I've been a fan of Kathleen and Bikini Kill for some time, loved the idea behind “girls to the front” and Riot grrl. This book made me appreciate her even more. Learning about what she went through, how she reacted to things that happened to her and how she was able to do so much with so little rattled my conceptions. I also love her ability to hold herself and the movement she created accountable, adapting when “girls to the front” doesn't serve its purpose anymore. I loved this book.
I thought the book lived up to the hype for me. It was cozy, I was invested in the characters and the romance. I loved the recipes and connected to the story. It truly was “Gilmore girls meets Practical Magic” in the ways I wanted it to be.
I love Alix Harrow's writing. This book had flawed and loveable characters and the house was one of them. Definitely worth a read!
My first kind of scary book as a kid. I know I've said this before but the willingness to treat kids as whole characters and allow them to face true danger really spoke to me and inspired me to read these stories.
The willingness to write children's books with a little edge drew me to all things Roald Dahl as a child. This book does that so well.
I loved this book. She did a great job hopping between timelines and characters in a way that made them still feel somehow connected. I got to know these characters through their own experiences and those of the other women in the story.
Loved loved loved this book. I don't want to give anything away but the bees and beekeeping are basically another character aaand you get the recipes they talk about in the book (which I always consider a plus).
Great imagery, somewhat predictable but still a great read. My one major regret was only listening to this on audible. I read later that there are illustrations in the physical copy. Worth the time!

Good read, definitely a few twists! Nothing earth shattering but as a horror fan I appreciated the nod to the genre.
I thought this had great twists and a unique perspective on some common themes. Definitely worth the read!
Just wow. I listened to the audiobook which was read by the author and it was amazing. A great story about determination, community, new beginnings, family, and food. Highly recommend!
I loved this book! Noemi is such a strong, human character. It was easy to root for her. So glad it lived up to the hype.
I dont want to spoil anything, but it was so good. Highly recommend. It was the creepy, unsettling book I wanted for spooky season. Ill be reading more of her books for sure.
I felt like I was Matilda (minus the whole terrible parent thing). This sparked my love of reading and taught me it was ok to be smart.
I loved this book. It was inspiring and I related to so much of what she struggled with. She inspired me to take on my own shopping ban!
A little slow to get going, but I loved getting to know these characters better. Looking forward to reading magic lessons!
I forgot about this book. I loved this so much. The mother daughter relationship is so riveting to watch. The complex nature plays out throughout the story while the main character learns about herself and how she fits. Definitely recommend, I need to reread this book.
