I really liked this, but didn't realize it was based on Margaret Mead's life until I finished.

Amusing, but I like his fiction better.

This is the best book I've read in a while. Engaging story and lyrical prose. I'm recommending it to all my students.

I like the premise- a re-telling of the Odyssey from Penelope's point of view, but I felt the story was lacking subtlety.

Great book. Thanks for the recommendation Chloe.

Another novel with a unique point of view by Hamid.

I like the way Patchett writes, but I wasn't exactly moved by the story.

Best book that I've read lately.

After the bank robbery (not a spoiler), the book drags. Just saw Richard Ford on The Colbert Report, and he seemed like a drag too.

View

Not the kind of thing I usually read, but it was a real page turner.

Good one. I found myself dreaming in the book's premise- an ever slowing rotation of the earth. I like the idea of the young protagonist dealing with her own problems while the world falls apart around her.

View

Good story but the fact that it's written completely in the first person plural was distracting. I get why it was done, but I think it prevented me from really engaging with the text.

Just taught this book to grade 9 students. I liked it when I read it (not nearly as much as Things Fall Apart), but the subject matter really didn't hit the spot with 14 year olds.

A great period piece. Strong story and very likeable protagonist.
