I expected a lot more going into this book. I wanted revenge, Arthurs story hold from morgaras POV and while this is Morgan's story its more of her life before she turned evil (though love her for it).
You could take the magic from this book and nothing would change. Why is it their in the first place? There was no explanation on the magic either which is fire, but I would have liked to see Morgan learn how to use is on page other than she simply can.
Uther is a large part of the story and yet the conflict between him and Morgan don't appear much. I felt a bit let down at how that part of the story ended.
Here was a few decisions Morgan makes that didn't seem like she would as a character. The love story aspect of the book was dropped and then she agrees to something she's adamant she will never do as Uther says and yet she does. it doesn't mesh with her character.
I found il strange to set the story in England when I expected Wales. Each time London was mentioned it pulled me from the story.
Originally when I heard this book was about moorland I thought it would be like Morgan from the show Merlin. I loved Morgan in the show but in the book we don't see that part of Morgana until the end. That was the only part I loved about this book
Perhaps I am thinking too much about the show as I loved it, and that could be clouding what I expected from this book.
But it was a disappointment from what I expected this book to be especially when I thought it was a standalone when its not.
I was loving this book right up to the ending.
I love the world H M Long creates. The winter seas the magic I felt as if I had been transported there.
I have seen some reviews say there is a romance plot in this and I don't think there is. Maybe for future books but not for this one.
The plot was engaging. I loved the idea and the villan was well fleshed out. However. The ending. it felt rushed and almost too easy for the main characters to defeat said villain. It felt that instead of the characters using their wits to defeat the villan it was written to that point and came across to easy and rigid.
Otherwise I was really enjoying the book! The writing is easy and loved the characters.
I've decided that these books aren't for me
I enjoyed mort more than the others I have read but there is nothing about these books that keep me wanting to read. I can see why people love them but discworld isn't a story I find myself liking. The humor isn't my kind of humor and hind myself bored most of the time and not caring about the characters.
I knew I knew this was going to make me cry.
First lets talk about the ending. What an ending!
There was no other way for it to end and it was bitter sweet and sad and perfect.
The relationships hold this series together. I think of what Joren went from the beginning of this series to the end and it leaves me full of such love for this character who I hated at first. Such a large character arc, and loved every second of Joren story.
Lucky Meas the Gullime ! What they did in this book, the friendship they have with Joren— I cry thinking about it.
This book still surprised me. Even though I knew what the ending was most likely to be, I was still shocked at the betrayal in this book. And RJ Barker managed to get me to feel something for a character I hated in so little time.
A perfect end to a a series for an excellent story. I immediately wanted to read the whole series again.
One of the best books I have read.
Once again I was left crying at work.
The story started off as most refelings do but oh it took a turn for the better.
A feminist retelling of the Witch and the Tsar? Sign me up!
I loved this version of Baba Yaga. Strong in her own way, caring she is everything I look for in a character.
The side characters shine as well. I loved them all, even if I cannot say heir names or spell them. This brings me to my only gripe with this story. Listening to the audiobook it was hard to know who was who at times as tome all the names sounded similar. it didn't take any enjoyment from the story and understood what was going on despite the language barrier.
The ending almost had me in tears. The lead up to the climax and how everything was resolved, but I learned for one character close to Yaga. I thought it would be a bitter sweet ending.
And whatever direction the author chose ( I'm not going to tell you, you'll have to read it yourself to find out) it would have suited the story either way.
An excellent tale that has made me want to reread it again.
I loved this book but i can see why not everyone would like it.
Wels doesn't hold your hand as she takes you through the story of Kai, following The demon Prince from past to present.
The story doesn't start to make sense until about the 50 % mark. This wouldn't be for everyone, but as a massive fan of Gideon the 9th, I knew this book was for me
Kai lept from the page. I loved his relationship with Zedie, how ruthless he can be, but also kind,
The magic system is interesting , hard, but soft with little to No explanation given to the reader.
The worldbuilding is dense and you are expected to go along for the ride or swin. There is hardly any explanation given to the reader via narration, theres no filler no useless scenes. Everthing had a point and a purpose.
The story is eloquanty woven to connect the dots from past to present. Very well done
And bashasa, on how I love him. We don't get to see much of him , but I love his relationship With Kai. If i coukd ask for anything, it would be more stories about them.
A beautiful story, that left me wanting more.
This is not a type of story to consume via audiobook. You'll be left feeling lost and confused where the text leaves you no doubt
This way of storytelling won't be for everyone but I really enjoyed it.
