This was a lovely lighthearted read, although I found Liza, our main character, really frustrating at times!
It was well written and I did rather enjoy the tree plantation setting. I also loved Liam. He was definitely one of my favourite characters!
Thank you to PH and Heidi for the chance to read this book.
Enjoyed that, although with other stuff going on it took a while to finish! One of the most interesting things about this series is the unique ‘talent' of DI Sean Corrigan. I read a lot of crime thrillers and I've never come across a story with Sean's unique ‘talent' of being able to think like the criminals he's chasing, which makes this series very interesting!
Like The Keeper before this, this was very good! Good writing which made it possible to literally share DI Corrigan's frustrations at the case's lack of progress at times! On another note, I really, really can't stand Assistant Commissioner Addis. Like dude, THEY WERE TRYING THEIR BEST. GIVE THEM A BREAK!!! His attitude sucked, but I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty more of him in future books!
I personally found this a really, good read. Tense and very atmospheric...you could really tell as you read, that there was something very weird and sinister going on at Querencia, the family home where Nina lives with her daughter, Aurelia.
However, my one disappointment was the lack of proper background for the characters. There were the odd snippets here and there, but I felt it wasn't the full story. It made it difficult to fully emphasize with the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley, Anna Downes and the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this book.
I really enjoyed reading this.
Allegra aka Freckles is a quirky character. She's a parking warden and one day during her rounds she tickets a yellow Ferrari, which leads to her meeting Tristan, the owner of the Ferrari. At some point during their conversation he tells her that ‘you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with ‘.
Allegra can't stop thinking about this and it leads her to a journey of self discovery as she tries to figure out who her 5 people are.
There are some laugh out loud moments, as well as some palm face moments as we follow Allegra on this journey.
I loved Freckles, although at times I did find myself feeling a little frustrated by her.
Thank you to PH and Cecelia for the chance to read this book.
This was my first time reading a book by Kim Kelly and I can't say it will be my last!
Thoroughly enjoyable read, with authentically pleasing characters, with very likeable personalities (apart from Jane!). The realness of the characters struggles with grief, loss, guilt and sadness made it easy to empathise with them and take an instant liking to them.
The book was beautifully written, allowing you to share the characters' emotions from their happiness, to their heartbreak. Feeling their pain and grief, you really find yourself rooting for them and hoping for them to get their happy endings.
The characters became like friends and I'm really sad to say goodbye to them! I especially loved Dr Vivienne Yu, with her funny, eccentric ways! She really was hilarious.
Thank you to Pigeonhole and Kim Kelly for the chance to read this book and to my fellow Pigeonholers for once again making it a wonderful reading experience!
This book is amazing and I would highly recommend it!
This had some really good descriptive writing, but the story fell a bit flat for me with not a lot actually happening in the story. Also, it didn't help that I found Sarah's behaviour utterly ridiculous.
The ending also left me feeling disappointed.
Thank you to PH and Louise for the chance to read this book.
This was my first time reading a book by Lynda and I can't say that I was disappointed! It was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I loved Jack and Maggie's characters! I loved the complexity of Jack's character and how Maggie was there with her no nonsense attitude to get him back on the right track (not that he was fully off track, but she was always there to remind him about what's important and what's not, etc).
This was only the first book with Jack's character in it and after reading this one I can't wait to read more about his adventures!
Excellent book and would highly recommend it to others!
Wow, it's nice to have read a book that really lived up to the hype surrounding it (I've not always had the best of luck with those!)!
This book had everything from sadness, heartbreak, bravery, despair, and hope.
It was truly horrific reading about the atrocities faced by the prisoners of Auschwitz...and it makes you wonder how something so horrific could've been allowed to happen. One of the most awful crimes against to have occured.
I know Lale was the tattooist and he felt really guilty about it, but I think he did what he had to do in order to survive. I admired his bravery in trying to help his friends in whatever way he could.
I say the same for Cilka, who I can't believe was charged with being a collaborator and sent to Siberia for sleeping with the ‘enemy'! And for 15 years! Like she actually had a choice in the matter! It was either that or ending up dead, since I don't think the commander's ego would've been able to handle being turned down! Like one horror camp wasn't enough, she had to go through it all again!
Going back to Lale and Gita, it's admirable that they were able to build a life for themselves afterwards despite the horrific trauma they were put through in Auschwitz. I also love that they were able to find love in amongst all that daily terror, when never knowing if they would be surviving from one day to next.
I have loved reading this book and would definitely recommend it!
This was my first time reading a book by Susan Mallery and I have to say I really enjoyed it.
It was well written and a nice lighthearted read. Characters were likeable and I loved the humour in the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Susan for the chance to read this book.
Wow, this was a brilliant, brilliant read although close to being terrifyingly realistic too!
