I read the original story many years ago in elementary school and remember loving Watership Down so it was interesting to visit the story again in its graphic novel format. A must read for fans of the original novel!
4.25-This book leaves you with so many questions but yet it compels you to move forward into the strange environment. One of the entries the main character writes in her journal is so true. This is in the context after so many deaths happened. “The terrible thing, the thought I cannot dislodge after all I have seen, is that I can no longer say with conviction that this is a bad thing. Not when looking at the pristine nature of Area X and then the world beyond, which we have altered so much.”
As a person that enjoys reading post apocalyptic or dystopian novels, the premise of this book had me intrigued-to end the human world to save the natural world. Reading this book was a bit of a struggle however due to the constantly switching narratives. I did find many parts interesting to read and very eye opening but tended to struggle greatly when it came to the AI dialogue. Humans as a whole are self preservationists so I found some parts very unbelievable. Interesting concept but not one I would recommend overall.
Having read Robert Jackson Bennett previously and enjoying his writing style, I was excited to see he was coming out with a new book! First of all, like Foundryside, I was initially drawn to this absolutely beautiful cover. Although I'm not usually into detective type of stories, I decided to give this one a try due to enjoying his writing style and this does not disappoint. It's more a futuristic novel with human enhancements, different types of societies and ways of life. If you love books where plants do unusual things and quirky characters, you'll love this!
This was a re-read for me. It's been many years since I read it on Kindle and want to read(for the first time) the rest of the series. I enjoyed reading it all over again and want to note that if you have the 2020 updated edition, please read the authors notes at the end.
