This book is great to find the motivation necessary to overcome major obstacles and to help you decide when it's no longer necessary to go through those obstacles if your resources aren't sufficient or if the chances of success are too low. Quitting actually helps you.
Fascinating story of an experiment that started in the 1950s in the Soviet Union. It's truly amazing to see that over the course of 60 years they have manage to completely domesticate what used to be wild foxes.
Second book I read by Andre Aciman and I think he's definitely one of the authors who can write about love the most accurately. He's also gifted when it comes to creating complex characters who feel very real.
In Enigma Variations he talks about homosexuality even though it's not the central topic, never stereotypical and always sensitive to the complexity of the topic.
Interesting book but seems more like a promotion tool for Saatchi & Saatchi than an authentic new framework to facilitate understanding of the brand and its relationships with consumers.
Read this book in less than an hour in a delayed French train. Super insightful for companies and people trying to build a data driven culture.
This book is full of practical tips and tricks that will help you avoid the most common pitfalls when it comes to data.
Certain chapters are a bit unnecessary but overall the content is straight to the point and accessible to anyone.
Very informative book about the potential uses of big data, its ethical implications, its meaning etc
Interesting introduction to the Danish concept of Hygge through the personal journey of the author Signe Johansen. Heavy focus on food but some good explanations of key hygge concept. This is more of a practical manual than a analysis/description of Hygge lifestyle
In this book Rand Fishkin presents a very transparent and refreshing account of what it's like being a founder. Rand discusses topic that rarely make it to the public sphere when it comes to entrepreneurship (depression, financial difficulties, layoffs, lack of direction etc).
3 stars and not 4 because it's not super well written.
I was afraid that this book might denounce a huge inexistent conspiracy theory but it didn't. Instead, the author manages to demonstrate step by step how the blogosphere can be hacked and what's the result of so much hacking. A very informative book that might get read a second time !
This book is a wonderful source of knowledge about education in the US and also about the different experimentations that have been set up in order to increase children success. This book focuses especially on pupils with poor living conditions but gives a sense of hope throughout the book. The language is very easy and it just flows perfectly so it's easy and fast to read this wonderful book.
Very technical book. Even though this book discusses an interesting theory the understanding of it is rendered very difficult.
The authors make many references to developing economies and their history which makes it difficult to follow for the average reader.
For instance, sometimes politicians from small nations are introduced in the book and then later referred only by name without any reminders of the context or the country they are from.
However, there are some interesting anecdotes which will make you feel lucky to live in a developed country.
This book is absolutely wonderful and sheds a light of optimism on the past and future of humanity. The first chapters are devoted to arguing Mr Pinker's point with the numbers while the remaining one describe the underlining psychological reasons that support such trends. The language used is clear which makes this book very accessible even for non-specialists. The only thing that annoyed me a bit was that sometimes all the data is a bit confusing !
