I read this book in 2 days. If you're in the mood for a book to just feel good about, this is that book.
There are some parts that are a bit cliche which is why I gave it three instead of more stars.
This book started off really cool with Tara being a professional mermaid and all. I also thought it was cool that while she was turning into one she didn't actually want to, but then as soon as she became one it became a little hokey and cliche. All in all I enjoyed it but it was a little hokey.
A fast-paced origin story of Captain James Hook with a dark twist on the beloved classic character of Peter Pan. A must read for Once Upon a Time fans and lovers of backstories.
I recommend this book for people who like dark fantasy with a little bit of horror mixed in. Great read! Real page turner!
Funny and witty with a sense of adventure and just the right amount of magic! I love the movie references hidden within! Great read!
I didn't want to put it down. The past and present blend in a smooth transition and it's easy to get swept on board the Temptation.
This book is not in my genre at all. I'm more into fantasy than historical fiction. I've never liked books or movies about war, but when I saw it was a tale of two sisters through the war, I knew I had to try it. This book was empowering and heartbreaking all at once. I'm so glad I went out of my comfort zone and picked up this book. I was hooked from the first few pages. It wasn't an easy read and it's not supposed to be. It's provocative and emotional, all the things that a good book. So often we forget how wars affect women and families in general, the ones left behind. I had no idea the trials and courage that women during World War 2 endured before I read this book, and I am so thankful for the knowledge. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
A clever, funny and witty supernatural crime thriller. Ghosts, murder and humor. What's not to love? The premise hooked me immediately and Cordelia's character was endearing yet flawed, human. I could t help but giggle at some of the scenes and dialogue. The camaraderie of Cordelia and Ruby is so great!
I'm excited to read the sequel!!
Thank you NetGalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Overall, I would give this book 3.5 stars. It was great seeing the characters Ruby and Ruan again and getting to learn more about them. Their chemistry is a great part of the series. While I liked this book and found it an enjoyable read, it wasn't a page turner like the first one. It used some devices from the first book that made the first book great but then you already know what it is. I think the clues could have been more easily integrated to help the reader along.
I want to give it 4.5 stars but there are no half options. It was a really quick read and kept my interest throughout. There were just some moments that were a bit too cheesy for me. Also, I felt the ending was pretty abrupt. When I turned the page I was expecting another chapter and not the acknowledgements page.
Overall a very good book and I'm glad I finally read it.
I was hooked from the very beginning! I love that they mixed magic with history and I'm a sucker for Arthurian anything.
Though it was darker than other books I have read of hers, it lent a sense of realism to the story.
This is the book fantasy lovers have been waiting for. If they've ever felt like their lives should be in the pages of a book. Adds a new dimension to the fiction genre. Page turner. Really great read!
I've been wanting to read this book for a while. The wit was not disappointing. If you love fairytale retellings and don't mind things getting a little dark, this is the book for you.
Having read this after COVID, I have a deeper understanding of the themes and emotions the characters endure.
