Not my favorite of the series - that's All the Feels! - but still sweet and fun.
I will admit I like Dade's writing but I'm ready to read more of her stuff that isn't this series.
Oh my goodness! Did I like this even more than the first one?! Possibly. It is a very well executed treatise on trauma and how it makes you feel worthless and undeserving of good things. My heart kept breaking for Vanja even as she got some healing. I need the next book IMMEDIATELY. :
Fast paced, fun, and with lots of references for all the nerds in your life. I also really appreciated how Zhao doesn't shy away from addressing the politics of China but doing so in a really accessible way.
This was a wild read. As others have said, I'm glad her mom died too. I wish only healing for McCurdy!!
First of all, the dreamy, watercolory art is absolutely GORGEOUS! I loved the story and the analogy of a trans/alien experience worked for me. Definitely more of a romance than a superhero story, it's still a great origin for a cool new hero!
This was great! I like Keefe's writing and while some pieces I liked more than others - the wine one because I love to see rich people getting scammed and Amy Bishop - others weren't quite as interesting but still good.
Again: I love these books and I loved Earstripe and the gnoles!! I didn't love the murder maze but that's just me. Still a great read!
Oh I ADORED this!! I loved all the characters (except the TERFs obvi) and I need the next book like IMMEDIATELY!!!
Gorgeous and sad and infuriating. I love Beatons work so much and it was great to see some of her more serious stuff. I got so choked up about Becky even tho she isn't a part of the hook. There was something about a particular time on twitter that it really felt like you knew her. It was like seeing an old friend.
I loved this! Not only was it a great history of the franchise but it SHOULD -but it won't - silence all of the annoying fans who moan about “Gene's vision” and what is real Star Trek. It's ALL real Star Trek, especially the Star Trek you don't like.
It made me cry multiple times and made me it all even more.
My one quibble was going to be that the author didn't focus enough on what an absolute piece of shit Rick Berman is but I can see how that's not really the point. Plus most people know. Fuck that guy.
I loved this! I think the author did such a great job capturing the dynamics of sisters that are really different from each other. The characters were so well developed that they felt like real teens! I'm excited to see what else this author writes because this is a great debut!
Not all Webtoon to traditionally published comics work but I think for the most part this one does. It is a sweet, atmospheric tale of friendship and loneliness. The art is really nice and I think teens will enjoy this nice little snack of a comic!
A sweet, teen romance with a focus on STEM and girl power. I found the sections about Bel's parent's divorce and her struggle of feeling trapped between them especially good, tho it does seem to wrap up pretty neatly.
A sweet exploration of relationships and what makes them work. If you're looking for a comforting, low-conflict comic with witchy vibes this is for you!
I had heard the general story of the Bender family but really appreciated the background information the author gave about the politics of the time, and the attention paid to the victims' lives.
I really enjoyed this! Eloise is really funny and heartfelt when talking about her OCD and autism. She also helped me to understand “Disney adults” a bit more which I appreciated.
A spooky, thrilling page-turner! Adams does a great job with the setting, giving it a real sense of place and the plight of Black lives in Appalachia - there are “good” Black people or a “bad” Black people and those labels mean different things to different people.
I think this would work well in concert with Megan Giddings' Lakewood.
A funny and sweet memoir of being trans and just in suburban hell. Cute and delightful!
Anna's Year of Manga (TM TM TM) continues with another one shot by Fujimoto. I liked Goodbye, Eri a bit more but I still liked this sweet friendship story torn about by violence. Through this I learned about the Kyoto Animation arson in 2019 which I had not heard about which is absolutely heartbreaking.
A good read if you want to be a little sad. (I always want to be a little sad.)
I really liked this horror that confronts generational trauma and history in an interesting and totally creepy way. I also loved how Raquel is queer but coming out isn't a concern nor is parental or even friend acceptance. It's nice to have a LGBTQ+ character that gets to be her own hero without those concerns weighing her down! :)
