Build Your Best Writing Life: Essential Strategies for Personal Writing Success is an altogether different and refreshing kind of writer's craft book. It focuses on helping the writer create their own process through personal exploration to develop the ideal writing life that works on an individual basis. In addition to the introspective prompts and exercises, Kristen offers practical advice about the business of writing, from choosing a publishing path to building an author platform and marketing. Writers of all sorts will benefit from the guidance provided and gleaned from Kristen's own experience. I know I certainly will put this guidebook to good use.

A satisfying ending to the series...most enjoyable!
It did feel a bit rushed in the middle though. I was expecting, and hoping for, a more epic battle between Jude and Maddoc and maybe some higher stakes with the whole Cardan as serpent thing. I loved that whole concept, but it seemed to be a bit too easily resolved.
Overall, really love this world and characters Holly Black has created.

I really wanted to love this book as much as I did the first in the series. And I did love so many things about it, but Enne...I just couldn't believe in our protagonist. It was too far a leap to get her to ruthless gang lord in such a short time. I wanted her to struggle more with what happened at the Shadow Game, her conflicting feelings for Levi, etc. I loved Jac (my fave ... he's coming back to life somehow, right? Right?) and Levi and later the introduction of Sophia and the evilness of Vianca, but Enne was just too shallow which sadly distracted me from all the other wonderful elements of this book.
I will say, the ending was a fantastic hook that promised good things to come. I'm going to hold out hope that Enne develops some depth in the meantime...and also that Jac finds his way back somehow (hidden talent?)
You know, there was actually a point about midway through this book where I thought “Hmm, this isn't so bad. Maybe Jay isn't going to stomp all over my heart this time?”
What a fool.
All he did was save all the heartbreak and bewilderment for the last few pages.
Well done, Mr. K. Well done.
Of course I loved it.
Just about had me for one terrible gorydamn minute, you sneaky wolf!
The bait and switch near the end was so convincing that there was random swearing directed at the poor innocent book. This series has me so invested in the characters, flawed as they are, that I will believe anything, apparently. And that's not a criticism.
I read this bad boy in a day and a half...could not put it down. The only mild complaint I have are about the scenes “on the ice.” I get the importance of what those scenes set up but they do slow down the pace just a bit.
Iron Gold awaits but I think my heart needs a break. Bring on the puppy videos!
Well done, Pierce Brown. Well done.

Oh, my heart!
I feel like I've just been disgorged from a spitTube.
Roque...what the heck? What happened that made you turn? For all Roque's betrayal, Sevro is the epitome of loyalty. I think he's officially my fave. And he and his Howlers take the prize for Best Entrance Ever when they arrive to liberate Darrow from the Sovereign.
“Sevro has come, and he's brought friends.” Best. Entrance. Ever.
The action in the second book is really ramped up and so fast paced, at times it toes the line of being too much, but yet one cannot stop reading. I have to know what's going to happen next. Thankfully though, Darrow slowed down just long enough to open his heart to Mustang. Here's hoping she doesn't stomp all over it now that she knows the truth.
I'm committed to keep soldiering on so I can catch up to Dark Age in the next week, but man ... you're killin me, Pierce Brown!
