TW: Rape, Abuse, Misogyny, War, Mentions of the Holocaust, and Discrimination against Jews.
This book was so emotionally draining that I still cry about the ending. I don't have words to express the love I have for this book. The writing was phenomenal and I loved and connected so much with the characters. I felt like if I was there with them through it all.
I know this is a short review compared to my other ones. I think I said everything that needed to be said. Go read this book if you're not triggered by any of the things I mentioned.
CW: panic attacks, addiction, drug use, graphic injury, blood, fire.
she did it again my dudes.
I LOVED IT!!
TW: Racism, Police brutality, Violence, Whites using the N-word (-er).
thank you netgalley for the advanced audio arc.
This was such a raw and emotional book. Showcasing the truths of the american justice system. A system that is unjustly against black bodied people. Though it may have been a work of fiction, it is very much the hard truth for many that have been (and still are) unjustly incarnated. Between the beautiful poetic writing style that packed a punch in every chapter. And Amal's character and story arc that left you hopeful for justice. I can see this book making such an impact in so many lives.
I definitely recommend this book to every one!!
cw: death of a loved one, grief, school shooting, mentions of gun violence, suicide, islamophobia and racism
rep: Lebanese American, Muslim MC, MC with a Speech Impediment.
Jasmine Warga did it again y'all!! This book was so beautifully written. Warga brings up very serious and difficult theme with gun violence which is something that plagues America every single year. I loved how the novel doesn't expand on the event itself. But, leaves the reader to understand what happened with the brief mentions and conversations that the characters have. It shows the aftermath between the family of a victim and the family of the shooter. And how that affects even the strongest of bonds.
I loved this book so much. Between the gorgeous writing and the characters. This is definitely a book i would recommend to everyone that's not triggered by any of the themes that this book hits.
Also can I just say that I love the adults in this book. Especially Cora's dad and Grandma. I loved how involved and how they were always there for her. On the other hand... throw Quinn's dad away lol.
Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins Children's Books for the e-ARC in exchange of an honest review.
while i liked this book initially, i found out that the author is pro i$r@3l... no thank you.
tw: murder, blood, death of loved ones, bullying, animal cruelty, and use of the r-word (idk i'd it's the translations fault but yeah that's a thing)
the rollercoaster of emotions that i felt in those last few chapters whew!!
3.75/5 stars
Lets ignore the fact that it took me almost TWO WEEKS to read this...
Anyways.. I really enjoyed this book, it was cute and fluffy. BUT it was also not what i was expecting.
WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
Things I loved
- Percy and Felicity
They were my faves I love them so much and they deserve the world.
- Percy and Monty's relationship development
Yes I'm not the biggest fan of Monty but their development is adorable and the letter he sent his dad about them running away together is the softest thing everrr!!!!
- The adventure
I had a love hate relationship with the adventure. I liked the concept of a grand tour of Europe but it was nothing like what I was expecting.
Things I didn't like
- M O N T Y (dont @ me)
I disliked him 90% of the time
- THE ADVENTURE???
Like I was saying i literally went into this book thinking it was going to be a cute read about three pals in a tour of Europe. BUT NO It was nothing like that. It had pirates and a weird ass family it was lowkey a mess.
- Monty's Dad....
he can choke okay..
All and all I enjoyed reading it and i would recommend it. I'm excited for the next book because its in felicity's pov and i neeeeeedddd it.
ps.. do y'all think that fel is aroace? I think so because of the way she was like eh about kissing and all that but Idk what do y'all think?
tw: mentions of sexual harassment, animal abuse, self-harm, murder
I really enjoyed this short story. It made me really excited to pick up the leavers by the same author. I loved Lisa Ko's writing.
CW: racism, ableism, misogyny, use of the r-slur (multiple times), islamophobic slurs and comments, attempted rape, assault, and murder.
The only reason I didn't dnf this was because of Maribel. I couldn't care less of everything else. There was so many ableist ideology and slurs. It lowkey triggered me a bit because I saw myself a bit in Maribel. There was also this really ugly comment when a character said that someone looked like a terrorist because they had a scarf over their head........ yeah. I really wanted to like this book because I love reading books about latine experiences. But this just wasn't for me.
ALSO THE PLOT HOLES AND RANDOM CHAPTERS FOLLOWING RANDOM CHARACTERS WAS SO ANNOYING!!
this was so wholesome!!!! i liked reading this to the kid i tutor! she absolutely loved it
I read this book randomly this morning just to try a chapter. But then I couldn't stop and I finished it

this one was much better than the bad seed. it was so cute. i really loved the message of self care and that you can't change people. it was so wholesome. the kid also really loved it she gives it 5 stars

this line alone made me not want to continue “black ants like Negro slaves, red ones like Arabs”
tw: child abuse, toxic relationships, sexual assault, eating disorders, mental illness, self-harm, sexism, suicide, trauma (thank you to amanda and the publishers for including trigger/content warnings in their books :))
hands down my new favorite amanda lovelace poetry collection. i lowkey cried while reading this one. as someone who isn't completely interested in marrying or having children, this made me feel so seen. this is a collection that i will be passing to my sister to read so she can also feel empowered also. also, the illustrations in this were GORGEOUS!!!
I have no idea what i just read. This book was weird yet i liked the weirdness. The themes the author touched were great and well done. But, this book just left me with more questions than answers. The train of thought writing style left me confused as to in who's head we were in. It went from one character then the next. Honestly, by the end everyone meshed together for me and i didn't know who was who. I am a fan of open endings but this one was way too open not enough explanation of the context that the characters were dealing with at the end. I do see how this book can work for other readers. It isn't a bad but it just wasn't for me.
i read this with the kid i tutor
i really liked it!!! the kid really liked it she gives it 5/5 stars
tw: racism, microaggression, police brutality, and classism.
THIS. BOOK. YALL!!! I can't believe I've been sleepin on this book and Renee Watson for so long.
This is a novel about family, friendship, women empowerment. But most importantly, it's about the difficulties of being a black young woman that is wanting to succeed when so many odds are stacked against you. Jade was a fantastic character to read from, definitely one of my new favorites. I loved how passionate and caring she was. Her development from being soft-spoken and preferring to remain silent instead of speaking up. To the Jade that spoke up and defended herself when no one else did chefs kiss. This is a book I will be picking up to reread as soon as possible.
