I wouldn't say it was great, but it wasn't all around bad. I gave it a 3 because I felt like it didn't deserve the 2.

I was also intrigued by some of the elements and what Alex gets to see. Alex was your average guy who went hard on the mourning side, so much so I had to kind of roll my eyes. Yes, I get losing someone hurt. Been there, done that... but I also know that you shouldn't drag others down because of it.Either way, I found myself all in all liking it.

There were moments when things were a bit... spooky but it was mostly gore-ish and anything having to do with kids are a kinda... triggering. I get the concept of the whole thing it just wasn't done as well as I would have hoped.

It wasn't a bad read, actually a pretty quick one for me. It was a good basic murder/mystery though for the horror aspect... eh? It is also your basic horror that comes with a book like this. The plot itself is good, I did like the whole reason behind all of this but I did find some things kind of... odd? Dev didn't really belong or, well, it wasn't done well. Like, I got what Darcy wanted to do with it and it was a pretty darn good idea but having the MC find Alexis journal... and then so quickly decipher it? It really threw me out of being in the zone on this book.

It was a pretty good book and the horror was pretty good as well. I wouldn't really compare it to Stranger Things in any kind of way. Just because it was set in the 80s doesn't mean they are on the same level. It doesn't really give much nostalgia. Besides that, the creepy kids that show up? A+. Love them. The regular kids were pretty okay as well. It was kind of slow burned at the beginning but really picked up once everyone was introduced and such. The only real negative about the book was the ending and one of the couples. Honestly it was so unsatisfying.

I adored Suffer the Children, though I wouldn't put Episode Thirteen above it. Suffer the Children was something I haven't read before. It was unique in its subject. Episode Thirteen reminded me of a mix between House on Haunted Hill (1999 film) and House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Not saying this is a bad thing, but it gave me familiar ties and wasn't something I was super wowed about. All in all it was a good spooky book. I enjoyed the journey and the ending was a nice touch! As for rating, that is the real hard part. I am rounding up to a 4 because of how it is laid out and how the audio is kind of its own separate entity.If you can I would suggest reading the ebook or physical and listening to it at the same time!

The cover is what drew me in the most and then the summary of the story was so/so but enough to want to read it. When I did start it I wasn't so sure if I was going to actually like it. It seems kind of ordinary, it is a bit difficult to explain. I kept reading and was slowly, like the story, becoming interested then when I was very much into the manga the end came up. I was so blindsided. Lol. Needless to say I have to read the second volume. I need to know what happens.

This manga was a quick and calming read. Loved the comedic bit. As for a story... it was just a girl and her dog. If you are looking for something cute and light I really suggest this book!

Want to thank Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to listen to this book. Now I will begin with the things that I loved about because ranting about the things I disliked is going to be a doozy. And honestly I don't see how people could give it as high of a rating.

THINGS I LOVED:

First, I love love love how it was read! I don't know how it worked for Ereader or the physical book but if you like podcasts... you are going to love this. I absolutely adored how it was done in that aspect. With podcast I love breaks and this did that even with the other storytelling. It reminded me of Upped and Vanished, a real podcast. We got to hear him to his research, his interaction with his bosses and other people. We also got him going around and interviewing, it was great.

Second, the magic and Violet. I was astounded by what Violet could do and what she did for herself. I could honestly see why people loved her. She had to fight big for who she wanted to be and I madly respect that.

It may seem like this list is short but these two were the majority of the book so don't worry! (Also the fight against the misogynistic pricks is 100.)

THINGS I DIDN'T LOVED:

First, I hated the family. Straight up seeetthhiiing hate. I hate that they didn't really take accountability (minus the niece.) Sasha had it basically all and took the one person Violet had from her, THEN at the end of the book gave a piss ass poor excuse for it. Like how can you not see that what YOU did would hurt and cause a riff between the two?

Second, Sasha. She was a “pity me I did this to myself but it is my sister's fault” piece of crap. I feel like the author had inserted herself into Sasha and tried to get us to pity both. Not ONE time did Sasha ever sit and freaking think that hey... MAYBE I am the problem. Is Violet spotless? Flawless even? Hell no. Violet had ISSUES but you know what? She freaking OWNED up to them more so than her sister who bashed and bashed and bashed. I am not going to feel sorry for the girl who got it all and refused to see her sister STRUGGLING.

And also, side note, just because you DO good things doesn't make you a good person. Psycho's do good to hide the freaking crazy.

Third, the military aspect we were left with loose ends for that and I wish there had been more of an explanation.

Fourth, the ending was so rushed. I mean RUSHED. It wasn't so bad but it wasn't great. We got SOME answers but how it was presented wasn't up to par.

Want to first thank Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to listen to this book. What first got me was the cover and then the summary. I was kinda of in a middle ground of just finishing a book and about to start another in a couple of weeks so I threw my luck on this book. I DOWNED this book in TWO DAYS!

I loved the story. An ex-druggie turned baby sitter having to figure things out. It kind of played like a movie in my head a bit. It was detailed enough but not overly detailed. The characters played their role beautifully. The author didn't waste too much time on secondary characters and the ending was just perfect!

Was it horror? Eehhh not really, personally I say the horror was like 10%? Not a lot, basic, and elementary at most. I came for the horror but stayed for the thriller.

Also for an audiobook I suggest chapter numbers for titles and not the title of the book for each and every chapter. That is the worst part of this whole experience!

When my request to read this book I was super excited since I had it on my ‘to be read' list but there was a lot of confusion going on and a good chunk of the stories I couldn't tell you what happened if it saved my life.

If you are going to do an audiobook with more than one story I HIGHLY suggest you break it down each story to a chapter and an essay to its own chapter. I had gone to the chapter list to go back to one of the stories and couldn't find it because there are no names to each chapter.

I did like the essay part of the book, it was really nice to hear about where the stories came and what gave the author's inspo. I know the rating summed up to a 2.75 but putting a 2 seemed like I harsh rating since I did technically like half of the book and the narrators.

As someone from Louisiana I am always excited to see what stereotypes they put in the book. This one did okay. As for the story, I thought I knew who the bad guy was at the beginning but figured it out around the middle of the story. Not too bad. Did I like the main druggie girl? Eh, not too much. I get the reason for her craziness but at the same time it was just annoying.

Now... as for Daniel. Him leaving is an annoyance... The twists and turns and dive was good. I mean it wasn't GREAT but it wasn't horrible as well. I know I scored it a 3.75 but I don't think it is worthy of the 4.
