I didn't want this book to end. I've enjoyed it immensely. It's funny, witty, and original. A big social and human criticism written in an accessible and youthful way, with a super sarcastic and charismatic main character that I couldn't avoid but adore.
An easy read, no complicated battles or too detailed descriptions, just emotions and consequences.
Loved it, really. So entertaining.
Fun, feel good book. The plot isn't mindblowing, and you could see what was going to happen a mile away, but it's not a book that pretends otherwise. Full of adventures, with a charismatic and fun protagonist and interesting characters. A forbidden romance with all the good cliches we all secretly enjoy.
In resume, really enjoyed it. Recommended to anyone who wants to read something uncomplicated but fun, adventurous and romantic. I will definitely re-read it.
Some things were good, some things were devastatingly bad, some things were ‘meh'. I expected worst, but I also expected much more. It is Harry Potter after all. Not imprescindible, almost avoidable. I'm quite contradicted because I half hated it and half liked some of it. I give it 2 stars for Scorpius only. And I will not consider this HP canon at all.
It's difficult to rate this book. On one side, the writing os beautiful. It is clear the author loves classical music from all the details and the references, and since I love it too I really enjoyed the musical artistry in the words.
The story is good too, but I am again biased since it drinks from probably my favourite movie ever.
Characters are good, but not enough to make me fall for them completely? Still, good and interesting. A little repetitive at times but nothing horrible.
The love scenes are ridiculous, I must say. I had to re-read them to even understand they were happening. Let's not be that afraid of calling things by their names, please. If was really confusing.
So, I enjoyed it in general, but I disliked the ending A LOT. And I know there is a second book but I expected something different and it was quite underwhelming. I will read the sequel, though.
Disgusting, gut-wrenching, painful and at the same time hilarious and thoughtful. This is a whole new experience per se, never felt so many contrasting things from a book. The way Welsh writes takes you right into the middle of it all and shakes you to the core. I am still shocked by the ending. Really shocked. Extremely recommended, though be careful: not for the faint hearted, REALLY. It's vicious and disgusting and painful. As the book itself says: suitable only for persons of strong constitution. Really, follow that advice. It's not an exaggeration.
This is, without any doubt, one of the worst things I've ever read. And I've read fics written by obnoxious 12 year olds... I cannot even try to define what was wrong with it, since it was mostly everything. Plot wise it could have been ok, nice idea, but oh the development of it. It made no sense, it was spread too long at times, rushed at others, going on an endless loop of repeating the same sentences again and again. I am not exaggerating, there were sentences, descriptions mostly, that I could recite from heart by the end of the book. Yes, we get Philippe hates houses; Yes, we get Asmodeus smells like oranges and bergamot, etc.
None of the characters were likeable and none of their motives to do things made sense. I still don't understand the necessity of Madeleine in this story. Or, even, Philippe. OR, even, Morningstar, and he was the most likeable character, even if he's not even in the story. And they act so contradictory! I'm a prisoner, but I leave, but I come back, but I leave again, buuuuut then I will come back once more, hating every choice I make and having not even a good reason for why I act like this.
Mental.
I finished it because I try to never abandon a book, but you cannot imagine how hard and infuriating reading this was. The ammount of times I exclaimed ‘ffs' was too high.
Conclusion: No. Never again.
This book was a weird experience from beginning to end. Story wise... well, it doesn't really have a great story. It's actually pretty simple and easy and fast solved so, really, it's not a book about the plot, but about its world. Wow. So disturbing, dark and gore. I was fascinated by it.
So, I don't know how I feel and I don't know if I would recommend it, but it was a good read for me.
Weird. Different. Probably not a story for everyone? I have the feeling nothing really happens in this book but, at the same time, a lot does. And it's beautiful, and secret. I loved it.
Fun, easy and feel good book. It left me with a smile, so I am thankful I grabbed it to read.
It's fascinating the philosophy of this book. The morality of everything, how good and evil aren't that well defined, how everything is grey, and the monsters are not all the time those we would imagine. I'm really enjoying this series!
The idea, the universe of this book is amazing. I love horror stories and I love ones like this, where said horror is unseen, without a name or a face. The pacing and the structure of the book doesn't let you get bored at all, always wanting to know what happens next or what happened before. That said, I didn't totally enjoy this book. Lot of things where unsatisfying, and some where too fictional. I know this is fiction, but in a story where things are supposed to happen in our real world and present time, I need some logic. Plus I felt the ending was lacking, but then again, I suppose it couldn't end any other way.
Still, entertaining and easy to read. All in all, quite good.
jfc no. just no. ooc everywhere, an ending that's all deus ex machina and an eye for an eye in the most stupid of ways. then nothing, no reward, no nothing. this book was terrible. the first is horrible and disgusting, and this one is full of clichés and terrible plotting. only the second is good but damn, not worth to go through rape and abuse for a story of nothing. keep away from it. I feel cheated.
beautifilly written, as if reading an extremelly detailed paint full of dark colours and complicated figures. I've loved every page of this book, so originally written, with such believable characters. It's a painful book, but it's hauntingly gorgeous. I'm so glad I decided to read it.
Not a bad book, at all. Back to what Lynn best does, dragorgos and dyrmagnos and dark magic. I give it only 3 stars though because the book is really centered on Klia, Thero and Mika and, as much as I like their characters, I'm here for Seregil and Alec. I missed them during a big part of the book, and that is a big no for me.
Still, good book, great entertainment. I hope she does write more about them in the future, because the nightrunners have been with me for many many years, and it's sad to say goodbye.
Can't decide if I should give it 3 or 4 stars.
It was pretty entertaining, honestly. Sure, it read more like a thriller than horror to me? I mean, I found absolutely nothing scary about this book. But it was fun to follow their struggle. Well, it was fun after a few chapters. The beginning was kind of hard to swallow.
Jude, the main character, pissed the hell out of me. I was almost rooting for the ghost to get him.
Also, dogs suffering. That's a huge, MASSIVE NO for me.
So yes, entertaining but with a lot of buts. I'll leave it at 3 stars.
I don't know. It felt short? As in, nothing really advanced? I really don't know what to feel. after a time I knoe what to feel. Disgust. Why is this trilogy so well loved? I cannot understand it.
WELL. Now I understand the hype with these books!! All the horrors of the first one aren't seen on this, thing I'm really grateful for. The character development is the best thing of this book, I loved both the main protagonists. The plot keeps you glued to its pages and it's well written and planned. Everything has a reason, a purpose, a path.
Really enjoyed this second book. I'll forget the first one exists.
There is some plot in the last 15% of the book, surprisingly, but it keeps being a book where things happen because everyone acts stupidly. Go read fanfics on ao3, there are waaaay better things than this.
Seems it wasn't a book for me. Not bad at all but, I don't know. I found it quite plain? A pity. I was really looking forward to this one.
After Shadow's return and White road, this was a breath of fresh air. I really liked it! Back to political intrigue and the war between nations. I don't give it 5 stars because the end... well. I wasn't 100% pleased. But still!! Good book, it's nice to be back to what I really liked about this series.
