Short and cute! I liked both main characters, Allie and Eric, as well as the supporting cast (Allie's sister and brother-in-law, and especially Daisy and Bo).
This was the first story I've read by this author, but now I want to read more. :)
Disclaimer: I have not read the original, so the niggly points I had with this book may very well be due to this being a retelling.
The book is very well written, and I really enjoyed the banter and the friendship developing between the girls. But - as other reviewers have stated before - Anne was not always an easy MC to like, and neither was Christopher. They both had their moments, though, so in the end I did find myself rooting for them.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and I didn't know what to expect.
It was a fun and easy read, I really liked the format with the occasional blog posts and text chats. Emma was a fun heroine, though some of her shenanigans truly made me cringe... :-s
I'm not sure I want to read the second book in the series, since this is Logan's story (seriously?!), but the third is already on my TBR.
I really enjoyed this second book in the series!
This part of the story is giving me hope for Isaac - and not only because I don't have to feel bad for Aspen anymore. Could it be that he's developing something that looks suspiciously like... gasp... tolerance? While I'm not confident that he'll eventually grow a spine and make his own decisions (yet), I can definitely see the possibility now.
To be honest, I am a bit bummed about how Destiny is treating Preston. He seems like a good guy, and I had been rooting for him in book 1. I think the way Destiny uses him - and can't make up her mind about the two boys - is kind of unfair (though absolutely realistic).
Looking forward to reading the next part of the saga! :)
It's been a while since I read “a Bria book”, but I got immediately sucked in again with all the little details I love about her writing.
Despite all their quirks, the characters feel real, they mean well, but they still mess up, and they are all just so darn likeable I couldn't help but root for them from page one.
Lyra is a funny (and formidable) heroine, and Spence might start out as the master of misconceptions, but he manages to get his head (and heart) sorted out - with a little help of Lyra's awesome gang of friends.
There is just enough drama to provide tension, but it's not over the top. The story made me smile and laugh and swoon and now I'm officially in love with Starlight Harbor and its charming and quirky inhabitants.
I'd like to put on record that I'd pretty-please-with-buttercream-and-chocolate-sprinkles-on-top like to preorder the whole series right now. I want to read ALL the stories! Vivian and Cam and Skye and Noah and Jamie and all the folks I haven't even met yet... <3
Netter Urlaubskrimi mit unterhaltsamen Charakteren (Apollinaire!), bei dem durchaus ein bisschen Heimweh nach der Provence aufkommt.
What a great finale to this story arc! I particularly enjoyed reconnecting with our favorite curmudgeon of a wizard. :)
I'm really enjoying this story arc - Dark Esper turns out to be a formidable antagonist!
Susannah Nix creates characters that I can relate to (some more easily than others, granted), and her heroines are smart, strong, and witty, so I found it easy to root for these ladies.
I appreciate that the characters (including the heroes) are not perfect, they all have their quirks and hang-ups.
And I especially love the easy banter and the strong friendships. More, please!
Wow! This story may seem to start like a typical sweet YA romance novella, but - on top of swoon-worthy “macking-on” :) - tackles some serious topics and packs quite the emotional punch!
Although my heart was breaking for Ray and her family, I was happy with how the story turned out in the end.
The tagline isn't wrong, you know... :)
For the Love of Gnomes
Super cute and funny friends-to-more story. I would have liked to have accompanied Noah and Tessa on the previous gnome capers, too. It sounds like they had quite the adventure... :)
Bombe Alaska
Kahled and Hannah seem to be a good match in this sweet story - and they're bonding over books, to boot.
The Onyx Rose
Eve and Finn gave me ALL the feels in this meet-cute story. Gah! <3
All Charged Up
It was fun following “nerd in hunk's clothing” Liam on his quest to figure out the mysterious happenings at the museum - and seeing him finally getting closer to his secret crush / fellow geek Avery.
I had been looking forward to a new Kat Colmer book for a while, and “Remind Me Why I'm Here” did not disappoint!
Maya and Gus are liekable and relatable main characters I couldn't help but root for. And while this YA romance contains a fair amount of drama and really knows how to tug at those ole heartstrings (I might have cried a time or two...), it also has equally plenty funny moments. Especially the prank war involving Australian wildlife is a hoot to read about (though not something I'd like to experience IRL, tbh)!
I really enjoy Annabelle Costa's writing, her snarky humor, and especially her characters who are far from your stereotypical cookie-cutter heroes and heroines. They are human, they are not perfect, they are occasionally messed up - and, of course, messing things up.
John and Kirby were a great match, and I couldn't help rooting for them getting together, even though John occasionally behaved like a first class jerk, and Kirby took her sweet time to get her feelings sorted out (there's that messy realism again, eh?).