I lover book one, but book two held lot of repetitions of book one that I didn't like
As characters, I love both touraire and Luca but I'm not together sold on them. Here was aloe of back and forth between them was the same as book one.
I had wanted a more in depth into the politics of the world. We saw sone, enough to keep me understanding but I wanted more. I had hoped Luca would have more of a plan to claim her throne but she left me wanting.
The plot was engaging enough, and it was a good story, but Notting amazing.
Part of my feelings could be from the audiobook. I was not too keen on the narrator. She used french acents for a lot ,of the characters that made it hard to know who was speaking.
As always the magic drew me to his story. I'm hoping to see more in book 3
This was such such interesting book, and they nailed the narration. I love how this was told via podcast form, it really fit the story.
I didn't I really like the friend but I was hooked on the story. There were moments that surprised me and moments were I felt fear for the characters
Overall an interesting and good read!
This book had me screaming!
At first the narration took abit of getting used to, but once I got it, I couldn't but it down. The way it was told was something I hadn't experienced before I don't think the word said was used, and yet, I had a clear picture on who was talking
The book is split into large parts. once I got to the midpoint, the book hooked me and struggled to put it down.,
In true game of thrones fashion, this story gets brutal, dark, but the women in this story shine.
I really love, Krishna, Mati, Satyabhama they shone from the page.
But, the prologue ! I was hooked wanting more
I was on the edge of my seat toward the end. One of the best battles I have read.
I cant wait for book two!
If you like first law, game of thrones you should pick this up.
Dark age is a brutal horrific story I have ever read
I did not cry, but there were moments where I stood and stared in horror for what I was reading -
I love these characters, even stupid a Darrow and his stupid Decisions but it broke my heart, and Lyria surprised me. Went from hating her, to liking her in this book.
Virgina was a nice head to be in, seeing behind the brilliance. I may be one of the few who like Lysander
This book made me screen, I KNEW IT while at work - if you've read it you'll know.
A excellent book.
This was a fun read.
It had a dash of humor that made this story for me. I loved seeing the knight blunder around the world, not understanding that the times lave changed and Le can't wave a sword to solve problems. The other knights of the round table while horrible characters were interesting. And Merlin! I love the way the author portrayed him.
The other characters were good people with large hearts and while I don't usually like characters life that it worked here.
A entertaining story. I had so much fun reading.
As with any sanderso book, I loved it. I love how each relationship developed, especially with steris and wax.
And steris. She has to be my fave next to Wayne.
The direction of the story starts to get tense. I'm starting to fear for some of the characters, and a scene towards the end almost had me screaming. But the best moment was between steris and wax. I cried.
Each of the characters were given their moments to shine and grow. Wayne never fails to make the laugh
A thrilling tale I devoured. Each book is better than the last.
A city that can fly! I love it!
I love the world building in this - the magic system is well thought out, I love how they make the city fly, the politics of it all, how non architects and architects react to each other, the secrets that are being with -held.
This was-an entertaining story. We follow two POV., from the wife (Ahilya) and husband (Iravan). it was pleasant to see the differing sides of their story and both sides of their issues with each other.
The main focus of the story is the wife and husband relationships , how they are struggling with what they want, how they talk to each other and it makes the matter worse.
But its all worth it the end.
I loved the conclusion to this story, how the magic system
Expand and their relationship.
I highly recommend this story. I can't wait for book two
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were fleshed out and I could ignore some of the weaker writing.
The prologue was amazing and by far the best in the book.
The biggest strength was the worldbuilding. Well thought, flashed out and downright incredible. Reminds me a little of Brandon Sanderson.
The ending felt a little rushed. I would have loved it more is there was just a bit more of a set up, a fear for the characters and more time to understand why the characters made the decisions they did. it felt more written to achieve one point than the characters making choices that would lead to a certain point,
Still enjoyable, with a few debut author mistakes.
THIS DAMNED BOOK!
I am screaming. It's so damned good.
I inhaled it. The prose is so lyrical and made me want to keep reading. The audiobook hooked me, each character stood out and had so much depth I had no choice but to fall in love. Iris! Roman!
I loved every damned second of this book. The struggle of Iris, Roman's struggles with his father. I want nothing more than to see each of these characters be happy.
And the letters! The romance that built between the two was so beautiful. I was crying.
Then THEN ENDING.
THE ENDING.
I almost cried. I knew something bad was going to happen, but I still hoped that it wouldn't. It was far worse than what I could ever have thought.
All the stars. Perfection.
