifton Chronicles) in a surprising move, but the suspense and imagery make it worth the read.

For anyone who wants to know how the world was during the World War II, this is an excellent choice as it follows an excellent storyline while keeping in line with the war.
