Some of the best science fiction I have read. A little mysticism and myth thrown in as well. Fantastic prose and world building (at this point I could call it universe building).
Throughly enjoyed and am eager to read the next chapter.
2.5 Stars
World buidling was a bit weak. Prose was difficult sometimes as the author swapped he/she for they/them a lot and it made identifying who was thinking difficult. (Don't care which pronouns are used, just picked one for the character and stick with it). Odd capitalization mid sentence as well that just bothered me.
Not even background on the characters...not even to make me care about them, to buy in.
Premise had potential...but ultimately it was an average book at best. I doubt I will continue the series.
2.25 Stars.
King Arthur and his knights in the modern era? Sounds intrigueing....too bad we never really got to see it. Too much time spent lecturing on climate change, most of the knights don't even appear, and Arthur, Lancelot, and Merlin are unrecognizable (Arthur as a Trump wannabe? Make Britain Great Again? Seriously?) Would be nice if heroes could just be heroes—they don't have to be perfect, but there is no need to make them complete jerks, for lack of a better word, either. Main protaginist is just an eco terrorist and has no real redeemin qualities other than she likes trees.
This was almost a DNF for me....and I cannot remember the last book I DNF. 2.25 Stars for the snappy dialogue and potential the premise had...too bad the lecturing, politics, and bad charcterizations of a classic King and his Knights got in the way.
A fantanstic noir set in old Hollywood. A bit of mystery, with some thrills, chills and a bit of horror mixed in. Fantastic characters and prose that makes you feel like you are in a 1940's film noir. Cannot say too much about the plot without giving away too much, just to say that if you like Noir, mysterys, and well written period pieces, this novel would be for you.
5 Stars. Might be the best mystery I have read in 2023.
