I did enjoy this, but it was irritated me at times. But then again I'm now 25 not 16 so I am admittedly a little outside the demographic, and I'm more then a bit over teen drama (honestly I didn't even read books like this when I was a teen).
I was so happy to see that no time passed between this book and the previous one. We jumped right in where we left off with the first one.
Lara Jean and Peter are cute. I was happy to see them get back together and enjoyed their relationship. How great was Peter with Lara Jean's sister, Kitty? The family relationships in the book and the cozy baking were nice for me. And I enjoyed hearing about Belleview's residents and seeing the USO party.
But things with Lara and Peter start going down hill mainly because of the amount of time Peter chooses to spend with Genevieve. I mean I do get why it bother Lara Jean, who wants to constantly hear about their boyfriend hanging out with his ex. Especially when that ex put out a “sex” tape out to the whole school featuring Lara Jean and Peter.
So the break-up really wasn't surprising. Then John was brought in more heavily and honestly he's sweet and handsome and in my opinion way more like-able then Peter.
So when Lara Jean chooses Peter over John at the end I'm kind of bummed.
I will still probably try to pick up the next book to see how this all ends and I did enjoy this book even if my rant above doesn't sound that way. Mainly it was a cute quick read.
I wish I liked this more. I was really expecting too, especially after hearing the beginning which I loved the opening chapter. But honestly for me this book just seemed plotless and rambling.
It's just over 12hrs on Audiobook, (I do got to stop and say Christine Eakin who did the reading was great with voices, and I enjoyed the creepy music added in here and there as well) and getting to the last hour and half or so I still wasn't really sure where this book was going. I kept glancing at the time wondering how this book was going to get wrapped up when nothing really happened in the first 10hrs.
The time is eaten up mainly by flashbacks about Tanna's childhood which I found mostly boring and then information about the history of Coldtowns. Which honestly I did like the Coldtown info and found the world Holly Black created to be really interesting. I also liked the personalities of both Tanna and Gavriel (and even the small bursts of supporting characters like Aiden, Valentina, and Jameson). So all of that made the book enjoyable for me.
I just really wish there was more of a plot! Also the ending was left super open. Some may like that but it mostly annoyed me. Which is a shame because a good ending will usually make a book for me.
I enjoyed this book. It was light and fun for the most part and I really enjoyed the cozy family relationship themes throughout the book.
The ending though? Why? A lot of drama was thrown in at the end and the main character is really upset but then suddenly everything's fine in the most anticlimactic way.
I feel like the whole drama at the end was unnecessary, but I will try the sequel to see if that makes me like it more.
I didn't know what to expect going into this book. I picked it up on a whim looking for books to read in October. And the first couple pages I was not sure what kind of book I had chosen.
It turned out to be an entertaining and cute comedy about a young boy who spies on his neighbors and finds them getting taken over by demons who mean to open the gates of hell.
This book made me laugh out loud multiple times especially when the like-able demon Nurd was around. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would read it again.
I LOVED this book! It's been a long time since I enjoyed a young adult novel as much as this one, but this book definitely reawakened my interest in that category.
This book was beautifully written, and unique. Plus a couple of the reveals in the end actually surprised me! Can't recommend this one enough.
I actually enjoyed this one a good bit. And will read the second.
This story centers around a teenager named Elena who is a common-born in a society where only those from mage-born families ever learn to read and write. The reason for this? The ability to write is tied to the ability to compose magical workers and only those from the high-born mage families are able to control this power and not blow up full cities by accident.
Despite being common born Elena is found to have power and power that is spoken nonetheless. This kind of power has never been seen before and there is a large political debate among the high born families wether it is safe or not for her to exist. Meanwhile Elena is also taken to the Mage Academy to study control of her power, where she makes friends and enemies. And of course as most young adult fantasy books do this story also has a romance with a boy that initially dislikes her, in this case the Prince of their society who is also attending the academy this year.
The book has some cliche things about it like the typical “we hate each other but somehow can't get enough of each other” type romance, though it is really light on the romance aspect until the end of the book. The main character is somehow special, completely different then and more powerful (with only a little training) than everyone else trope.
The plot in general is not particularly deep and didn't surprise me anywhere but I went into this expecting a light, enjoyable YA and that is what I got, so I really can't complain.
Wow. This book blew me away. I've been meaning to read it for so long and just finally got around to it. I've even put off watching the movie (which my Mom boasts is amazing) in order to enjoy the book first. I'm so glad I did because this book took me for a ride. I don't want to give anything away so I'll be brief. I loved this book and I loved the way it was written with past diary entries from the Missing Wife, Amy alternating with more current moments in the viewpoint of the husband, (who's suspected of murdering her) Nick.
The ending really makes this book for me (and will keep me thinking about it for months), even though I know some readers will hate it!
I probably put off reading this for so long due to the hype but in this case the hype did not disappoint.

So I originally rated this a 4 but I came back and changed it to a 5 because it's been months and I really am still thinking about how crazy this book is! ...I'm not going to lie it kind of haunts my dreams...
I listened to the audiobook version of this and highly recommend it!
This is the story of Rafe a teenager who has been openly Gay in his hometown for quite a while. Rage decides he's tired of being the “gay kid” in his small town and takes the chance to go to all boys boarding school across the country for his Junior year and start fresh.
While at this new school he never outwardly admits to being Gay in his mind if he no one asks he won't tell and it won't be a lie. (This actually drives me nuts because then he actually does start lying, multiple times and still stubbornly doesn't see it as a problem or the same as being in the closet. But to each their own I guess)
While at school Rafe makes friends with the jocks, kids who would have never accepted him back home, and enjoys being just “one of the guys”. That is until he starts getting close to Ben.
Ben is different. Not judgmental like the other guys, and he doesn't care what anyone else thinks of him. He's deep and thoughtful and Rafe falls for him hard. That's of course where all the trouble starts.
This book was actually really sweet. And it was hard to not fall for Ben yourself seeing him through Rafe's eyes. I really enjoyed this book, it had me laughing at times and at others crying and I can't wait to pick up the sequel.
“When it comes to The 5 Love Languages not only does Gary Chapman explain each love language using detailed anecdotes of couples he had encountered throughout his time being a relationship counselor but he also ends each section with a list of examples of using each love language. This was a really great jumping off point for me since I could try out some ideas and see how my Love reacted before getting creative and making up some ideas of my own.”
