An interesting concept, but the first part of the book really dragged for me. However, the second half picked up the pace and became engaging. Not my favorite YA vamp novel, but an interesting perspective nonetheless.
Definitely went in with too-high expectations. The book, while sometimes providing a fun glimpse back in to the Old Kingdom, suffered from slow pacing. Having finished the book, I understand the character of Clariel more, but while reading it was hard to feel anything for Clariel since she is so distant. I think her story could have more interesting aspects to it, but this origins story unfortunately did not provide any of the excitement that Sabriel or Lirael hold for me.
A book club read that I wasn't all that interested in, but ended up immensely enjoying. It's filled with anger, frustration, humor, and empathy and I devoured it.
Frank usually does a good job mixing romance and plot-driven story, but I didn't find that to be true for this book. I felt like overall nothing of consequence really happened and I was SO tired of Noah and Kestra's romantic interludes which seem to happen every 5 minutes.
This book may have started my fascination with dragons. Cimorene is strong, practical, and engaging, as are most of the characters in the book. I really enjoy this series.
