A straightforward action-fantasy book. What you see is what you get; dinosaurs running around on an island. The kids are insufferable and boring. No character development or depth to the story.

The reputation of this book flatters the actually quality of it. Super cool concept and world building of the town Derry. Was absorbed in the first 1/3 of the book but it dragged on big time. Could have cut at least 300 pages out give it more of an impact. Theres no way these kids are 11 years old and the infamous drain scene is beyond disgusting and the most vile material I have ever read in a novel that serves no purpose to the story at all. How “IT” was resolved was dull and anti-climactic. That being said, I enjoyed the originality of the story and the characters.
Wanted to love this so much more than I did, but doesn’t deserve the high acclaim it receives.

Stephen King delivered. Unique story, great setting and the ending was good for once. Watered down christianity was a theme throughout the book that worked well with the story. The pace was good and I was engaged throughout the whole book.
This is my favourite SK book to date!

Unique. The added supernatural elements transcend the story beyond the common prison-themed books. First Stephen King book I’ve read, and what a book to start with…..

Expected something more intense, the horror scenes had minimal effect. Started slow, but became more enjoyable as the story progressed.

What I thought was going to be a murder/mystery/thriller novel turned out to be a supernatural story with some other plot lines working around it. A bit slow at times and felt the story could have been condensed. The writing was good and I liked how the plot lines all tied together. Not a huge fan of the supernatural element in this book, too far fetched to take it seriously.

Short and sweet. Adds nothing to the Salem’s Lot plot, apart from the fact that the vampires are still alive. Questionable, low IQ choices are made for the sake of the story….

This was what I was expecting Salem’s Lot to be like. The intensity and darkness was on point. If King infused this background and atmosphere into Salem’s Lot, it would have been wild ride.

Had a 4 month break after reading Lord of Chaos (nearly gave up on the series) before tacking this bad boi. Honestly enjoyed it better, but it still suffered from a slow pace where seemingly not much was achieved in a book 650 pages long.
Im missing the sense of adventure that the first few books contained (particularly the Great Hunt) and am left bored at times which became evident during the Fires of Heaven.
Theres so many names of different Aes Sedai and Aiel that it makes it hard to follow and remember who is who which is disappointing. Felt the book was meandering for 600 pages and then suddenly wrapped up a major plot line in the 20 odd pages of the last chapter which seemed rushed.
Expectations are very low heading into the Path of Daggers which should help me enjoy it more….

Just boring. Love this series, but theres just so much filler that is not interesting at all. Matt, one of the most interesting characters is completely MIA. Too many names and characters all over the place. Skim read a majority of the book so that I could be done with it. Elayne, Egwene, Nynaeve, the female aiel, the aes sedai and the ship people are batshit boring mannnnnnnn 💣🔫

American version of war and peace….?
Possibly my first “romance/drama” novel and it was solid. The ending is what made the book for me. Would have like more interaction between Scarlett and Rhet, who were great main characters.
The way Mitchell presented the African-American dialogue was annoying and frustrating. It either works or it doesn’t.
Was not interested in the war or the events that led to or were a result of it.
Worthy of being deemed a classic novel.

Loved the Tolkein nostalgia! This book rekindled a fire within me to return back to reading after a 10 year break. Loved the sense of adventure and am forever grateful to the client who gave me this book against my wishes.

Raskolnikov is an all time iconic character. Loved the dark atmosphere, felt like I was in the side streets of St Petersburg watching Raskolnikov go about his business. Had me hooked from first to last page.

Perrin shone in this book! Feel like everything peaked together nicely. Didn’t match the sense of adventure I felt during the GOAT the Great Hunt.

Was going into this book expecting it to be the greatest book of all time. Having just read crime and punishment prior to this, I was let down. Great themes are explored, the stand out scene was the Grand Inquisitor, which is mind blowing to unpack. Found the book dragged on towards the end and turned into a bit of a slog to finish.
Still an amazing book that has profound depth and deserves its spot as one of the greatest books of all time.

This book killed a lot of my interest in the series and I considered giving up a third of the way through. POV’s from any of the female characters are boring and the amount of time spent in Salidar was insufferable. Felt like the book was heading no where for a very long time. The ending was overhyped but kept me interested in starting the next book….
