Very touching, but I just don't think that anyone should write a memoir this early in life, there's too much more life she's going to live
Quite a bit not really about Victoria secret in here but very interesting nonetheless, def not like a docudrama more like something you'd see on the history channel but I dig it
Honestly the ending (which was pretty good) didn't make up for the fact that the writing (and rest of the book) sucked
Don't even remember how I got to reading this, probably some list, well I wish I never read it!
Somewhere between a 4-4.75 depending on the beginning or end. I loved Maddie, I loved her relationships with others, I've felt so many of her feelings before. This was beautiful, what an excellent debut. I'm very excited to read more from Jessica George!
I knew reading a book within a book was a mistake.
There's only one word to describe the second half(ish?) of this book as everyone has already said: convoluted.
Like queens gambit but without the drugs and orphanages. I wanted the final chapter to be comprehensive though so :/ also third act breakup boo
More like 2.5 rounded up.
Can't believe everyone was raving about this, it's nothing special.
I just need someone to explain the last like third of the book to me? Maybe I just like was reading too fast, and now upon reading reviews I realize the end was because it's going to be a trilogy but I genuinely am so lost?
I said I should just quit my career path to become an author so someone can write older adults correctly because apparently nobody can
The only good part of this book is chapters 54-66. Unremarkable, definitely threw some antisemitism in there, and none of the characters were likable
I really enjoyed this. I don't think there was truly enough intersectionality + look at this from a feminist lens because I'm sure there were pleanty of women involved in both sides, but you can't win em all. For what this was I thought it was a very interesting listen
I rarely do not finish books but I can't read this. I made it like 12% I can't do it anymore it's so bad
There's no doubt about it Amanda can write, and beautifully. I really wish there weren't so many definitions in there though, like it was every 3 poems and I w as like PLEASE. Also I understand saying where the words are from if you're using them from someone else, but that was also like every 3 poems please I just want no context and to just appreciate your beautiful writing here Amanda. Also Reading that this came out in 2021 not later in 2022 like I thought makes me less annoyed at the abundance of pandemic poems, because there were too many for me even if they were well written I just found myself getting worn down.
Could've been a 4 - so much of the dialogue seemed unnatural and at times like childish writing, and ofc you know I hate a third act breakup. I feel like there was so much more opportunity to develop things and play with the setting in India too which was disappointing. Would love to read more along this line though as it was fun!
2.5 rounded up. This was sooooo good until about the 3/4 mark then it tanked so fast. The ending was absolute trash imo
They really need half stars on goodreads because 4 is too low but it just wasn't quite a 5 for me. Still highly recommend!!!!!!!!!
I would really be happy to live in a Morgan Matson book. Any. So cute and endearing and unpopular opinion(? Based on the few other goodreads reviews) I loved the Teri subplot
