Bought it only because of Rashford's name, it turned out to be a book focused for kids. But well, main bhi baccha hi hu in some way. Asked some tough questions “what is your dream?...” And i thought “let me live with my existential crisis”
I was able to look into the Odia culture through the short stories in this book. What are the daily habits, beliefs, injustices, thinking of the people across multiple decades. I have a few favourite ones as well, and I'm happy to share them but more importantly I realized the power of short stories as well as developed an appreciation for a part of India which I haven't ever visited (surprisingly).
Back to reading.
The start is motivational as it's about a young woman, based out of North India, who chased her curiosity to travel and do what she wanted to do. She left her corporate job, sold all her possessions and started to travel. I liked this part as it was catharsis for me, in a way looking for inspiration to do the same haha.
However, the chapters don't weave into a compelling story so it's difficult to keep your interest for a long span of time.
Simple outcome: Going to North-East India in the next 2 years, for a >2 week backpacking trip.
I really liked the detailed and memorable experiences mentioned, be it positive, neutral or negative. Emotions are natural, and if you remember some of them, they are worth mentioning. Could visualise the travel on the budget couple facing difficulties yet enjoying the conversations and scenic views. They had a plan, yet didn't plan out the way they wanted. Were comfortable with spontaneity.
Only thing I wanted - Photos! Or is it just a simple trick to build the eagerness within, which will take me to NE... My mind thinks.
Another good collection of stories. New culture, new stories, new perspectives but some similar situations. Feel more connected to the pain and struggles in small towns, as well as the little joys. Highly recommend this series of books of different cultures.
Warm and comforting.
I'd never read Ruskin Bond in my childhood, but this book (first of his) tells me a lot about his style of writing. Full of nature, small things that mostly go unobserved and everything joyous.
Will come back to read these nuggets of comfort and happiness.
A very light and casual read. Told me a lot about the Danish way of creating homes and a glimpse into what life in Nordic countries would be like. It appeals to me.
Fun little book for a newbie like me to get acquainted with the world of coffee. Coffee lovers always seem to me like they're part of a cult, and now I know why. Coffee is complex, from the brewing methods, to bean varieties, to machines to make coffee, to the variables in the entire cherry to cup journey.
PS. Recently got gifted an aero press, so thought it's worth spending my time on this. If you want a freshly brewed cup of coffee, I can be your barista!
Oh, how beautiful is this book!
I was hooked from the first page itself. The way struggle and pain is described, it was almost aspirational. How the spirit is described, I could feel the spirit within myself maybe for the first time. I now want to explore the depths of my spirit, see how strong it is. Is it also made of an iron-coated core of resolve? Maybe cycling or running or TT or trekking will help me find it.
I'm going to find more about this book, if this story has been translated into a movie / show or not. And if not, it fully deserves to be made into a film. How I would love to be a part of its movie making process, making sure the emotions, feelings and poetry is not lost.
Whenever Bahadur ran, I could feel my legs urging me to run, not for proving anything to anyone, but for the “unselfconscious smile of joy”
Decent book, gives first hand insight into Novak's life, but focuses majorly on his career's turnaround. It wasn't due to any change in personnel, workout or sleep schedule, but just getting his food right. With time and also being better at just observing my body, I feel gluten in too much quantity isn't good for me, neither is dairy. Novak makes a good case to try a gluten free diet for 14 days.
Also, I was expecting more about his mental strength exercises. I've always admired him for that, he's insanely tough mentally.
Important note: I read the original script / screenplay of Interstellar that Jonathan Nolan wrote in 2008, keeping Spielberg in mind as the director. When Christopher picked it up in 2012, he made massive changes (massive!!! And beautiful).
I'm in absolute awe of Christopher Nolan and his team. The how and, more importantly, why he made the changes that he did. Phenomenal.
I have the soft copy of the original script, if anyone needs.
Great read for a BVB fan. Extremely well researched and tells a great story about the club's history, centered around the fans. However, It was a little too detailed for me.
Ek time pe relevant thi, tab li thi. Aaj subah thodi relevant lagi toh padhli. One of those books you read when you need such comfort. Will be on the shelf now, until well, I'll need it randomly some day.
I bought this in Colombo, because I wanted to read a book on my Sri Lanka trip by a local author.
I was nervous about this book, after all its a book about the life of a crow and their tribe.
Boi oh boi, I'm surprised at how this short book kept me hooked. It's simple, comfortable and leaves me thinking about the life of an ‘ordinary' crow. Now, weirdly, when I look at any crow, I'm able to think from this perspective.
I recently got shat on by a crow. I wonder if he was the local ‘Rectum Ranger champion' of the day. If you were - cheers my friend xD
Funny little book on different types of cyclists that I found in a random book fair in Koramangala.
This book really helps you understand, segment and prioritize the internal thoughts while playing tennis. How your consciousness keeps telling your sub consciousness to correct things if you make an error. The result? It leads to you just focusing on that one particular stroke and particular muscles, eventually hampering the shot.
It asks you to trust your sub consciousness. It tells you to learn strokes not by words but by experience and visualization.
It also provides techniques to improve focus during points and between points, as well as advice on physical techniques.
Given a sports book, felt it could be illustrative to convey better.