A story of the empire of the mongols with a tiny slither of fantasy
I'm not a massive historial reader. I like some books and the history but I find the books that stick too close to the history I find are slow meandering and at times boring
This was and wasn't the case
There wasn't much distinctive character differences between the 3 main characters but it didn't stop my enjoyment
Arryan didn't pull punches. This story is brutal.
Oh how I hate Hulagu. So much.
The prose was a bit meh. I found it okay with no real engagement or drive to pull me into the story. However I was determined to stick it out and I'm glad I did
The story picked up around the 60% mark. This isn't to say there wasn't a story or Hook before but the story really stood on its legs by that point. Characters were doing things and I was interested to read more.
I do wish that feeling was with me through the whole book and some of the scenes and character arcs could have been brought forward in the story. Temujin storyline for instance. While the most interesting I would have liked to see more of his arc earlier on.
There was also an issue with the pacing. It jumped a lot, some scenes were rushed and there was little room for character moments. It felt as if the author was trying to cram so much into only so little word count.
I'm glad I read this. The ending struck it for me And as a historical fantasy (the fantasy being very little) it was enjoyable and I was never lost. I know little about this particular history
This has got to be the best sequel I've read since words of radiance.
The characters ! The plot! The world!
I am screaming
I devoured this book and it exceeded my expectations
The characters were off another level. Some were terrifying (looking at you Nayeli) others progressed in a way I didn't like but I know it's going to make for an amazing book three. And Jond. He grew on me until I was rooting for him in this book. His relationship with Sylah is so shattered and yet so deep. I love it.
Don't get me started on Anoor. Making stupid choices but it works for her because she is just such a trusting character.
The world expanded in the most brilliant way. There's more than what I ever thought there would be in this book and I can't wait to see more of it in book three (which I need! Now)
Everything in this book is so thought out from the writing to the world. Sara El-Arifi is becoming one of my favourite authors.
The book that wouldn't burn. One of my most anticipated releases of this year
I love Mark Lawrence books. But this one has to be his weakest.
This isn't a sweeping epic story, but something quieter, focused more on the two main characters. It was lyrical and sweet, and compelling.
The characters were strong and I really liked Livera. The concept of living out in the dust of Sabbers and of course, the library is really interesting.
I loved how he used timelines in this book. Livera and Evar would span many years, and it was nice to see their relationships unfold. But the story was a little long.
The ending really picked up. There were moments where I was surprised, and one plot twist I did not see coming. I need book two after that ending!
The character work in this was slow, but Livera held this together. Evar is a quieter character but still has some deep personalities. His relationship with the library, I loved.
The library itself was a character in and of its own and I found it so interesting! I didn't care too much about the side characters, if you asked me I couldn't name them, but watching Livera explore the library had me on the edge of my seat salivating for more.
This is a good entrance into a series. If it had been cut by 200 pages, I would have loved it more.
I do recommend it. It was a good story.
Anything with a sentient forest and I'm SOLD
I do believe I would have enjoyed this more if I had physically read it, but it was my mood and tired brain that effected my audiobook experience.
That said it was such a good book.
I loved all of the characters even those we are meant to hate. The small character moments were so sweet and loved reading about them. But it is the magic system and the world that sold me on this book. it was so interesting to read about that I kept wanting more.
Also, the sentient forest!
Think trees so tall you can't see the top and still the tree will be taller than you think.
The book itself took some time to get into but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. The ending was well worth the time it took me to get into this book.
R J Barker has a way with words. Highly recommend this book.
I loved this book. A chosen one where someone else full fills the prophecy? Count me in!
And it was for better than it sounds. Tasha. Oh how love her. with only one arm, a I take no shit personality, and one of the best fighters she ruled the page. Pair that with a whiny chosen one and its brilliance.
I was hooked to the story from page one. I did not expect it to take turns it did and loved it.
The worldbuilding is expansive and woven into the tale expertly.
Go pick this up, you won't regret it!
Dragons. DRAG–ONS. There isn't a book about DRAGONS that I won't like. This is no exception.
This book isn't blessed with amazing characters, but it has a pretty good plot.
It was about halfway through this book that I started to feel the pull. The what's going to happen next, the worry for the characters.
Antony Ryan takes his time to set up the world and the magic system. It pays off. I enjoyed both immensely.
Characters.
There's Clay, a simple thief, nothing really extraordinary about him but goes through the most emotionally. The last third of the book really brought Clay to life. Hillmore, I couldn't give two shits about. Lizanne. Oh, Lizanne! She is by far one of my favourite characters, and written by a man to boot. Think of a female James Bond, but BETTER.
I want to pick up book two immediately, but alas I don't own it. yet
