I loved the concept of this story, a kingdom that is completely ruled by women? Sign me up! However, I feel like it could have been done better. The forced “best friend” relationship between Aeve and Merinor? Ummm that could have easily and should have been a romantic relationship! I ship it for sure and I was annoyed by how much the author forced the “oh we're just best friends” aspect. I don't know if this changes in future volumes or not, but I probably won't continue with this series. I was also against the song parodies. It just annoyed me. I also don't really like when there is “music” in books because I don't know what the melody is, so if I didn't recognize the song I was confused. Overall I think that this book just really fell flat for me. With something that could have been so amazing I was really disappointed.

We Were Feminists Once: From Riot Grrrl to CoverGirl®, the Buying and Selling of a Political Movement

I had to read this book for school and I struggled my way through. Maybe it was due to the sheer amount of pages I was assigned to read at a time that didn't allow me to actually enjoy this book, but I felt myself falling asleep at times during this book. I was just so bored most of the time. There were like three chapters that I found semi-interesting, but the chapters were SOOOOO long. I was constantly counting how many pages I had left and telling myself I only had 10 pages left. I had to force myself to continue reading and reward myself with numerous breaks to read something I was actually enjoying. Maybe reading this book in a more casual environment might make it more enjoyable? But for me it just really missed the mark and I cheered when I finished the last page. Had I not been required to read this for school I would have DNFed it for sure.

Turtles All the Way Down

Turtles All the Way Down

I'm going to start with a trigger warning: OCD, Anxiety, Intrusive thoughts.
I'm making sure to put this trigger warning out there because this book triggered me. I have read numerous books that contain trigger warnings for all kinds of different topics and have never experienced being triggered by a book until now. I knew what this book was about, and I had seen others trigger warnings concerning the topic, but I didn't think much of it. That being said, this book sent me into an anxiety attack due to an anxiety attack Aza experienced so I would highly encourage you to take this trigger warnings seriously.

That being said, I did really enjoy this book. The fact that I was triggered by it made me feel that the writing was strong and accurate. I loved the way John Green handled mental illness in this book and the way it was raw and real, rather than sugar coated. I decided on a 4 star review because I felt like the missing billionaire plot line was unnecessary, secondary, and often times felt like it was ignored or glossed over. (I know I am not the only one who feels this way either.) Overall I really enjoyed this book. I think it is a very important book that provides an accurate and realistic look at mental illness as well as the way that relationships with people who have a mental illness are not always easy. I think this book could have stood on it's own without the promise of a mystery, because I do not feel like it delivered on that aspect. As a book on mental illness however this book shined. John Green continues to impress me with his novels and Turtles All The Way Down is no different.

Genuine Fraud

Genuine Fraud

2.5/5 stars
Going into this book I was pretty excited because I absolutely adored We Were Liars so I was really looking forward to reading something by the same author. I was really disappointed though unfortunately.

I listened to Genuine Fraud via audiobook because it was narrated by Rebecca Soler, one of my favorite narrators and she was good, like always. I just felt like Genuine Fraud was a bit of a letdown.

The format of the book in case you didn't know is basically told backward. We start out with chapter 18 and make our way to chapter 1. I personally found this format to be extremely confusing. I felt like we were bouncing around all over the place, and it was difficult for me to follow. I had read a few reviews saying that this format ruins the book because you go into the story knowing what happened, you just follow along figuring out HOW. Maybe I'm just super naive when it comes to books though cause I honestly didn't know what was going on from the beginning. I mean yeah I guessed things pretty quickly before they were actually revealed, but I didn't feel like the book actually told me. Maybe it was because I was listening to it rather than reading it physically that I felt myself getting lost in the backward telling, but something tells me I would have been confused either way.

I didn't know anything about this book going in. I didn't even read the synopsis, but as I read I thought it was interesting. I just think it could have been done better. I get that Lockhart was trying something different that not a lot of writers or at least writers that I've seen have done. I get that, but it just kind of missed the mark with me. Especially after something so amazing as We Were Liars which is one of my favorite books, in order to live up to that Genuine Fraud needed to be a masterpiece. And quite frankly it just wasn't. I didn't connect with any of the characters and I still don't feel like I even understand the WHY behind what was done. More confusion there. I get that Jewel is an unreliable narrator and that she's pretty much a psycho. But I wanted to at least get a why from her point of view, but I didn't feel like I did. Or maybe I just missed it.

Overall this book was just a meh read for me. I wouldn't reread it, I don't want to own my own copy of the book. It wouldn't be the first book I recommend to someone. I'd encourage someone to try We Were Liars over this one any day (and I mean I've been encouraging people to read We Were Liars since I finished reading it). If someone asked if they should read Genuine Fraud I'd probably say “Sure if you want to. But fair warning it's super confusing.” I guess this book just didn't really stand out to me and it was just a major confusing letdown.

