Every city has a superhero and supervillain. Sand City is the only one that is “out”. Meaning, everyone knows who the villain is since he runs the city. Keladry aka Reader and her brother are competing to see who will take over the family business as supervillain. Doctor Kimber Wellington has just moved to Sand City hiding from his past. He helps the wrong woman bleeding in an alley and his life is about to change forever. This book just didn't do it for me. I didn't hate it, but, I was glad when it was over. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.
Cress has been a prisoner on a satellite in space for what seems like forever. After risking her life to help Cinder, she anxiously awaits a rescue. The rescue does not go as planned. Sybil knows and is ready. With no choice but to leave some behind, Cinder must prepare to fight and stop Kai from marrying Levana. I LOVE this series! Rebecca Soler is such a great narrator.
When a dead woman starts talking through John's car radio, he's off to Alaska to help the woman's son deal with a necromancer. Another fun read!
I received copy of this book from NetGalley. Marion is probably the most powerful being in the world. Or, at least she was. Waking up in the woods with no memory, Marion can't remember anything but her name and another, Seth Wilder. She must find him if she is to get her memory back. With so many people trying to kill her, that's easier said than done. With no memory, she doesn't even know who to trust. I really enjoyed this book, it was fast-paced and I look forward to the next one.
I got the first 2 collections of these novellas from the author for review, but it just wasn't enough! I had to have more. I was excited to find this on Amazon, but also bummed that there are no more yet. These are must read stories!!
Muse is half-demon. She tries to blend in among humans, and does a pretty good job until she starts getting attacked. It can only be one person behind the attacks, but she refuses to believe it. She must embrace her inner demon before it's too late. This might be a great book, but the narration was so horrible that I had a hard time getting through it. It's doubtful that I will continue the series, but if I do, I will just read them, not listen to them.
Still trying to decide whether or not he should tell his sister about all that happened to her, Paxon is sent on a mission to find out if a boy possesses the wish song magic. Of course, Arcannen gets there first. Paxon is not surprised that he would want to possess someone so potentially powerful. Many things happen to make Paxon question the path he chose. Will he leave Paranor or stay? Another great addition to the series!
Remko and The Seers are still evading The Authority. Life has gotten very dangerous for them. With a wife and a baby now, the stakes are even higher. Will the weight of responsibility and failure crush him? or will he finally believe and let the fear go? I liked this book, but not as much as the first. This one seemed more religious, and I just thought it was too much. That being said, I will still read the next one because I need to know how it ends.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley. Savannah spends her 16th birthday in a coma. She had surgery for a brain aneurysm and did not wake up like she was supposed to. After 2 months in the coma, her 4 sisters join hands with her, and they are all united when she wakes up. Little do they know, because of the joined hands, the 5 of them now have a little something extra. I thought this book was ok, and I finished because it had enough of my attention that I wanted to know what happened, but it just didn't have enough excitement for me. I would still give it a try, as everyone's tastes are different.
Tulupea is a dark faerie princess. She is sent to Earth to help with repairing the damage done by war. Earth is on the brink of death, and without restorative magick, the planet will not make it. This book has gotten great reviews, so maybe it's just me, but I was very bored throughout this book. I like characters that I can really root for, but none of these characters stood out to me. I also want to be wowed by the world building, and that just didn't happen with this book. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley.
Britta is alone in the world. She used to track and hunt with her father and his apprentice Cohen, but her father is dead, and Cohen left. She knows she is about to lose her home as well since she has no legal right to it according to the laws of the land. Her only chance for survival is to hunt food and trade it for shelter. Caught hunting in The Ever Woods, Britta now faces the noose for poaching. Until she is offered a choice. Hang, or track the only friend she's ever had and turn him in. I really liked this book. Britta and Cohen are great, and I look forward to the next one. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley.
Imagine having to serve 10 years of your life as a slave to the wealthy and elite. If you were born without magic, you have to. Abi thought if she could get her whole family to serve their time together at the estate of one of the most powerful families in history, everything would be great. It has to be better than the factories right? Needless to say, things don't go according to Abi's plans. This is a great story, the world created is completely screwed up and utterly fascinating. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley
Ever since the resistance fell, Ari has been making her money by selling her talents to those with the most money. She is brilliant, fearless, and as good a thief as an engineer. Until she comes across a dragon on her way home from a very risky job. Should she stop and take it's heart for more money, or be happy with the money from the job she just finished? This was the first book I've read by Elise Kova, and I have to say, I've been missing out. The book started a little slow, but picked up after the first few chapters. The characters are fantastic!! I love the cover too. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley.
