Falling in love with this series. I can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to reading them.
I can't believe I just recently discovered Lovecraft. This story may be my favorite of his that I've read so far.
The first Star Wars book I've ever read and I was totally blown away. I'm one of the guys that actually likes the prequels..not near as much as the originals which I was raised on, but I was young enough when Episode I came out to realize that it kinda sucked haha so it's always had a special place in my heart. Now, after reading this book, I have a new appreciation for Episode I and really for the rest of the prequels, because this books basically explains everything that Lucas failed to explain..what the heck the Trade Federation is and why they were blockading The Naboo, where Palpatine/Sidious came from and his rise to power, where Dooku came from and his ties to the story, why at the beginning of Episode II there was a crisis involving separatists threatening to secede..the list goes on and on. Also, you get to see the inner workings of the Republic and the dirty underhanded politics that plagued it towards the fall of the Republic. It was sorta House of Cards meets Star Wars in some ways. Also you learn a lot about the Sith and their origins. Really such an amazing book. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in Star Wars.
I've only read The Langoliers from this book. And it was amazing. It gave me such a feeling of unease and restlessness. The writing was flawless, and the characters were terrifyingly and painfully real. I hope to read the rest of the stories in this book someday! When I do, I'll be sure to update this review ha.
I'm sorry, but I just could not bring myself to finish this book. Maybe it's because I was trying to read this during a difficult time in my life, but it just really did nothing for me. It was actually making me feel even more stressed out haha so I just put it down. I didn't really enjoy what I read..it just felt stodgy and (to me, at least) poorly written. Again, maybe I need to go back and read this when I am in a better state of mind. But for now, I'm leaving it alone.
Wow..just finished this book and I am almost at a loss for words. I just happened to stumble on this book by accident. I saw it at Barnes & Noble and it seemed like a book that I would like! Man..I LOVED it.
Recently I have discovered a huge nerdiness for medieval European history. Part of this is a fascination since childhood, but most of it is from read the Game of Thrones books. Those books quickly became the best books I had ever read. I loved all the political intrigue; kings and lords fighting and pressing claims for the crown and what not. Well..I started to learn that most of that stuff happened in history.
Immediately when I began Lionheart I knew this was going to be one of my favorites of all time. It had it all: sieges, epic battles, TONS of political intrigue, and surprisingly a lot of Christian overtones (clearly, because it is about the third crusade haha..). What I loved the most about this book is the accuracy. Penman used contemporary accounts to make her story all the more compelling. It's amazing how she breathed life into these historical figures and made them into lovable and, oftentimes, absolutely vile characters.
One of the best books I've ever read and I CAN'T WAIT to start reading When Christ and His Saints Slept by the same author.
I mean..what is there to say?! It's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! Haha. My first encounter with this book was in fourth grade when my teacher read it to us. I absolutely loved it. And have loved it ever since. Such an amazing story with an even more amazing story at its heart.