Restore Me

This is why I prefer to read series that have already been completed because I can go straight from one book to the next. I NEED the next book in this series now! New favorite Shatter Me book by far!

I read the original three books of this series last year, so I was able to remember most of what had happened pretty easily. I also looked back at my review for Ignite Me and I said how I didn't like the ending because I felt like it didn't wrap things up well enough and that things felt rushed and I wanted more. I got more. But now I need even more! Never satisfied with what I have!

If I hadn't gotten sick I probably would have read this book in one day, however, since I did get sick it took me a little longer. I still flew through this book so fast. I loved every page. I loved this book so much.

I was a little bit nervous about having dual perspectives in this book because I don't usually find myself gravitating towards books with more than one perspective. It really worked for me with this book though. It worked in a way that was interesting to me. Every time the perspective switched I found myself wanting to stay with that person and find out what happened next with them. And then when the perspective would switch again I'd want the same thing! I love all of these characters so much and I was so happy to jump back into the world with them. Warner and Juliette and Kenji. And the new characters! I seriously could not get enough of Nazeera, I loved that woman.

And that ending oh my goodness I am still reeling. I cannot. I need more. I'm pretty sure I actually screamed when it was over because it couldn't stop there! I wasn't ready! I needed more! And now I'm going have to wait who knows how long for the next installment!? Why did I have to have this as soon as it came out? I didn't savor it! And now I'm left with nothing for who knows how much longer!

Long review short. If you're hesitant to read the second half of the series don't be. This book is my favorite of all four, and I feel like I may end up liking the second half of the series even more than the first! Juliette has really grown and I love it. I could probably go on for hours about this book. Just read it.

Every Heart a Doorway

This book had been super hyped up by the time I picked it up which made me really excited and made me expect a lot out of it. I think that due to that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I would have otherwise. I was really unsure of it at first. I didn't know how I felt about the writing style, I felt like the plot was kind of slow, and I didn't immediately connect with the book at all. I powered through though because of the rave reviews I had heard and I ended up liking the book. As soon as the climax hit I really started enjoying it more because I obviously wanted to know who the culprit was, and while I was kind of surprised there really weren't many suspects which made it less impactful. I really didn't end up loving this book like everyone else seems too and it made me sad! I really wanted to love this book, I just.. didn't. Overall it was an okay read for me. I picked up all three books from my library so I could binge read them because I knew I'd want to read the other two immediately, but I haven't found myself reaching for the second book at all since I finished this one even though it's sitting on my bedside table. I do want to try to continue the series and finish it out, but I just wasn't as wowed by this as everyone else seemed to be.

Full review to come once I've gathered my thoughts because wow

EDIT: Late review. Super late review, but I prefer to type these on my laptop and I really haven't had the time recently.

This book was insane. I listened to the first half on audiobook and read the second half in physical copy and both were really good. I wouldn't recommend one over another they were both phenomenal.

This book was so creepy and so terrifying and I could not get enough of it. I have never read a book like this before, the perspective is so unique because it's in the second person which really puts you in the mind of our stalker, Joe, and being in Joe's mind is wild. I actually found myself forgetting some of the awful things he had done purely because we were seeing his reasoning behind things. The ways that he rationalized his actions in his head were so creepy because they are similar things that normal romances hold. Had I been in Beck's position I probably wouldn't have known anything was amiss either. Joe was so crafty and so good at covering his tracks that had we been reading this book from Beck's perspective I would have never guessed Joe would have been the culprit. It only really began hitting me once the end events began to wrap and boy did it hit me. I would definitely recommend this book if you want a unique thriller told from the perps perspective and something, unlike anything you may have ever seen before. I know there is a second book in this series, but I've read a number of bad reviews on it and I don't really think Kepnes will be able to outdo the masterpiece that is You so I'm not planning on reading Hidden Bodies.

Oh my gosh I absolutely loved this book! I could not get enough of the writing style, and the world, and the characters! Dhonielle Clayton's writing style was so beautiful, and the world was so interesting! There was so much stuff I didn't see coming, and so much stuff that made my heart feel things. This is honestly my favorite book I've read this year so far. I'm dying knowing I'm going to have wait so long for the next book in the series!! I want more!

