This is the best book I've read in a while. Engaging story and lyrical prose. I'm recommending it to all my students.
I like the premise- a re-telling of the Odyssey from Penelope's point of view, but I felt the story was lacking subtlety.
After the bank robbery (not a spoiler), the book drags. Just saw Richard Ford on The Colbert Report, and he seemed like a drag too.
Good one. I found myself dreaming in the book's premise- an ever slowing rotation of the earth. I like the idea of the young protagonist dealing with her own problems while the world falls apart around her.
Good story but the fact that it's written completely in the first person plural was distracting. I get why it was done, but I think it prevented me from really engaging with the text.
Just taught this book to grade 9 students. I liked it when I read it (not nearly as much as Things Fall Apart), but the subject matter really didn't hit the spot with 14 year olds.