And that bubblegum cupcake scene? ALL THE FEELS. le sigh
This book is now another favorite in the series, along with Lena's story. I truly enjoyed getting to know Evie and watching her fall in love with Holiday Junction, its inhabitants, and - of course - Liam.
And I have to confess that it's pretty simiar for me: the more I read about HJ, the more I fall in love with this series.
Cute YA retelling reminding me of “She's The Man”
Since this series is ALL about the retelling of classics, the story itself is nothing new. And while this adaptation does remind me of the above-mentioned movie version, Jessica Bucher's writing keeps the story fresh, and I found myself rooting for Vi and Owen, but especially for Lily.
All in all, a fun start to this new multi-author series, and I want to read more about Shelfbrooke, but also more stories by Jessica Bucher.
This fun and lighthearted mistaken-identity story actually makes me want to read more in the series, even though historical romance / Regency is not my natural reading habitat.
But I simply adore Maggie Dallen's writing and I had so much fun with these characters and their banter!
Disclaimer: I'm not a big fan of Billionaire stories. BUT I am a big fan of Laurie Baxter's writing.
It turns out, thankfully, that one of the protagonists being a billionaire has not all that much to do with the storyline. If he didn't happen to be a rather newly-minted, self-made rich guy, Alec would probably fall into the “kind-hearted, hot nerd” category of romance heroes - which incidentally is one of my favorites. ;)
Ivy is overthinking so much, she's not only second-guessing but third- and fourth-guessing every little detail. (Been there, done that. Sans billionaire, though.)
All in all, it's an quick, entertaining read with some funny and some swoony moments.
Fabulous finale to a fun series!
Even though I'm a bit behind on the series, the story still works okay. Important points from the backstory are explained, so even if you are like me and haven't read all the other books yet, you'll still have fun with the shenanigans around Charlotte, Ham, and the rest of the NIIA gang.
Bonus points for the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. :)
Favorite quote: “I have a bad feeling about this.” :D
Wonderful feel-good Christmas rom-com!
This latest book in the Cranberry Hill Inn series has all the ingredients I love in a romance:
* characters I can fall in love with
* witty banter
* some funny moments
* truly swoony moments
* beautiful writing
And, on top of all of that, there is Scooter, who totally stole my heart and who needs her own story, eventually. (Pretty please with snowflakes und Christmas magic on top?)
Tons of trouble in tomboy-paradise!
What is supposed to be a fun Christmas reunion of friends starts out pretty doom-y and gloom-y: Casey and Lucas are on the verge of breaking up, Alex is not sure she wants to go through with marrying Grant, and Nicole misses Ian, who is supposed to visit his mom in Puerto Rico.
And Chelsea, Marissa's roommate and new to the lineup, is just recovering from a breakup - but soon sets her sights on Chris, who is trying to distract his sister from worrying about Ian.
And then there's Marissa and Archer, who are working hard on fixing their friends' messes by means of mistletoe and karaoke.
This was a super-fun (and clean) YA romance with some time travel and a mystery thrown into the mix. I can imagine that even though the main characters are teenagers, it's probably even funnier when you “were there” in the '90s... :D
I loved the cast of characters, especially Oakley and Hudson, but also their friends and family (Stacey! Sherm!).
While Hard Hitter didn't evoke the over-the-top swoons like Overnight Sensation and Brooklynaire, it still has all the things I love so much about Sarina Bowen's stories:
The characters feel real, their story is equally funny, sexy, and heart-wrenching, and the side-plot with Ari's ex adds some suspense, too.
Doulie and Ari are easy to root for, and I enjoy following their developing relationship.
But sometimes - as in all of Sarina's books I've read so far - the supporting cast (in this case the hockey team and their posse) absolutely steal the show, and I also found myself crossing all available digits on the Bruiser's way to the play-offs...
Looking forward to reading more in the series!
I'd wanted to read Sammi's story pretty much since meeting her in Courtside Crush.
I like it when the head cheerleader gets to be more than the stereotypical queen bee, and I'll admit that her story didn't quite turn out as I expected.
Jeremiah seemed a bit too good to be true, but hey - I'm all for good-guy heroes, so I'm not really complaining.
I've enjoyed all three books in the series so far, and I'm looking forward to reading the next.
This book wasn't easy to rate or review for me.
The story touches on some serious issues, and the way Abi deals with her share of problems might not always be relatable for me.
That being said, this is still a Kelsie Stelting book which means it's well written, I generally like the main characters - and the supporting cast has some really great moments!
I adore Abi's grandma, and I'm glad Abi finds her posse who stick with her through thick and thin (ha!).
Cute rendition of the fake fiancé trope!
I had a lot of fun with Ben(ji) and Abby (what's not to love about those two?), and especially their circle of friends and Abby's quirky family.
I especially liked how the close-knit world of the tennis circuit clashed with the close-knit world of small-town life, and how Abby and Ben figure out how to make it work.
I am definitely looking forward to reading more books in this series!
