Ця мені сподобалась в рази менше за попередню книгу. Багато драми і страждань тільки заради драми.
Також мені не дуже подобається стиль ілюстрацій. Шкода, що Небо перестало випускати версії своїх видань без прикрас.
This one was a bit of disappointment. I didn't really understand what was going on for half of the book and then I just couldn't bring myself to care.
I liked the part where Rin was a student. My feelings for the rest of the book are less defined. But it is very well-written nonetheless.
Отак я й подужала найстрашнішу книгу на моїй поличці.
І хоч мої страхи не зовсім справдились, жахаючого тут вистачило. І повної безнадії, від якої я часто не могла заснути.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and the ending was truly terrific, making it one of the best series I've ever read. And to think that I came close to giving up on the series at the beginning of the second book... It's hard to fathom that I almost missed out on all of this. The emotional impact of the book hit me hard, and it felt like I experienced every conceivable emotion multiple times throughout the story. Interestingly, across the seven hundred pages of Jade Legacy and its numerous time jumps, I never once felt bored.
I'm way too overwhelmed by the scope of the series at the moment to write a coherent review. I must emphasize that the ending is incredibly satisfying and, dare I say, poetic. It ranks among the most gratifying conclusions I've ever read. I plan to revisit this series soon, appreciating it right from the start this time.
I really liked The Housemaid. Both characters were awesome. One thing I found doubtful was a bit too convenient police, but otherwise a great book.
It was sometimes painful to read, but it had got interesting to read closer to the end.
Spoilers!
I really don't know how I feel about that end. I loved Cole from the first book and I was si happy to read so much Nik/Cole relationship. And than that devilish plan. But it was great.
Down Comes The Night is not a bad book in itself, but I expected something more. I even don't know what I expected. I just haven't felt any connection to the characters. They even didn't annoy me. Which is a win, I guess.
Wow. Just wow. I don't know what to say. I'm not sure. But I'm totally excited. Completely.
Update as of 9 June 2019: Well. It was a third reread. I have my issues with Sarah J. Maas writing, but the story in A Court of Mist and Fury is so... moving.
It even made me contemplate reading Empire of Storms. But honestly, I have no idea if I will.
//End of update//
It is a magnificent novel. Magnificent. I'm just a little without words at the moment. That was a freaking rollercoaster and not a novel. And that ending. It just broke something in me, but it was epic nonetheless.
The beginning was hard. After everything that the characters had endured, they deserved happy ending for themselves, but there wouldn't be the second book if everything was so simple. Everyone dealt with the aftermath of Amarantha at best they could. Well, someone couldn't and it broke everything. Honestly, the first part of the book was the hardest for me. Tamlin avoided the problem and look where it got him. Spoiler: nothing good.
The second part of the book was way too entertaining. Don't get me wrong - there were hard moments, enough of them. But there was also hope that everything can be righted. I really loved new characters and what they brought to the story. There were a lot of moments where I was ready to burst with happiness and laughter. And I love this book for that.
Ther third part was bittersweet. I knew all too well that it couldn't be that good for too long. So many things had gone wrong. So many things could be different if only one was changed, but we got what we got. What is there to say? The ending was a bit cruel but just so dramatic. And I'm glad that the author hadn't left it as an absolute cliffhanger (just a little one).
One of the things, that I loved the most about this book is that it was told wholly from one perspective. I do enjoy when there are two POVs and more, but that way there is always one or couple that I like less.
Right now, I would love nothing more than to dive into the third book right now (I really anticipate the moment when one High Lord realizes what he's done), but, most unfortunately, I need to study for my exam.
That was cozy and cute, but I don't understand why everyone seemed to cry from this book.
Definitely not the best series with mystery that was three books long.
But the romance in this book is the worst. How it even comes to someone's head is a mystery for me. Davis is a real d$ckhead who does nothing but humiliates the main character.
That was cute and fun. Even third act break up was reasonable and not simply a miscommunication. There were a lot of character development, but in the end it was a bit too fast for my taste. Otherwise it is a great book.
I feet a bit ashamed. I had so many issues with this book, that it is hard to count. Characters, plot, world-building, literally about anything. And then you what I did? I stayed up till 5 AM because I just needed to finish this book.
What was good in this book:
- parts starting from around 70% of the book. That's where everything picked up speed and all the plot twists were were coming at the speed of a motor vehicle instead of the snail-slow pacing of the beginning. And it was even engaging.
What I didn't enjoy:
- Characters. I couldn't discern between them if not for the color of their hair. Here we have the most beautiful angel, there is a striking medwitch, somewhere over there is the most gorgeous wraith and so on. No matter how small mention of a character we got, it is always the same - He/She was the prettiest male/female ever seen and his/her power was unparralled to any other. Because had I mentioned that god save us the character wouldn't have a special superpower.
- Unnecessary swearing. Like for real. The book would've been a 100 pages shorter if the word “f*ck” was edited out.
- Bryce is such a Mary Sue. Despite being told throughout the whole book that her power level was low, but of course till the end of the book she had more power that any other being in the city. And I didn't even mention what a special beautiful and curvatios snowlake she is. And how every “male” was ready to take her right there.
- That scene where Bryce tried to take Hunt's place. OMG, I so waited for the reveal of some clever plan. I just couldn't believe the sheer stupidity of what she intended to do.
- Portrayal of drug use. Especially in the beginning. That was disgusting.
- No logic in acquainting readers with the world. It was either a blatant infodump (which for me is a preferable option) or we see something, it gets mentioned again in 15 pages, and again in 20 pages and after that it gets explained in the way we already had to understand what is going on. By the way, I still don't know how this planet of Midgard looks and what all the random names belong to, and the author already gone into establishing parallel words and realms.
- If this book had an editor - he did a poor job. This book is overlong but at least 300 pages. And so confusing.
At this point, I'm tired and have no inspiration left for this review.
But you know the worst thing? I will still read a next book.
It was good, but not as good as the fist one. Or at leat I wasn't so emotionally attached to this one.
