I wasn't sure what to expect since it's a big departure from Omega Force which is how I discovered Joshua, but it was a good read. I enjoyed the story and the characters. None of the characters felt under-developed which was nice. Great departure from his usual stuff.
Great trilogy. I've just started the third installment, but the first two were interesting to say the least.
Great first book. I'll be keeping an eye out for the rest of the series as I go about filling my kindle. The World building was good, though I still got lost a few times on who was who, and such. Bound to happen in sci-fi, especially as big as this universe is.
Overall a good read, though there was a lot of narration to move the story along, where I'd have prefered dialogue or actual action.
Another great tale. Nothing too heavy, but a fun read for sure. This a great sci fi series.
Another great adventure across the galaxy for the crew of Loose Nuts. Love reading these. They're fun, light and entertaining.
Another great entry in this amazing saga. It was a little off putting at the beginning the whole 30 year jump, but I got used to it.
Great military sci fi. I was very pleasantly surprised by the level of detail and world building put into everything. Each new scene was so well built i could see the buildings and that layout of the place.
Yet another great space adventure! The world building as always was great. Fast and fun read!
Practical
As a recovering computer programmer I appreciate the data science approach he takes in explaining Amazon. Definitely reinforced my current thinking on staying with Amazon as my platform.
Scalzi does dialogue excellently! I'm not sure I'll grab the next, this one was good but I didn't finish it super in love with any of the characters, so we'll see.
If you love hard to pronounce names and the word, ‘fuck', you'll love this book.
I actually only read the first 2. By the third I was a little exhausted of the characters. I may come back to it, but for now I'm done.
That said, the first two are a fun read. Very interesting take on the aliens/plague TEOTWAWKI theme. Pretty good pacing and some turns i definitely didn't see coming.
Excellent book. Reading it i kept thinking, this would make a pretty good movie!
Definitely a book I'll re-read.
What an interesting story. Can't wait to read the rest of this series.
Was nice to get out of my comfort zone a bit character wise.
Just wow. Such great story telling. When I read wool it was a great story on it's own, but as the universe it's set in expands, it's... Oh man.
I shoulda heeded the cover copy. “As good as anything since Jurassic Park” or something similar.
True enough. It was a fast read, quite interesting, for sure, but not exciting in the slightest. Buy it used if you have to read it. DEFINITELY don't pay airport book store prices.
My God, what a crappy book. I mean it's a Star Wars novel so it's not like I was expecting Of Mice and Men, but jeez. The characters were ridiculously flat, every single one of them. There's not a character in the book i cared about at the end. There's so little action it's immensely boring in places. The characters we all know barely (and only 3-4 of them) make an appearance in this. It read like “we need to tell a star wars story, but don't have the rights to the names, so you know have fun with that” except they totally do have the rights and totally could have come up with a story that was even kinda good, but they didn't and this book sold like crazy because we're suckers and “STAR WARS!!!” : If it hadn't taken me so long to get to reading it, I would have tried to return it.I started reading and put the book down, it was that bad. i came back to finish it for two reasons;1. so I could honesty review it2. in the hopes it got magically better, it didn'tThere's some foreshadowing for future books (I assume that's the intent), but even that isn't that interesting and when I finally finished, i wasn't at all anxious to read the next part of the story. I honestly couldn't care less about even one of the characters in this story and certainly have no interest in what happens to them next.
I love super hero books, they just tend to be written pretty well and since they always seem to be in the first person, it makes for a fun read. Anyhow, Steelheart despite taking a different spin to the “Superhero Book thing”, is really a fun read. I'm glad there's gonna be more to the reckoner's story.
I'm not a huge Zombie fan. Like couldn't care less about Zombie stuff, the genre is just so played out. BUT. This was a good read, it wasn't over the top zombie and it didn't make it sound like the world is a bunch of idiots who can't escape a shuffling horde.
