Excellent novella. Bear at her best (and she is one of ups and downs). The first publication was from 2012 and is catallogued as the first in a series of books. I hope she writes some more. Fantastic ambientation and a call to non-contaminant energies and the dangers of genetic engineering (in the bad hands, like every technology).
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Written while drinking before a dinner table. I hate to say it but the story was so soft that my eyes rolled fifty thousand times for the short length of the novel. The “love story”? Meh. Hard drives in the era of AIs? Ha. I could go on and on. Even being Science Fiction the story needs credibility, and this story has none of it. I'm sure my sixteen years old daughter will like it...or not.
Ha Ha. This guy is funny. Humanity is even bellow insects in its rating, after an application for belonging to the Federation. Ten different reasons why are exposed in this two pages short-short story. But I must say that I feel a little ashamed for the truth behind those reasons. There was some moment in the past where evolution went mad, and now we have this. Next time maybe will be late. Too late. Nice short reading.
2,49 o no aprobado.
Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Pure Hard Science Fiction aiming directly from the pages of the book to your (relaxed) mind to fill you with a sense of wonder that makes you finish this novelette asking for more. Fortunately, there is more.
Warning: Exclusively for Hard Science Fiction lovers. Even lovers of Science Fiction could hate this story. It's full of technobabble and other terms that could make you toss the book against the wall. That being said read it slowly, savoring every line of it, even stopping for a moment to realize what you just have read.
Six stars.
Fantastic mix of SF and Fantasy. One of the best I've read. A novella of discoveries. For the characters in the story and for the reader. At certain point you guess some of the plot but very much of it keeps hidden until the end. A very satisfying read. Mr Tchaikovsky is in my top list of authors and this novella hasn't changed my mind a millimeter.
Easy and entertaining reading. Nothing more, nothing less. Things happen too fast and don't get too many explanations. But that's typical Scalzi.
This book will change your life. At least the part of your life you want to. You don't have to agree 100% with some parts of it, but it's so much you can learn from, that ignoring it because people too frightened to apply it don't consider it a good book is an error. Read it and decided for yourself.
Entertaining. If I had to decide my rating based in two aspects of any novel:
- Wasted my time
- Did not waste my time
I could say that this one did not wasted it. And nowadays that's enough for me
Not for my taste. It has its strong points, but I crawled myself until the end of the novel without any excitement. The history lesson I knew it already, so...
I can't say it's a waste of time, but it's been a waste of MY time.
Four and a half stars. Really, really interesting. But there is something that keeps me from giving it the highest score. Anyway, and given what you have to read nowadays, it's a must.
When you have all the money, power is the next thing.
Don't trust even your shadow.
Friends will be friends, until they are not friends anymore.
(almost) Everybody wants to rule over someone.
(almost) Everybody believes she is in possession of the absolute truth.
Et tu, Brute?
Love will find the way.
We all have an inner monster. Keep it well tied up.
That's all.
Excellent novel. Excellent!!.
