3.5 stars
If I'd read this as a standalone, it would've been a solid 4-star read. It's still a good book—but compared to the earlier entries in the series, it lacks some of the magic that made the first two feel so special.
4.75 stars
The only reason this isn't a solid 5 stars is because of the metafiction, which while great, felt like a bit much at times.

4.5 stars
I won't attempt to say what smarter people and more eloquent writers already have. Instead, I'll simply say this book was very good, but I didn't exactly enjoy reading it. That's the only thing keeping it from being a full 5 stars.
