Never judge a book by its cover.
This is one time I wished I listened to the phrase as the covers for this series are beautiful. Unfortunately, the interior art is a far cry from the mood and quality promised by the exterior art. Plus, the writing just isn't good. As a lover of both vampire fiction and comic books, this should have been an easy win. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is because the mythos were interesting, but that a good story does not make. Bummer.
3, maybe 3.5, stars. I found myself starting to lose some interest about halfway through and I honestly think that is because everything just took so damn long. This book could have been significantly shorter and I'd have probably liked it more. Also, it wasn't as dark as I was expecting and instead a little more wholesome than I wanted. That said, I did love the main cast of characters.
Probably my least favorite in the series. Not because it's bad, but because it centers on a character I never really connected with, and this story didn't do much to change that. The nice thing about this series, though, is that you can read a book that doesn't quite hit and immediately follow it up with one you absolutely love.
Unfortunately, I've now caught up to the series and will have to wait until the next release to see if I do, in fact, follow it up with a winnner.
