I liked the book from the story perspective. Well told, from many different perspectives, with influence from the proper people in the proper places. Overall I enjoyed it, and just when I thought I had things figured out, I didn't. So, it kept me engaged through the book. The ending was rather anti-climactic though. There needed to be more. Either more story, or more drama, or more consequences. That's why this got a 3 star instead of a 4 star, in my opinion.
Spoilers: Don't read beyond if you don't want things potentially given away.
I did have a few issues with the way certain things were addressed.
If Asher were not white, he wouldn't have walked away from the initial crime scene. (They did kind of address this in a conversation with Jordan's wife, not recalling her name, but it was just glanced upon.)Were there no chaperones at their high school dance?! WTF?
Minimal parts of the storyline for the fathers of both Asher and Lily.Maya - WTH??? There needs to be more here!! She just walks? Nothing??
Fun, easy read. If you're looking for something quick and lighter to get through a short time, this will be the perfect diversion. A little quirky, somewhat predictable, far-fetched in places... But I'd recommend it.
Difficult for me to get into. The book was, to me, more about the writing and language than it was about the characters or the story. I almost wanted to quit on it, but I'm one of those people that can't put down a book once I've picked it up. I wish I could get past that. I've been reading a lot of modern fiction, so perhaps I just wasn't ready for it. I'll give it another listen before returning it to the library.
Completed, but I need to get the print version, or Kindle version, to see the recipes and things of that nature in the last pages.
Captivating! Twists I wouldn't have guess. Just when I thought I guessed, I didn't! Can't say anything else without giving things away!
Very good book. Took some turns that I wasn't expecting. A tech/gamer book with a good back story to it. I really enjoyed this one.
My book club chose Demon Copperhead, which I heard was based on David Copperfield. As a result, I read this book first, to make the comparison. So glad that I did. I had a greater understanding of where the new DC got its “roots”.
Not the book I was expecting, but still a pretty good book nonetheless. Great resource to direct people to if needed in a leadership position.
Great book! I listened to it, instead of reading, and Dolly read the part for one of the characters. Had my attention from “go”, and I listened to the whole book in a day. Well developed characters and a good story line. I haven't read a James Patterson novel in many years, but they're still as engaging and enjoyable as ever. I'm glad for this one including Dolly to suck me back in.
The Matrix meets Ready Player One meets Quantum Leap (more a 3.5 than a 3)
Not sure what I was expecting from this book (I read nothing about it ahead of time), but this wasn't it. Although unexpected, it was a good read. I enjoyed the characters and build-up. The end seemed a bit “hurry up and shut the door”. I don't know how she could have wrapped it up better though. It just felt a little bit rushed.
Overall though, I enjoyed the book.
WHAT?!? It's done!!! I thought it was the end of the series... Now I have to wait for Book 10!! Grrr!!!
I LOVE this book!! I love the author and how she tells her stories and shares her insights and information. I love the TSA's (Tab's Service Announcements). I love her guidance in navigating the world and how we interact with it. It's a book I will read again because I'm sure there are nuggets that I missed, and will pick up on as I reread it.
Good book, with some good points. It ended up being a kind of a religious book. I'm more spiritual than religious... but it wasn't enough to put me off of reading it. It might with some others. Great messages in the book though.
Interesting book. Held my attention. But where is the story?? This is like the beginning of 10 different stories, and none of them fleshed out. Ending was like... it just ended!!
Excellent book! First I've “read” from Stacey Abrams. I will be reading or listening to more of her stories. Stacey did a great job of setting the scene and slowly letting the story unravel. I won't say anything to give anything away, but if you enjoy political adventures or murder mystery, this would be one that deserves a place on your shelf! Expertly narrated by Adenrele Ojo. She did a great job of distinguishing between the different characters and even managed Indian and Middle Eastern accents.
Such a difficult but necessary read. I think that when everyone is old enough, they should read this book. We think we know about our country's evil path with slavery, but we don't truly. Even after reading this book I know there are atrocities that I couldn't even imagine. This novel takes us back... back to when the people who were enslaved were just living... truly living their best lives. These histories are difficult to digest, but they must be told. We must be better as people.
OMG this book. I listened to the audio version instead of reading the pages of this book. It was reminiscent of the movie Clueless... And that was exactly how I felt listening to this. To the contrived language, tone and accent (it literally conjured images of Cher saying, “as if”), to the extreme scenarios these two young ladies put themselves in. I just didn't get it.
I almost DNF'd it. But I haven't done that yet since tracking... so I stuck with it. As if!
An excellent book that I think everyone should read. It opened my eyes to things and situations that I had vague knowledge of, but it wiped away the blur and made things crystal clear. I knew our history had terrible secrets, I just didn't know how terrible. And didn't know how that history affected the way that things are today. I was going to say “we've come a long way”, but truly, we haven't. There is so much work yet to be done! Again, it's a book that I think everyone should read.
I really enjoyed this book. The continuing saga of Feyre and her mate Rhysand, but I was more invested in her sisters' storylines. Nesta... and her coming into her own. Elaine, stepping out of her quietude and taking on more of a role. Clearly, Maas left openings for another book, if she chooses. I would relish another volume in the series.
