4.5 star“Wanting is dangerous. The less you want, the safer you'll be.”One of my fav thrillers for this year!! A great book with amazing character development. Most of the books I have read which are character-driven don't take the time to properly describe each character but in this, everyone was perfectly portrayed, we got to see their strengths, weaknesses, flaws, etc...What I loved about the book;-The setting(who doesn't love a good dark academia setting?) -Flashbacks.-Even though the MC was Jessica we got chapters from the other characters' pov as well, so it was very interesting to read.-This has happened only once before with a thriller([b:The Au Pair 51200711 The Au Pair Emma Rous https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1565535897l/51200711.SX50_SY75.jpg 59174124]) but the scenes toward the end nearly had me in tears.-And last but not least the love triangle, it's been a while since I've read a good love triangle and I was a huuugee fan of the love triangle in this book, maybe even more than the plot lolWhat I didn't like; Not much really, I didn't like Jessica at first but in the end, the reasons as to why she was acting like that were explained and that made me feel sorry for her.“I studied myself the way I'd done my whole life, searching for what others saw whenthey looked at me.”Overall this was a really good book and I think you will love it if you are a fan of dark academia, alternating timelines, and multiple povs.Go into this with no expectations and you might end up loving it:)
Sibby started off the day with a boyfriend and a boring job and ended the day with neither. Instead of locking herself up in her house she goes to a bar with her best friend, gets drunk and the rest is history.
I really love Sibby as the main character her personality, quirky traits, how she was good with the customers in the restaurant, etc And I loved how she was able to make a crappy day end well.
I was looking for an easy light read because I had read a lot of thrillers and I wanted to finish off September with a light read in preparation for all the thrillers I was gonna read in October. I wasn't expecting to love the book but it completely exceeded my expectations.
It was a cute and fluffy read with a lot of parts that will make you laugh till you cry and with parts that will make you think about your own life.
I loved all the characters in the book but if I had to choose it would be Annie, Zeb, and Aidan.
3.5Didn't scare me but the twist was sad and a bit shocking.I wouldn't call it ‘for fans of [b:The Silent Patient 40097951 The Silent Patient Alex Michaelides https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582759969l/40097951.SX50.jpg 59752778] it was much better than that!
A very unique book i haven't read anything like this before....so we get Lucy who is a psychologist but she doesn't understand basic human emotions and she has to conduct a hypothesis regarding human emotions so that she wont lose her grant.
I found this to be a very enjoyable read. And I loveedd Jensen one of the sweetest guys:) and Freya is amazing tooo.
The reason why I gave it 3 stars was The romance aspect was kind of cliche you know we Lucy meets Jensen and gets attracted to him, but before despite being his neighbor for a whole year she didn't even get to meet him..weird right? Also I felt like the whole thing was kinda insta love and I hate that trope ngl.
The thing I loved most abt the book was Lucy's brothers I am a person who loves pranking ppl and I feel like if they were irl ppl we would get along pretty well!
3.5
Very cute I loved the buildup!
But I wasn't a fan of Rachel:( If u read the book uk what I mean. If it weren't for her the book would have got 5 stars.
2.5 star
Okayy so as soon as I started reading this I noticed that it had a very weird writing style, there were no dialogues!! And it was so confusing at times. But I was ready to ignore that if the plot was good.
Spoiler: it wasn't
Most of the reviews I read talked about a plot twist so I was looking forward to that, but the twist was so mehh, it was predictable, disappointing, and the way it had been portrayed left a really bad taste in my mouth.
While reading there were so many red flags that I ignored and I regret doing so ...but I really wanted to see what that ‘TWIST' was.
Some of the red flags were; 1)ofc the writing style which I mentioned before.
2) CHILD ABUSE (this is where I draw the line)
3)The characters were so unlikeable!! Normally Idc about the characters because I read it mostly for the plot and the twists but these characters were just downright insane!!!!!
I know that this is a work of fiction but the way the author had portrayed child abuse was too much for me to ignore. And the fact that this happens irl to kids makes it that much more terrifying how can people be so inhuman?
Also, I saw this review “With friends like this who needs enemies?” and I couldn't agree more. If I say more on that it would spoil the book so ill stop here
Days after reading this and multiple attempts after trying to reread the last few chapters and I am still so freaking confused by the ending. It just made me go wtff coz I was so confused. I hate when a book doesn't end well, at least if there were a sequel to it, it would be acceptable but there isn't one for this so idk.
I normally don't give low ratings to books coz writing a book and publishing it, isn't an easy task but this book just made me feel so sick that if I could just wipe out my memory of it, I would!
You might be wondering after all that why did I give it a 2.5? well here are the reasons
1. The setting was perfect!! In Sweden in the middle of nowhere surrounded by forests and lakes I just loved the setting.
2. The various Swedish references throughout the book
3. Last but not least Connor, the only redeemable character from the entire book.
“I hope you find someone you can't live without.I really do. And I hope you never have to know what it's like to have to try and live without them.”
Read this during Christmas time and it was a welcome break from all those cheesy Christmas romances I have tried to read and dnfed for the past few days. I loved most of the characters in the book and even tho America annoyed me at times I was able to get past that:)
“It's always the fear of looking stupid that stops you from being awesome.”
I loved all the vibes of the various dresses, the food and the palace❤️❤️
“No, I'm not choosing him or you. I'm choosing me.”
And the growing romance was amazing, but I hated the fact that Aspen appeared as a guard ughhh why why whyyyyy America and Maxon were getting along well and Aspen had to come and become a guard ughhh I was sooo freaking mad coz of this!!!!!!!
I read this in a day and cant wait to read the books from d rest of the series!!
