Fantasy/ scifi with really tough worlds, where everything is stacked against the main character?Answer
No YA, pls, I'm too old for this sh... stuff! :) Some examples of what I mean: Baru Cormorant, Book of the New Sun, Broken Earth, Winter Road, Blood Song, Witcher, Xenogenesis, Th1rte3n, Priest of Bones, Left Hand of Darkness.
Why this book?
This one in particular, of all the series, felt like things were utterly hopeless, partially because it takes place so long after the last book (I don't usually like big huge time jumps, but it worked here) I felt the relentlessness was really impactful.
