I'm not sure why this took so long to finish. I enjoyed it when I read it, I just never really wanted to read it. :/ But now I have and I did enjoy it. Its an interesting tale of George Vanderbilt and his family and home.
Finally found this on goodreads! We love this little book over here. The breathing and squeezing hands exercises can really help my son when he's upset (and me too, honestly). I definitely recommend this one.
This was an interesting little book. There are a number of thought provoking ideas in it. I look forward to reading more Wyndham.
I loved the first section and have struggled since. I'm at 61% and just... don't want to continue. I'll come back to this, or try again, but it's not working for me now...
Got about a third of the way through this. It just wasn't what I expected. Putting the audiobook on hold I didn't see the subtitle, and while that might not have made me not want to read it, it would have changed my expectations. Once the author started referencing Robert Graves's militant atheism, he lost me. There are ways to write about faith and lack thereof, but this book turned me right off. I'd like a book about Tolkien's and Lewis's friendship and the war, but without such a bent to it. My library has an ebook of The Fellowship, about the Inklings; maybe I'll borrow that one day.
This was an interesting book. Nothing amazing, but a good quick, gripping read. I kept thinking about it when I wasn't reading it. (I've been in a funk and nothing has grabbed me, so congratulations to this book!) The end was perfect.
Thanks to Adapt or Perish for highlighting this book I've never heard of before.
This was really good. I knew little about either of these women before, and a joint biography was interesting considering how closely intertwined their lives really were. Brilliant.
Interesting story with interesting characters. Of course nothing is easy, so there's amnesia, people being away, speaking in riddles. Entertaining.
I'm not really sure if I liked this, but I didn't dislike it, and I'll give further books a chance so I'm rounding up to four stars. It had a lot of Austenesque bits, but never felt quite right. The ending felt pretty rushed, too. But entertaining enough.
This was really interesting. I knew little about any of these people except for what was shown in “Desperate Romantics”. What interesting lives they all lived. What a strong person Effie Gray was.
This was pretty interesting. Not quite what the title and subtitle make it sound like though. I think I preferred American Eve by Paula Uruburu overall.
This is a bit long, but it has a good message about how dreams work that I hope will help my son.
Additional dates read (first for year): January 2, 2021
I love this. There's a short introduction and a short biography at the end; the main body of the book is selections of Coles Phillips' illustrations. I'm a big fan of his work, so having a book of it is wonderful. My only complaint would be that I wish it were arranged chronologically, so you could see his work evolve, but I understand why it's organized the way it is. I've already gone through it multiple times and I'm sure I'll go through it many more. (And go look up his art if you don't know him! He does beautiful work.)
I loved this. It's not perfect, but it was so good. I don't have much else to say, but anyone who is married or wants to be or is in a relationship... it's for you.