Now that Kaylin has returned from The West March, she can start seriously looking for a new home. The Palace might be most girls dream home, but not Kaylin's. She gets woken up dragons, and she just can't relax because she might get something dirty. Also back from the West March, are Annorian and Mandarin, Teela's childhood friends. They know that the regalia of their youth and the time locked in the green has made them different, but events are showing them that they are now VERY different. Their differences may put all of Elantra at risk. This book was fantastic!! Now I have to hurry up and read Cast in Honor, because Cast in Flight will be here Tuesday!!
Will Morgan has no imagination. He used to, but after years of listening to all of father's points against imagination, Will lost his. Now an adult, Will does the same thing everyday. Trudges to work, trudges home, trudges to work, trudges home. Until, Mr. Dinsdale offers him a job. His life will never be routine again. This was a fun read. Lots of humor. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.
This book follows M, a powerful, magical drifter on his travels. After being away for a long time, M decides to go back to his home in New York. Although he tells no one of his return, it's only a matter of time before they figure it out. At first I didn't like how it jumped from one adventure to the next instead of a seamlessly flowing story, but, after a while, I couldn't wait to see what mess he would find himself in next! I loved this book and would gladly read more about M, Boy, Andre and the gang!
I received a copy of this book from Net Galley.
The town of Pemkowet looks like your average summer town. But, it's not. Pemkowet has an underworld. Tourists flock there to catch a glimpse of fairies, naiads, werewolves, vampires, etc. Daisy Johanssen calls Pemkowet home. Part time file clerk for the local police station, Daisy is also Hel's enforcer. That is, the Goddess Hel which presides over the supernatural community. When a college kid drowns, Daisy is called in to work with the police because it may not have been a simple drowning. It may be murder, and not by a human. This book was right up my alley. Lots of magic, I loved the characters, and the town, all of it! I was really glad it had very little romance. Can't wait to read the next one.
I received a copy from NetGalley. Paxon, Leofur, and Chrys are basking in the uneventful days at Paranor. After battling Arcannen twice, losing friends and nearly their lives, they are enjoying the break. But, it doesn't last. Paxon must go to a meeting with the Federation to better the relationship with the Druids. Arcannen has other plans for everyone. I really enjoy this series.
The Lamaru are back. Chess is working a case so big that she had to be Bound to silence. Terrible still hasn't forgiven her. So much going on in this book, and I never wanted it to end!! In my review for the last book, I said it took the series to a whole new level, but this was way beyond even that. So much gut-wrenching pain! But the ending left a big sappy smile on my face. I LOVED it!!!
Elantra is still reeling from the battle with the Ancestors. Every race lost someone. Seems like they would get a break from the chaos, but they won't. Evanton's Garden is unstable, Nightshade is missing, and there are two new citizens in Elantra. Three murders just happen to take place across the street from them. Coincidence? With Kaylin's luck, probably not. I will say it again, I love this series!!!
The School of Night is at it again. They have a book that they can use to transform people into something other than human. All in an effort to break the Pax Arcana. Enter John Charming and Co. They must all work together again to try to save New York and stop their enemies before this thing spreads. I love, love, love this series!! So many characters to love (or hate). I can't wait for more!
Selene DiSilva fights bad guys. Abused women call her, and she takes care of their problems. Lately, she doesn't heal as fast as she used to. She's also not as fast as she used to be. That's because she is no longer Artemis. When she finds a woman's body, it has ancient ritual written all over it and brings her past rushing back. This was a good book, but I got bored every time Theo started talking.
Elanna was taken from her family when she was a small child. She has grown up as the king's ward. He is like a father to her. When the king is murdered, she is the one accused. She must flee or die. She must go home to the family she hasn't seen in years. She must learn to use magic forbidden by the king. She must free her homeland. I liked this book, some of the characters, and the magic. It was just a bit slow in spots. I received a copy from Net Galley.
Colt Harper is a master vampire cat. In fact, he's the last of his kind. He has made it his mission in life to kill humans who don't treat cats with the love and adoration they deserve. But, things aren't the way they used to be. The Council is against killing humans, so Colt is once again in trouble. Usually his community service is gardening or some other boring job. Since this is his last chance, the punishment is very severe, his punishment this time is community theater. This was a quick read, lots of humor, and Colt and Jax are great together. I received a copy from Net Galley.
