It is set in Shakespeare, Arkansas. The main character Lily Bard is a housecleaner and errand person etc. She will clean just about anything you ask her to clean including one client's dog. She has a mysterious background of which you do find out about in the book. She sees someone using her garbage cart to carry something out and goes to investigate and finds the body of the Landlord who also lives in her building. She gets unwanted attention from the police. She does eventually help solve the murder.
Emeranth Greer has come to Shadowvale to find an aunt she recently found out she has. She finds that Shadowvale is a magical town and only lets certain people in of which she is one. She wants to stay and her aunt doesn't want her to get trapped here. She finds out she is a witch from a whole family of witches. Deacon Evermore wants to get out the town especially get his sister out. He makes a deal with Em's aunt to dissuade her from staying. The more Em is in town the more she loves it.
I could pretty much see most of the twists coming but I still enjoyed the world of Shadowvale. It is a great quick read. I will continue the series.
Merit was turned into a vampire against her will now she has to decide if she will stay in the Cadogen House or go rogue or into another house if they would have her. There is a sexy leader of the clan she is born into and she is damned if she will follow his rules when she never asked to be a vampire. The pacing is good and the world building is fleshed out pretty well for me to just jump into the story. Ethan is a bit overbearing but I assume that's because he's 400 years old.
Amber Blackwood is the main character. She is a witch making toys come alive. Her shop is called The Quirky Whisker, which I just love that name. She sells herbal remedies, candles and toys. She tries to help her friend Melanie who has been feeling sick for a while. She is found dead and the local sheriff who distrusts her makes her the main suspect. She uses her magic to try to find out who really killed her friend. I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for the next one in the series.
The book just seems like another book club group get together but about 25 percent in it changes into a supernatural book. Really loved the world building in this. The “vampire” is a bit different from what you would expect.
Pamela is a southern woman just looking to connect with other book lovers only she really hates the books that are being picked by their group leader. She and some other members branch off and make their own bookclub which is very successful. This is set in the early 1990's but it seems much earlier than that to me. more like the '70s.
I really did enjoy this book very much.
Shelly, her mother and grandmother can all see ghosts. They “collect” ghost that are stuck using their hair and then release them to move on to another plane. Its cute how even animals have ghosts that they help. Shelly starts collecting ghosts hoping that the one ghost she is looking for will come.
This book is about dealing with grief in younger children and how they don't always understand what is happening. This has an uplifting end though. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is set in 1925 Manhattan. Rory is a psychic who scries objects to determine whether they are frauds or the real thing. In comes dashing Ace trying to find out about an object. Turns out more than one person is looking for psychics to unlock a dangerous object. There are no graphic sex scenes but a few sweet scenes between Rory and Ace. I really enjoyed this and will continue the series.
This is the second time around for this book. The first time I don't think I was ready for the deeper parts of the story. Reading again more than 20 years later gave me new insights I didn't seem to understand about the nuances of the book.
Nora Pennington owns a Bookstore/coffee shop. She buys a special piece of pottery for her boyfriend from Danny who winds up dead in the river in the town. She and her friends all try to figure out how he died as they don't think it was an accident due to the torrential rains they have been having. She also befriends Sheldon who is great the customers in her shop. Sheldon is very quirky and fun. Even though this was the third book in the series I still was able to catch up with what was happening in the series. Very fun read.
I jumped into this series at number 13 but plan on going back and reading the series from the beginning. You can easily read these as stand along books as all the characters are explained as you go along and there is a handy cast list in the beginning in case you get lost.
It is the story of a shy girl coming back to her hometown after the death of her mother. She sort of falls in with the knitting group of the town by accident. There is the murder of one of the characters and unfortunately Rose becomes one of the suspects. So the group: Izzy, Nell, Cass and Birdie are out to figure the mystery out and who really did it.
I really enjoyed the interaction of the knitting group. As a bonus there is pattern in the back of the book to knit. Although I would have liked a little schematic of what it would look like.
This was an excellent book. I'm so glad I was finally convinced to start reading it. I love the world that is created. It is original and a bit different lore to the vampire story.
The book had lots of gothic atmosphere to it but with a more contemporary setting. Is the nanny unreliable? Is she imagining stuff? Are the children evil? Is the house evil? Are the parents at fault? Lots of character development and the development of the relationship of the nanny and the kids is nice. Interesting turn at the key, like every good gothic mystery.
This had a slow start for me. I almost gave up but then it picked up about a third in and I couldn't put it down after that.
Nikki Heat get a new murder of an art collector. There seems to be a lot of suspects in the beginning. Nikki is trying to keep Jameson Rook, the reporter that follows all of her cases, at bay. But he is growing on her. Fans of the show Castle can see the characters easily in this book. The beginning was a bit boring but got more interesting about halfway through. I would give it another 1/2 star for the surprise ending I didn't expect.
Wes Cooper is a not quite dead person. He somehow can be both corporal and a ghost. He is in the business of “finding” things, aka stealing them for his clients.
His latest job winds up with a dead person and his old flame Hudson Rojas is the detective on the scene.
I really enjoyed the romance byplay between Wes and Hudson but it did not overwhelm the story and the mystery. The world building was really well explained. I am going to continue this series.
I haven't read this series in a while and this was a very good addition to the series. I was getting tired of it but this one brought me back to it.
Briar Pryce has a magical talent of being able to change people's emotions by giving them a rose. She takes a job trying to save a princess' boyfriend. There is a magical section in New York called the Apple. This is not available to non magical people. She gets into quite a few scrapes trying to find out who took Rick. There seems to be more to the situation than she was told. I really enjoyed this story and am getting ready to read the next one in the series. It is a well fleshed out world and believable. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
Stephen has a public fight with her ex-husband and then he disappears. Stephanie and Ranger try to find out what happened to him and clear Stephanie. We slowly find out more about Ranger with each book. I so want him and Stephanie to end up together. He just seems to care a lot more about her than Morrelli. I love these books. I listen to them on audiobook and just love the narrator.
This was a fun cute romance. This is early Janet Evanovich. It has her signature funny cute characters like Bob the dog and Elsie.
Aiden has to solve and prevent Evelyn's murder to get out of the neverending repeating day. He keeps repeating the same day in the bodies of different people. It is a strange book and takes a little getting used to. There is a bit of a surprise at the end.
This was a fun book to read. I learned quite a bit about color mixing using many different mediums such as watercolors, paints, colored papers. I immediately got out my colored pencils and started playing with different combinations. As a crocheter and knitter this information given will really help me find great color combinations.
I am a fairly new person to the ideas of mixing colors but the information was given in straight forward language. I really like the idea of the “mother color” to base a project off of.
This was a fun second installment of the series. Imogene Loveless looks amazingly like the actress Jessica Stone who is the Princess Amara in her favorite science fiction show. By accident she winds up impersonating Jess Stone and they switch places to find out who is leaking the next script. This was a nice light read and will look forward to the next in the series.
