4.5 this was so good!!!!! This is what enemies to lovers should be. I need to understand that they loathe each other. The stakes were high and the main characters developed. There were parts that were 5 stars and parts that I wished were more flushed out but all in all this was such a good read.
Like sblase I too have many thoughts and will be waiting until book club to discuss and write my review
ok editing my review (1 week later because I can't wait any longer to add this since this is quickly leaving my brain) so I can reference during book club:
This is the best terrible book I've read. The characters were insufferable and the world building was muddled and it should have been about 300 pages shorter. The writing was straight up not good. Violet is clearly a fantasized self insert so why did RY write her to be so insufferable? Nothing about this book felt thought out or defined, which is sad to me because I ate up book 1.
That being said, I did read this almost 900 page book in three days and was practically glued to my kindle. There were parts of it I absolutely loved, but the more I think about this book, the more i dislike it.
4.5 stars. I love girls. How fun to read a classic that's actually good (and written by a woman)
This was everything I hoped it would be and simultaneously so much better than I could have imagined. I love you forever SJM now time to go to bed
How fun. I love that sisters have always been gossiping about men. Classics don't have to be boring and stuffy (esp when they are written by women <3)
“I wrote a pep talk recently to myself on a bar napkin: no matter which road you take, it will be both glorious and unbearable. Every road is lonely. Every road, holy. The only error is not walking forth.
Yesterday, a friend in California, when giving me directions, told me I could take the trail toward the tall pines or turn left and find a field of poppies, growing gold and savage at the edge of the valley.
When I asked which to choose, she simply shrugged and said: either way, it's all heaven.”
As someone who is traveling west again, who is getting married and moving and starting a new job tomorrow and feeling all those emotions compounded, this book felt like a hug.
This book is just cozy and nostalgic to me and I wish JKR wasn't such a terf because I will always be a Harry Potter kid at heart
