I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. What started off slow to me ended up being one of the best books that I have read in a long time. I just couldn't wait to read more about the life of Teresine and her mortal interactions with the Fae. I could picture the faery Queen's court and all the surrounding lands. This book is amazing!
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I love reading about fairies, I find them to be fascinating. This book was good, it was just way too YA for me and lacked the action and excitement I was looking for.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal). Tobias is from a parallel world where only the wealthy can learn to read and do magic. Tobias was taught these things in private so he could defend himself against the harvesters. Sent to our world to escape, Tobias is trying to find a way home, and a way to stop the harvesters once and for all. But, he's running out of time, because the harvesters are here. I would've given this 4 stars, except for the fact that the kids didn't even question that magic was real. I get that they are teens, but there was no disbelief or anything. It just wasn't believable to me. That said, I did enjoy the book. I will probably read the next in the series.
After a plague leaves most women infertile, the ones who aren't are called breeders. Their only purpose is to bear children. They are supposed to be unharmed, but that doesn't stop a certain creep in charge. I knew what to expect from the warning, and this book was kind of a turn on. It was pretty fast paced, and had a good story line to go along with the eroticism.
Lissa is a teenager in the hospital, suffering from cancer. Are the wizards she keeps seeing real or a result of her treatment? The great battle between light and darkness is coming, does Lissa play a part? I enjoyed this book. It was a mixture of fantasy, history, and magic. The ending leaves you wanting more!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Hal Rupert is an animal control officer, and a legend in his own mind. A bad-ass with a catch pole, Hal feels it's his duty to protect the citizens of Eugene and surrounding areas. Lately, Hal has noticed more lycans, and less hippies. He can tell something is amiss and he will find out what it is. This was a fun book. The characters are great, and I couldn't wait to read more. The combination of magic, ass kicking, and humor made this a great read. I hope there will be more books in this series.
This was only the second audiobook I've ever listened to. I loved it!! What a great end to a fabulous series (although I think there should be more). Diana is pregnant with twins, and she can't keep it a secret any longer. Matthew will also have to tell his secret, he has blood rage. Both of these secrets violate to Covenant, and antiquated set of rules governing creatures. The search continues for the Book of Life, and the search for Matthew's psycho son Benjamin. They must find the Book, figure out why they were able to conceive, stop Benjamin's torture, and convince the Congregation to help. This book was soooo good! I love Deborah Harkness, and am becoming an audiobook fan as well. I would love to hear more narrated by Jennifer Ikeda, she is great to listen to.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. What a horrible story!! Horrible as in all the horrible things that happen to 14-year-old Daina. Daina is very bright, unfortunately the daughter of a drunk. She had terrible things happen to her. But, that was 10 years ago,and now her body has been found. What really happened to her? I couldn't stop reading this, it was like watching a train wreck. Awful, but you look anyway. The book isn't awful, just everything this poor girl had to endure. The only thing missing for me was what happened to all the bad people? Did they get what was coming to them?
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Noelle Hartley is almost 17. On her seventeenth birthday, she, like all people in The United Vales of Fell, is scheduled for immersion. Fell wants complete control, so they immerse people to take away any thoughts or memories that they deem dangerous to them. Words and reading are among the things forbidden. Noelle was born with the gift of words and she is willing to fight to save that. As an avid reader, I cannot imagine a world without books, or kindles, or anything book related. The problem I have with this book is that Noelle wasn't completely committed to the cause, she went back and forth about turning herself in, and if she did succeed, what would she really change? She wasn't a very likable character for me. It seemed like a really long book without much substance.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I haven't read very much steampunk, but I think that will change now. The story starts with Eyelet, a young girl suffering from seizures. In a literal flash, the world goes dark, and stays that way. Years later, seventeen years old and on her own, Eyelet must find her father's greatest invention and cure herself before she is suspected of being mad. I enjoyed reading about all the invented gadgets. The world building was great. Are they actually on the edge of the world? I also liked the fact that there are a form of zombies too. I am ready to read the next book and have all my questions answered!
This is the story of Odysseus. It starts when he is a young prince getting ready to go before the oracle at Pytho. He wants nothing more than to rule Ithaca one day just like his father. His life will be turned upside down after hearing the oracle. He will be marked for death. He will be hunted.
I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read any Greek mythology in a while, so this was a nice change of pace. I loved some of the characters, and absolutely hated some others. Reading about how the women were treated then never fails to piss me off! This was my first time reading anything by David Hair and I will definitely read more.
I received a copy of this book from Net Gallery. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Elizabeth is a poor college student, working on her thesis. That thesis is a translation of an ancient Irish book. A book that appears to change at will. Although she thinks she might be losing it, she plods on. With so much debt, she is hoping to get a scholarship from the Trinity Foundation. Little does she know, the Trinity Foundation is not what it appears, nor is she. Thinking her mother died when she was a baby, Elizabeth knows nothing about her lineage, but that is all about to change. This book was pretty good, but I think the romance was too much for me. I love all things faerie, but I am not a romance fan at all. If you like faeries and romance, then this is for you. I doubt I will continue the series because of that.
This book starts out 20 years after The Calling when Elise, (Carrington and Remko's daughter) was taken. Seven warriors are chosen by the Seers to get Elise back and take over Authority City. This is the ultimate good vs. evil battle. I was really disappointed in this book. I really enjoyed the first 2 in the series, and they were somewhat religious, but this one was too much for me. I also did not like the fact that it took 20 years to go get Elise back. I thought it should have picked up where The Calling left off. I received a copy of this book from Edelweiss.
