Not news to me, but very good idea, well explained, with examples.

Lackey was good, 2nd story was okay, couldn't finish the 3rd.

After reading The Phoenix Guards, I laughed a lot harder at Iron Mask than I otherwise would have.

Okay, I knew that this wasn't a happy story, but I hadn't realized it was quite so depressing. I also hadn't realized just how much of the story falls under “what happened AFTER the climax.”

Has some of the same feel as The Demon's Lexicon, but without DL's other strong points.

Just like the rest of the series, which is a compliment. I loved the hostile witness scene. The deleted scenes (which are a new touch) manage to mock not only a great many other writers, but this writer as well.

2.5 stars, mostly for icky action/war scenes and mind manipulation.

I cackled like a maniac throughout this book. Part of it was really that funny and part of it was just that unbelievable (but true). It does cover some adult subjects, though, so I'd preview before turning teens loose on it.

3.5 stars. Very funny, in an “I'm so glad that didn't happen to ME” sort of way.

Still fascinating writing & characters, but this time it excluded a lot of the warmth & interaction, & included too many things that bothered me (more than either of the previous). I think my children are just going to have to suffer with a lack of closure until they are older.

Does contain war scenes that may not be appropriate for all readers.

Much ickier than it sounded.