It was action packed with some great characters. I especially loved Kiah and Abdul and their strand of the story is definitely the one I enjoyed the most although it was scarily tense at times.
Well, with the likelihood of a nuclear war erupting, other parts were extremely tense too!
There were some not so great characters too and I would have happily reached into the book to give them a good shake!
Ken is an amazing storyteller and once again he's delivered a blinder. He's definitely become one of my favourite authors!
Thank you to PH and Ken Follett for the chance to read this book.
I definitely highly recommend it.
The writing format with the emails and notes, etc meant it took a while to get used to. I was expecting it to be written normally with the odd email, note or letter thrown in, so hence the surprise when it was the other way around.
I'm not usually a fan of that writing style so thought about giving up on it, but then decided to stick with it. I'm glad I did because I ended up enjoying it. I love how Bee understood her mum and was the only who wasn't interested in giving up on her! On another note, Audrey totally ended up surprising me (without giving too much away, she was really annoying until she went and did something that completely made me change my mind about her!).
It was a good, lighthearted read.
This is only the second Logan McRae book by Stuart MacBride that I've read. The first one was the 12th book of the series. I know it's probably better to read the books in order, but All That's Dead is the first Logan McRae book I came across, so yeah I read that first.
Anyway, getting back to this one, despite the fact that it's taken me so long to finish it (I started it in August!) I really enjoyed it. I love a good thriller and especially when the book has one lead detective.
It was a bit grim reading with the storyline involving children going missing/turning up dead, but it was really well written.
I will definitely be reading the rest of the Logan McRae series and also the other books written by Stuart MacBride.
Thank you to Stuart MacBride and NetGalley for the chance to read this book.
What an absolute thriller! Despite the grizzly murders, I thoroughly enjoyed this!
I went into this not having read the first book in the series, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Having read this, I feel like I've done myself a disservice by not having read the first book despite it being on my TBR list for a while!
I loved DI Henley and her team and will look forward to reading more books involving them.
This was brilliantly written and it had me hooked from start to finish.
Thank you to PH and Nadine Matheson for the chance to read this book.
I highly recommend it!
So I watched the movies ages ago and loved them, but despite having had the books for ages (years!) I'd never got round to reading them!
I finally have, although when I say ‘read' I mean I've listened to the audiobooks (saying that, having the books myself, I did follow along in the books). They were narrated by Rob Inglis and they were soooo good!
Listening to all three books from start to finish took me ten days. I'm not sure how long it would've taken if I'd read them by myself (a lot longer than that, is my guess!).
I think alot of the enjoyment of listening to it came from Rob adapting his voice to all the different characters! He did such a brilliant job of that. Well, that and bringing the story to life!
I'm sure I would have enjoyed reading on my own, but hearing the narration was a 100% better with the voiceovers!
Another reason for enjoying listening to the books was because it meant hearing the correct pronounciations of characters, places, etc.
This was such a fabulous and utterly joyful read!
It was really well written and had a wonderful cast of characters. I really loved Tova and Marcellus.
I loved how the relationship between Tova and Marcellus evolved as the story went on.
Thank you to PH and Shelby Van Pelt for the chance to read this book.
This was my first Jeffery Archer book so I was unsure what to expect, but I ended up really enjoying it.
I loved Detective Warwick and will definitely be looking to catch up with the previous books in the series!
Despite not reading the previous books, I was still able to follow the story and characters without too much trouble.
Thank you to PH and Jeffery Archer for the chance to read this book.
Having read the first two books, I was looking forward to reading this and it definitely lived up to expectations!
I love DS Max Craigie and the gang and once again it was a fabulous ride with them.
Fast paced, well written and with some great characters. I probably would have read the book in one go if I'd had a physical copy of the book.
If you haven't read this series, then I definitely recommend it!
Thank you to Pigeonhole (PH) and Neil Lancaster for the chance to read this book.
That was a brilliant book. So hilariously funny that I couldn't stop laughing out loud whilst reading!
Loved Ellen. Such a funny character. She literally had me in stitches at times.
If you want a laugh out loud read, then you have to read this.
Wow, for a novel that was one intense read! That was a really, really good. Even though it was fictional, it was still interesting reading about the Spanish Civil War. Not to mention reading about love, courage, standing up for your principles.
I would definitely recommend this to others.
That was another really good read! So full of a roller-coaster of emotions from happiness, to sadness, to heartbreak. Got me hooked from the very first page! Would definitely recommend to others!
That was a really good book, with quite a few unexpected twists. Despite being co-authored, it was very well written! I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend to others!
Wow! That book had it all! Drama, twists and turns and humour (despite being a crime thriller). First book I've read by this author and I really, really enjoyed it! Would definitely recommend to others!
First time reading a book by this author and it was a great read. Fast paced and a definite page-turner!