I really enjoy Sara. How she manages to get herself out of these situations is always an entertaining read.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Philip Pinkerton is the darkest of dark necromancers. Believed to be dead, Damian and company are shocked to find out that not only is he alive, he plans to release a demon into the world. In order to stop him, everyone will have to bury their differences and fight together against the evil they have in common. Werewolves, vampires, water witches, fairies, and more unite and make this a great read. I thought the first book in this series was good, but this one was fantastic!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This was a difficult book for me to rate. I don't read a lot of non-fiction, but when I see one about the Holocaust, I usually check it out. I liked this book, but I didn't like how he went back and forth with the dates. It was just confusing. That being said, it was an interesting read. I can see how food and supply shortages could drive this kind of thinking, the us or them philosophy. I still hope nothing like the Holocaust ever happens again though. It is soooo disturbing to me that so many followed Hitler. I would've given this 4 stars, but the date jumping made this more difficult to read. I wish he would've started at one year and worked his way up.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Silver hair, purple eyes, Integrity is a Sidhe. At least she was born one. With no knowledge of what happened to her parents, only hearing ugly rumors, Integrity ran away from that life when she was eleven. Taken in by Taylor, she lives the life of a thief. Now that she's all grown up, she is summoned by the Sidhe. She has no intention of going back, and they must know it because her friends end up in jail, or with a hit on them. The only way to save her true family is to go back to the life she left behind. Magic is failing, and they must have the heir of Clan Adair to help them. But, will she survive long enough to help? I thought it started kind of slow, but I'm really glad I kept going. I really warmed to Integrity and her band of misfits, and I can't wait to read the next one!!
Nicole Cassidy's life is in an uproar. First, she has to move from Georgia to New England. Then, when she shows up for school, she finds out that her homeroom is actually a secret witch coven! Her teacher tells her that she got her powers from one of her parents. Knowing that her mom isn't a witch, and not knowing her biological father narrows it down. When a comet passes over town, it thins the veil between this world and the Titans prison world. Nicole and her friends have to figure out how to close the portal before their world is overrun with evil. This book was ok, but lacked the wow factor that I was looking for. The high school love triangle took away from the story in my opinion.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Aurora was an orphan until she was adopted by a loving couple. She had no memory of her birth parents. All she had was a necklace when she went to the orphanage. She believes it's all she has from her parents. Now she is sixteen, her adopted parents died in a car accident and she is living with her adoptive father's brother. Her aunt and cousin hate her, but she thinks her uncle is ok. That all changes when they go to stay at his bosses estate. I will stop there so I don't give anything away. This book is magical and I really liked it. I highly recommend it to fantasy and YA fans.
Sophronia, Dimity, and Sidheag have really gotten themselves into trouble this time! After receiving a pidgeon, Sidheag leaves school to help her pack. Sophronia and Dimity leave shortly after for a party at Sophronia's family home. But, they never go to a party without something going wrong!! Stolen trains, no working mechanicals, dirigibles, vampires, werewolves, Picklemen, and a few engagements made this my favorite so far! Moira is so good at all of the characters, these books are great to listen to!!
Jessa Lebron is a wolf shifter. She lives in Stratford, a supernatural community. Stratford is also home to Vanguard, a supernatural prison. She goes to college, and hangs out with her pack, the Compasses. The Compasses are quads, and each is a different type of supe. They are also destined to sit on the Council in a few years, but someone has other plans for them. Jessa's mother decides to come back into the picture after 22 years, and someone is gunning for Jessa, or is it the Compasses, or both? This book was fast-paced, I just had to move past the YA moments. Luckily, they weren't enough to kill the story for me. I still enjoyed it, and since it left me hanging, I started the next one too.
Claire Danvers is sixteen and uber smart, but , going off to college at that age is freaking her parents out. So, rather than letting her go to one of the top schools far away, they think it would be good for her to stay closer to home. They have no idea that sending her to Morganville is a really bad idea. Claire never believed in vampires until she moved to Vamp USA, and now she may not get out alive. I almost gave this book 3 stars instead of 4. I really liked it, but not the narration so much. I think I will just read the next ones.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Brier Chastain suffers from an increasingly debilitating malady. Palmer Tash has a strange hearing impairment that only allows him to hear one thing at a time. From seemingly different worlds, their paths cross once. Then, they are both kidnapped. What is so important about these two that they would be kidnapped? And together? The reason I gave it 3 stars and not 4 was that it started really slow. Once it picked up speed, it was really good.
Sophronia, Dimity, and the rest of the girls at Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Aademy for Young Ladies of Quality are being tested. Some will do well, others will end up on probation, and one will stand out. Meanwhile, something is going on that will land them in London, and it appears someone is after Dimity and Pillover. Using her training, Sophronia plans to get to the bottom of all the secrecy surrounding her. I don't read a lot of steampunk, but I really enjoy these books. The messes they get into are very funny to me and I look forward to the next book.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Lucky de Salle can see and communicate with ghosts. Because of this, she was bullied as a child, and made an outcast as she grew older. She also outed anyone that was a fake claiming to be psychic. Her best friend for her whole life has been a ghost named Kayla. But is she really a ghost or something else? Strange things start to happen that have her questioning what Kayla is and if she can really be trusted. This book started out good, fizzled in the middle, then picked up speed again at the end. I can't say it held my attention enough to continue on with the series.
