Weird School Prison Torture.
I feel like this book was written for tweens but then has adult content which while not graphic, it's just thrown around with no real repercussions or depth.

and not even a whole week because he would disappear for hours and then they “died” for a day!
I do not understand how to critically review a book. That being said,I really enjoyed this book. The plot was easy to follow but still kept you guessing. The character's weren't heavily complex but I will argue that they are realistic with their different life experiences that makes their actions understandable. This book does feature some sensitive topics (SA, Addiction, Abuse, Death) but they contribute to story progression and are not discussed in depth. This book also features WLW interactions that do not feel heavily sexualised and queer relations are represented as much as straight relationships. I highly enjoyed this book and I think that the average queer young-adult fantasy reader would also like it.- Avril She They 2021

It was a good piece of filler while waiting for the next instalment.
Just had to push through the pain of knowing what's coming when you're given more reasons to care so deeply.

This book gave me weird vibes so I've been avoiding reading it. Could have easily DNF'd but decided to push through. Featuring Disney syndrome with the dead parents and abusive guardians. There is an orangutan for some reason. My main gripe with the book is I don't appreciate how a white lady trivialises these ancient cultural practices and traditions for the sake of writing a strange 90 days around the world featuring tribal magic.
I picked it up for the pretty book cover not the generic title, but I was pleasantly surprised. The characters feel so realistic and likeable while not being perfect.
For half the book I thought the “Him” chapters were written from a different characters perspective but upon reflection I don't think that was intentional and I'm just dense.

When you came to the farm and I thought I would have to shoot you. You told me to aim for the torso because it's a bigger target. Then laughed when I said your head looked big enough to me. - Chapter 32
I thought I might be losing interest in this series after I didn't get hooked on the second book like I fell in love with the first one but that was not the case here because I'm obsessed. The way it brings everyone together and then set up the next part of the story is delicious. There were plot twists that I didn't see coming but made absolute sense and I was like woah.
