Christopher Hitchens put together this collection of essays when he knew he was terminally ill. Very British and erudite but about three-quarters of them are shot through with Hitchen's obsessive hatred of religion.
Well written slice of history, although you can watch the hour she did on C-Span and get the whole book. Her first book, River of Doubt, was excellent.
Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids: Why Being a Great Parent Is Less Work and More Fun Than You Think
This really should have been a long paper because by the end of the book, I felt that the author had said the same thing about three times. Read the first third or the Chats at the end and you're good. Some startling information though.
Standard British police procedural, first in a series. OK, a little on the amateurish side. Lotso f profanity.
Well written book that makes the case for Open Science. Best part of the book are the fascinating examples - Galaxy Zoo, Foldit, arXiv.
A second-rate Reacher. Barr is a much cruder and therefore less interesting character than Reacher, but it's the same kind of book.
The best book I've ever read on spherical trigonometry (actually, the only book!). Diagrams were a little hard to follow but that may be due to the nature of the subject.
A prominent mystery writer's take on mysteries. She really doesn't like Agatha Christie.
Part Romance, part mystery. Maybe this is standard practice for Romance, but the writing was somewhat overwrought.
This is a strange book; at times brilliant, opaque, scattershot, angry, irrelevant, unclear. But interesting a lot of the time.
The writing in Conan Doyle's voice is remarkable although a little wordy. The problems are twofold: the mysteries aren't that intriguing and there's way too much bromance.
Murray puts forth two truths that must be confronted in American life. The book could have been a little more polished, but still very important.
This book reminds me of a computer Adventure game. You talk to one person who gives you a clue about a second person; talk to the second person who gives you a key to a locker. In the locker you find...
Well, you get the idea.
Orthodox perspectives on “Torah from Heaven”. The best essays are by Hazony, Aster and Unterman.
