Another fun read from the Nancy Drew series. I really love how short yet immersive these stories are. Also they are perfect for a quick read to complete readathons. The story was quite complicated with a lot of side issues and it made for some interested reading.
Such a funny, sharp, crazy, caring grandma, Vera Wong is. Her “world-famous” tea house gives me such cozy vibes. Her teas and her fabulous lunches are such a joy to read about. Her Asian elder attitude is so typical and caricature-esque that it is totally hilarious. All the other characters were so charming, too. Even her errant son turns out good, after all. Loved this book.
A wonderful little book with lots of mysteries packed into it - 13, to be exact. A great introduction to the world and life of Miss Marple. Even after multiple reads, the charm remains. It is hilarious how the detective, doctor, lawyer, writer and parson - men of the world - are shocked when the prim and proper spinster who has rarely stepped out of sleepy little St. Mary Mead outwits them at every mystery.
A nice collection of very short fables. They are a mix of popular Indian folk tales (Amar Chitra Katha) or folk tales from other countries. The author has “Indianised” all the stories. Nothing original, here. Just a collection of a few popular and a few not so popular folk tales from old comic books - without the pictures. These simple stories can be told to very little children to entertain them. It definitely serves that purpose.
This was such a fun, easy read. A world of spooky cemeteries, scary real-ish dreams, ghosts that talk and move things around, seances - and yet, wholesome and cozy at the same time. I did guess the culprit correctly by the time I was at 70% of the book, but that only added to the thrill of verifying my guess. Loved it. Will definitely check out the next books in the series.
It is definitely a gripping story, but sad in many ways. Domestic violence is so soul-killing; even today, with all the help available, it still goes on. In the old days, it is inconceivable how much more terrible these lives would've been. A very sad and sorry tale.
A very gripping story. Sara is a young teenager, whose experiences unusual changes and also finds her long lost family - so much to take in, for sure. Loved the quotes in this book; mostly, it is written in the form of a journal from Sara's mother, but there were others as well. Wonderful tidbits on how to live better: every teenager ought to know these, I feel. I do feel invested enough to read the rest of the series.
An excellent book. I'm going to get the next ones in the series immediately. This book is one that has been on my radar for quite a while. Wonderfully written. Gripped my attention right from the beginning. The romance part was very very good, but I realise that graphical scenes are not my thing. I like my fiction clean and respectable. Great book, nonetheless!
An excellent book. I read it in one go, almost. It was easy to read, fast-paced and kept me interested throughout. The story runs along the lines of King Arthur's and the Sword of Excalibur tale - but a very different story still. Also the explicit passages were minimal, that was a tolerable amount for me. I would like to continue this series, very much. Glad I snagged this nice book for free from Kindle.
I do so love the Nancy Drew books. There are like a cozy comfort throwback to my teen years. Such a light hearted, gripping mystery tale wrapped up in a short, sweet story. Also I realised how uncomplicated the youth are in these books. There is so little talk of mental struggles and moping around. There is so much proactivity and enterprise, instead. A very much different world back then, I think. Love it. Oh, and these books are great for readathons. Quite easy to find books that match prompts and a fast read.
A very gripping story. I really liked it. Of course, parts of it is tooo similar to The Hunger Games, but nonetheless, I am very much invested in this series now. Also, I wish that the book had ended on a more positive note instead of leaving the reader so tense and worried.
This book is progressing very slowly for me and it has put me into a serious reading slump. Instead of DNF-ing the book, I decided to flip through the pages quickly, checking the titles, sub-titles and random passages that interested me. It is clear that there is a lot of information, techniques and ideas jam-packed in there. The writing style, perhaps, is not for me, though. As other readers have mentioned, there is too much “padding” and I fully agree. A condensed version of this book might have been more palatable.
Not for me. Bringing the climate change angle into a magical tale seemed a bit strange to me. This is my personal opinion, maybe someone else might find it very interesting, but that's not me. I also prefer magical tales to have more magic and less realism; this book stunned me with real-world facts far too often. Not my style. I did not enjoy it.
I had read this book a long time ago. Actually I started reading it in the hopes that I could complete one more book soon. But, boy, was I wrong. Every incident was stretched and pulled until I snapped. But except for its length, I have no other complaints about the book. The story is good, and as the author mentions in the preface, almost a real-life tale. A sorry tale, told with empathy, with a just ending.
