I was so wrong about who did this! I was certain that I knew who it was about halfway through and I was just waiting for the clue that would confirm my theory. That clue never came because I was totally wrong. I enjoyed getting to know more about the stores and owners around Curds & Whey. I thought Willa's relationship with Baz was realistic considering her investigation style. This has quickly become a favorite series of mine.
I don't know what to say about this book. I liked it, but I can't say exactly why. Yetu was very frustrating, which normally makes me not like a book, but she was working thought a whole lot of things and growing. I liked the way that history and present interacted with each other. It was obviously important for the story, but it felt important for real life too. I liked the way the book felt like a legend coming to life.
Good Haunted House Story
The house, La Belle Vie, is haunted and it just keeps getting creepier. There are secrets to uncover and pain to deal with. I'm figured out the ending a little over halfway through, but that didn't diminish my enjoyment in reading the rest. I think the ending was well done. There isn't exactly one bad guy. There are hiring people making hard decisions. I like that portrayal.
I loved the mystery and the investigation. I figured out the who about halfway through, but I did not guess the whole story. The reveal was well done.
I liked most of the characters, but they didn't feel completely unique yet. So I look forward to some more character development in future books. I liked the slow burn romance. It made sense with the character backstories. This was a good first novel in a series.
The sisters' relationship in this book makes all the difference! I like the record store and the town of Cedar River. I like the way that Juni uncovers the secrets people are holding.
The mystery is good. I figured out who did it a little over halfway through, but I had no clue why. So there were secrets to be found out at the end.
There is a love triangle that does not seem to be resolving anytime soon. I don't like love triangles, so the romance is not my favorite part. The coffee names seemed a little over the top, but that is a minor complaint. Even the love triangle didn't detract too much from my enjoyment.
This is a great first novel in the series. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press.
I loved the historical information, especially the mules. That helped me really appreciate the mules on their trip. The relationship between the brothers and their different family experiences were mostly interesting. There could have been more information about his struggle with his dad, but I still got the overall gist of it. There are a couple times he gets more political than seems necessary. Land especially out west can be a political, so I understand it couldn't completely be avoided. My only other complaint would be that there were some parts that seemed to drag on, so I'm glad I was listening to it because then I could just speed up the audio.
Overall some parts were really interesting and I can't believe he actually thought to try that again. It mostly brought to life what the pioneers had to do to get out there.
Getting to know Maureen, the ghosts, and her friends is part of the fun in this book. Hearing about the old movies was fun too. The solution to the mystery was more complicated than I expected. The family of the ‘bad guy' will have a lot to deal with in the wake of this mystery. I am interested to see what happens in the next one.
I liked learning about South Africa and of course there is lots of action in this one. The solution was well done. There was more romance than I would prefer, but I'm pretty picky about that. I'm not sure how I feel yet about their jobs as spies. It is well done for what it is, but not totally my thing. If you would like to read a cozy spy thriller set in South Africa, I think you will one this one.
I love the writing and Louise is a great character. I do get a little nervous for her because I know she is going to have suffer some in the book. I liked this one better than the first because I felt like she had a more supportive group around her. The ending was bittersweet and appropriate for whatever happens next.
I came into this one with high expectations because I like a cold case mystery and I like this series. It mostly met my expectations. The reveal was dramatic. The spooky parts were spooky and without clear explanation. I would have liked a little more research into what was going on at the time of the crime. But that is a small complaint. There were plenty of interviews with people who knew the victim in back the day. The reveal was a little eh, but the bad guy(s) were really devious. Wow! So the ending was powerful and that is what will stick with me about this one.
I loved this book! I loved that after Tristan saving the two worlds, it wasn't easy. Rebuilding was hard a do everyone is dealing with trauma. So while there are several trying to save the world, they are also dealing with trauma and some are dealing with it poorly. So much action and character development. I had to go get the third one from the library right away. Can't wait to finish this series.
I really love that Leila's parents are Lebanese and they are farmers! That was a wonderful addition. I like that the family relationships weren't easy, but they loved each other. I liked how Leila said what she thought, so she wasn't perfect, but people didn't write her off as mean or awful right away.
There were tons of secrets to uncover, which made for lots of suspects. I didn't figure it out until the very end and even then only half of the solution.
This was a great mystery with great characters.
I love the characters in this one! Maureen had skills from her previous job that she used to make the inn more profitable. I loved all the details about what needed fixed and how she planned to do that. I loved Ted and the owners of other shops and the 4 that sat on the porch. They added a lot to the atmosphere and it made sense that they wanted the inn to be profitable, so they worked for it. Lorna was a fun additional character and it wasn't overdone.
The mystery was pretty straightforward. It was mostly finding out how it was done. The solution was clever and I am glad to be rid of the murderer.
I am looking forward to book 2 in the series.
I like Monica and Gina, but I love Jeff. I love his back story and how caring he is. It really makes me care about the cranberry farm. I also like how Monica is working to find her place on the farm. I figured out who did it a little bit before Monica did, but I had no clue why. This was a great first book in the series!
I can't figure out what my favorite part of this one was, the cheese, the mystery, or characters. All the cheese descriptions are just so amazing that I had to go buy some cheese from the store. I suspected everyone and changed my mind about my number one suspect several times. However in all that suspecting, I didn't suspect the actual murderer! The secrets that everyone was holding on to really helped drive the mystery. The characters are fantastic. Baz, Willa, Archie, and Mrs. Schultz were amazing! I love the relationships Will has with them. It made her little shop seem so cozy and so much like family. This was an absolutely fabulous start to this series.
This has less murder mystery than the previous books in the series, but there is still plenty of action and some mysterious identities. There is lots of Irish folklore as well. I enjoyed learning about the Irish gods and their stories. I love the way they discover the clues and the solution that solves the problems. I don't know if this the last in the series, but it is a good wrap up to the curse part of this series. I suspected part of the solution, but there were still surprises in store.
Overall, this was just what Pippin and Grey needed!