A Court of Thorns and Roses

This book has been so hyped and so talked about that I finally decided I had to read it, but I was disappointed! I liked about the last 20% of the book. But I didn't like Tamlin! As much as I tried to like him I just didn't, which made it hard to enjoy the romance as well as most of the beginning of the book. Feyre also isn't my favorite person. Like she's okay I guess, but the only characters that saved this book for me was Lucien and Rhysand. Due to the increase in Rhysand within the last part of the book I think I'm going to try the next book and see how I feel about it. I enjoyed the fairie world and I enjoyed the fantasy plot lines, like I said it was just the romance between Feyre and Tamlin that I really could not get behind.

I've been wanting to read this book for a long time cause I've heard pretty much everyone talk about. And it was good. It was don't get me wrong. I just don't think it was AS good as everyone made it out to be. I thought it was overhyped. I read it really quickly, the writing style was really easy to get through, it read very smoothly. The characters were pretty lovable. I actually really liked this book, and I'm excited for the movie now! Like I said, I just feel like it was overhyped that's why it's only a 4 star book.

The Last Olympian

I finally finished the Percy Jackson series and it only took me like.... 8 years. I feel so accomplished! I was so stuck on Battle of Labyrinth, but I loved The Last Olympian. I felt like everything was wrapped up so nicely and I loved the way the finished out Luke's story. MY HEART. I just still can't believe it took me SO LONG to finish this damn series, but now I want more. I think my favorite part of The Last Olympian was all of the reunions of characters from previous books, as well as the way that they tied everything up and I feel like Riordan really tied up the loose ends well.

Anna Dressed in Blood

I feel really conflicted about my feelings for this book. I liked the creepy factor. I liked the ghost hunting. I liked the ghosts. I did not like the ghost/human love story aspect. It made me feel really awkward and uncomfortable. It's just not my thing I guess? I don't know what I was expecting out of this book, but a romance between Anna and Cas was not it. I also didn't really find the characters THAT enjoyable. Like they were okay I guess, but the book just wasn't really for me. When I first started this book I was unaware that it was supposed to be a duology, but I really don't have any desire to continue on after this one. I read reviews for the second book, which I don't even remember the name of, and I just don't want to spend my time reading it. I don't have the desire to read it, and spend my time on it. So I'm not going to. My journey with Anna, Cas, Thomas, and Carmel is done. I'm fine with the way this one ended.

Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman's Guide to Why Feminism Matters

I read this for one of my Women and Gender Studies classes and there was just so much yes. We had to read it really quickly and there were like over 100 pages assigned a week, but it didn't feel like it was dragging on. It felt like something I would just pick up and read rather than an assigned reading. I loved how candid Valenti was. How approachable and relatable. I know some people would disagree with all the swearing, but it really didn't even bother me. This book was probably my favorite feminist piece I've read so far, and trust me I've read quite a number if you include articles.

We Should All Be Feminists

Heard so many things about this book from my favorite WGS professor. Slightly disappointed in the book. That was just me though. I think everyone should read this book. It's short. It's approachable. It's easy. It's something you can use to kind of dip your toe in the water if you're just learning about feminism, or just allowing yourself to open up to feminism. I'm already 5 college courses deep into high fiber, dense feminist reading though and this book didn't really stick out to me.

The Battle of the Labyrinth

I tried to read this book like 4 times before I actually was able to finish it. I finished The Titans Curse in like 2014 or something. I don't know I was stuck for a long time. But with a new year comes new resolutions and I was going to finish the Percy Jackson series damnit. And that meant I had to get through Battle of the Labyrinth. And I'm glad I did. I ended up enjoying once I pushed past the place I kept getting stuck at. And Riordan is pretty great cause even after years of being out of this world I didn't feel confused. He explained past events in a way that he actually brought them back up rather than just alluding to them vaguely. Thank you for that Rick Riordan. Also it was really fun to see all these characters I love again. Took me forever to get myself to finish it, but yay I did!

American Girls

I was so disappointed in this book. I thought it was going to be more thrillery since ya know... it's marketed as someone who is doing research on the MANSON MURDERS. Also it said that our main character (Can't even remember her name. Whoops) finds all these parallels between her life and the Manson girls lives. I didn't get that at all. This felt way more like a “struggling to make it in Hollywood” “Famous person falls for a not famous person” story and that is not what I signed up for AT ALL. OH AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN MAKE THE “STALKER” PLOT LINE INTERESTING. Like that could have been SO much better than it was like come on man. I was just really disappointed and thought I was going to be getting a much different book than I ended up with.

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock

I didn't really like this book that much. I get that it's supposed to show you the feelings and the reasons behind why someone might want to kill themselves (and someone else I guess). But I just could not get behind Leonard as a character. I did not sympathize or relate with him because killing someone is wrong. I don't care what they did. I also really hated the love interest. I don't even remember her name that's how much I didn't like her. I also hated the way Leonard treated her and wouldn't respect her. I had heard things about this book. Never good or bad, just things. I guess this book just wasn't for me. Also those letters to the future had me all confused for like the first and second one, I was like what the hell is happening and what are these? One last thing. Footnotes are the worst and the interrupted my reading and I hated them.

