2 Stars
Let me start this off by saying that a few of my GR friends have read this book & absolutely loved it. Which is perfectly fine, we all have our own tastes and opinions. I on the other hand hated this book. Be warned, I will probably seem a bit harsh in this review. This will not be a spoiler free post, so please if you haven't read it...DON'T CONTINUE.
This story was just a hot fucking mess, so let me just get it out of the way and say fuck this book.
This book had the two things that I hate the most.
1) The death of an important/main character.
2) Cheating/Love triangle
Death is such a tricky thing to write. I can absolutely love a book even with the death of a major character, but the story has to be written extremely well.
Look, I tried to like this book but I just couldn't because it's so damn immature and unrealistic. Maybe if my 15 year old self read it, she would have loved it? Idk, she was even more finicky about characters dying. But, even if Chase wouldn't have died, this still would've only been a 3-star read for me & the ONLY reason that it got even 2 stars was because I truly did like both Chase & Brandon.
Anywho, I just wanna forget this damn thing and move on to bigger and better things. So, here's the list of the biggest issues that I had with this book:
1. Harper. I couldn't stand her, she was such a disappointing main character. I can buy into the whole ‘loving 2 different men at once' spiel, but the bitch seriously needed to grow a pair & break up with Brandon before she fucked Chase. Brandon was WAYYYYYY too good for her and she honestly didn't deserve either one of them. You know who she deserved? The kid with the blow-up doll.
2. Chase's family just automatically accepting her as their own and her calling them Mom & Dad? Cringe.
3. Everyone LITERALLY being okay with her cheating on Brandon. Even Brandon's own damn family?! Bullshit.
4. Harper having the audacity to get so fucking upset at Chase when she thought he cheated on her with Trish. This bitch had NO right whatsoever to judge him after what she had done to Brandon. Trish might have done the deed, but Harper is the reason Chase died. #Sorrynotsorry
5. Harper getting back into a relationship with Brandon so soon after Chase's death AND Chase's own damn family pushing her into it! Like, what?! “It's what Chase would have wanted” No the fuck it wasn't. How quickly she just jumped back into it with Brandon really discredited her and Chase's relationship.
6. Carter. Why? The book would have been exactly the same without him. Harper just needed all of these guys fawning over her all the time. UGH.
I could literally write a novella on the issues that I had with this book, but I'll just sum it up here. This was just a cheesefest. The ending was just way too happy, it was worse than a fucking Hallmark movie. I feel that the author wasn't mature or equipped enough to handle writing about death or even loving two men at once. This was the first time & the last time I will be reading anything from this author.
This was my January book club read for work & it's definitely my favorite book club read so far.
This is the story of Frances “Frankie” McGrath, a 21 year old girl who signs up to be a nurse in the Vietnam War. This story is full of love, camaraderie, friendship, heartbreak, and betrayal. The first half of the book is a firsthand look into Frankie's life in Vietnam, while the second half is her trying to fit back into a normal society.
Now, I will be honest, I knew almost nothing about the Vietnam War. I'm only 31 & my parents were VERY young when that War was going on. We learned about it a bit in school.....but not all these gritty details. To say that I was angry & heartbroken reading about how these veterans were treated would be an understatement. I think I spent half of the book mad AF. Frankie was a combat nurse and saw very gory/graphic injuries, assisted with surgeries, & held soldiers' hands as they died. All the while, there were enemy attacks going on very close to them. It was traumatic. So when she comes back from the war, she begins struggling with nightmares, flashbacks, hyper-arousal, trouble concentrating, etc. Which in turn makes her have some self destructive behaviors. In our present day world, we know that she is experiencing PTSD. Back then, that was a new diagnosis that wasn't getting the recognition that it deserved. There was NO help for women. People even told her that women weren't even in Vietnam. The people that did know that she went to Vietnam kept telling her that she needed to forget about it and move on. (Cue steam coming out my ears.) So that's what she tried to do & without the help she so desperately needed, there were some poor choices made.
There was so much more to this book but I can't really go into details without some major spoilers. When it comes down to it, I will absolutely recommend this book. There's definitely a reason why 99.9% of the patrons that read it at work came in and just had to tell us what an amazing book this was!

This was such a cute, fast paced story and I loved every second listening to it!
“A guy told me he loved me tonight.”
Peyton Sanders hopes it's not too late to say it back. Done with dead-end relationships and swiping right, she knows who her heart belongs to. But as she races to tell him how she feels, she's hit by a car and wakes up with amnesia. It gets worse. Peyton has no clue who the three men who show up at her hospital bed are except they each claim to be her boyfriend.
I knew who she would pick early on, but I still enjoyed listening to the story and the ending was perfect. There was no spice in this, and that was OK with me. I've been reading so much dark romance lately that this lighthearted read was exactly what I needed.
Characters:Peyton-I really enjoyed her, she was sweet. Maya (BFF 1)- Ehh. Maya low key got on my nerves, but overall she was a good friend. Robbie (BFF 2)-I loved Robbie & I was rooting for him from the beginning.Tyler (BF 1)- I didn't think he was that bad? I felt like they painted him as a villain and he wasn't.Shawn (BF 2)- Literally no feelings whatsoever. We didn't get to know this character at all.Nash (BF 3)- If it wasn't Robbie, this was who I was rooting for. I wish the author would write a book for him next. I kinda felt like that's what she was alluding to at the end, but she's writing thrillers now so Idk.Debbie- Super sweet & spunky. Definitely one of my favorite characters in this.Hank-Simply the best. I loved everything about him.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn't really know much about it when I dove into it, a lot of people have compared it to the After series by Anna Todd...in which I have to strongly disagree. Travis was a great H, whereas Hardin was a selfish douche who verbally abused his h. Anywho, enough about that series, I have reviews on those if you're curious enough.
This is the story of Travis ‘Maddog' Maddox, who is a tattoo covered ladies man that spends his time beating the hell out of people in an underground college fight ring. Then there's Abby Abernathy, a “good girl” that's starting her first semester of college far away from her hometown. Abby has secrets that she's trying to get away from.
I loved Travis so much, he was damn near perfect. I had a few faults with him but all-in-all he was amazing. Abby on the other hand was a horrible bitch. She's definitely not my least favorite h ever, but she's probably in the top 10. She treated Travis like shit and then wanted to get mad when he tried to move on after they broke up.
I personally couldn't see what was so special about her.
This book could be a bit cheesy at times, but it was also very sweet. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
Woo-hoo! I finished a scary book JUST in time for Halloween!
This was a solid 3 Stars for me. I really liked the first half of the book. The second half was okay, but it really lost its creep factor. The ending seemed like a cheap way out and didn't really make much sense.
Pro's:
-I connected with the characters. They each had an individual personality and were well written.
-There was shock factor and creep factor. (There's this part with a barbie doll that I was seriously like WHAT.THE.FUCK?!)
-I felt that the story line was original. I personally haven't read anything quite like this one before.
-Even though it's close to 400 pages, it was very fast-paced.
-It brought out my emotions & I definitely wasn't expecting it!
Con's:
-Even though it was creepy, it wasn't scary. I like for my horror books to make me uneasy and freak me out.
-The ending confused me. After Julian kills himself, all he has to do is stretch as far as he can and it completely gets rid of this evilness? Yeah...no. Also, they never said what had happened to the grandpa. It felt rushed and just seemed like the author took the easy way out.
-I didn't care for the backstory of the “entity” at all. It was boring to me, and just made me lose interest.
Overall, this wasn't a bad book. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't love it either. I would be willing to check out more books by this author.