4.5 actual rating.

Ignite Me was my favorite in the series, however I wasn't satisfied by the ending. I felt like everything at the end happened extremely quickly. It didn't seem like things were tied up. I loved all the rest of the book besides the ending though.

Let me just fangirl for a few seconds about Warner and Juliette because AHHHHHHHH MY BABIES I LOVE IT. MY HEART <3 I ship them so hard <3 Also Kenji is the love of my life.

I could have used a better wrap up, but overall I loved this book compared to the other ones and I'm glad I finished the series.

Pretty Little Liars

I don't really know how I feel about this book. It felt really weird, and I kept comparing it to the TV Show which it's very different from. However, since the show is about to end I figured why not try out the books it's very loosely based on and doesn't actually end up following at all?

I could see these being easy, guilty pleasure reads for me. Er... maybe, is 16 books really easy? We'll see.

As far as content? Hello marketing and product placement. I'm pretty sure every page contained like 5 brand names. Which was kind of annoying, as well as making it feel extremely dated. Half of the brands mentioned aren't even popular anymore.

Anyways, at the end of the day I love the show and I'm willing to give the books more of a chance than just the first one. I own 7 of the books so my goal is to read all 16 by the end of the year. We'll see how that goes though.

Not the best book, read pretty quickly, felt super dated. As much as I hate to say it, so far the book is not better.

Heartless

I have so many feelings about this book. I love Marissa Meyer. I love Rebecca Soler (who narrated the audiobook). I love Alice in Wonderland. I love origin stories. I love everything about Heartless.

The world gave me Caraval vibes, probably due to the fact that Caraval gave me very Wonderlandesque vibes. Which I'm all about whimsical worlds like that.

The ending was absolutely amazing, and really tied it into the canon world of Alice in Wonderland.

Such an amazing read, one of my favorites I've read this year so far.

The Takedown

Okay so I obviously didn't DNF this book.
I almost did, but the mystery aspect kept me hooked. I freaking love mysteries okay? Plus, The Takedown turned out to be an okay book. I didn't feel any emotions from it, but I got used to the writing style and read nearly 350 pages of it in one night. So... yeah I'm glad I didn't DNF it.

The ending was clever. Basically take the culprit out of the running as suspect by having Kyle believe that it wasn't them in the very beginning? I liked it. Even after Kyle said it was her ex-bestfriend I didn't think it was Ailey. I thought it was Audra. And for a split second when I read the part about messing with the InStitches account I thought it was Kyle's mom WHICH LET'S BE HONEST WOULD MAKE FOR A VERY INTERESTING PLOT LINE. (Very My Sister Rosa-esque) Honestly the only character I really liked was Rory, and he was barely even in it compared to the others.

I'm glad I didn't give up on the book, and I definitely enjoyed it. However, it was kind of just a meh book. It didn't wow me, it didn't leave me feeling changed. I don't think it's going to be a book that stays with me forever. It was just a book.

End of extremely long probably boring review.

3.5 stars I'd say.
I was prepared for the worst. I didn't get the worst though. I really liked the first half. The second half was more so meh. I didn't like the dual perspectives that got thrown in near the end. I mostly just found myself confused when it was Noah talking.

I also didn't really like the whole dying scenes and the coming back to life scenes. They didn't really get me. I found them kind of meh.

Also I totally saw Noah's dad being the person behind the entire thing. So instead of a shock factor I was just like. KNEW IT. Called it.

Overall I loved the trilogy though. 8/10 would recommend.

Fracture Me

I don't like Adam. Enough said.

However I'm gonna say a little more. The first part of this was the worst. Is it just me or is the exact same scene just from a different perspective super boring? Cause that's what I was feeling the first like... 7 chapters.

After that it was kind of interesting seeing what REALLY happened (I read the first three chapters of Ignite Me before remembering I owned this novella that came before). I just wish it was from someone else's perspective. (cough Kenji cough). The only redeemable Adam quality is his love for James. And just when I was starting to think MAYBE he's not so bad, I hated him again.

So good. So so good! I loved this book. The ending really got to me, and I love Noah Shaw so much <3. I'm not entirely sure how the third book is going to go, I feel like things definitely could have been tied up in this one and it could have been a duology rather than a trilogy. Plus I've heard the third book isn't very good which makes me really nervous, but here's to reading it anyways. And this book was AMAZING. Due to class I couldn't read it as much as I wanted to, but I feel like I definitely could have devoured this book just as fast I did the first one which I finished in less than a day.
