I really loved the mystery within the covers of this novel. It was well written and kept me captivated from the beginning. I have enjoyed all of the books I have read from this author, so I wasn't surprised. So far, this is my favorite book of the year. I haven't read a lot of historical fiction from this time period. It seems easy to find a plethora of WWII based books, which is my favorite genre but I have read so,so many that I wanted a different time period to escape into. I really, liked the immigrant experience, the independent woman in a time period where women didn't have a lot of power, and secrets and lies throughout the book. The entire novel was fantastic.
Historical fiction based in the 70s? Yes please! This book was great and made me long for the time where I was just a baby. I love period fashion, decor, music, etc so this book was right up my alley. It's been a while since I had read a good coming of age novel and this was a good one. I definitely would have loved it in junior high or high school, which I think this might be the audience it's written for. If you loved reading Judy Blume growing up, I think you will love this.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. This is both a beautiful and difficult book to read. It is fiction but you hear about IVF mix ups every once in a while in real life. This book shows what the consequences of a mix up has for 2 couples. I have never dealt with IVF myself so I don't have any personal experience with this topic, but it was still an emotional read for my anyway.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It is written like a fairytale using characters and lore to tell a story of a chosen family of members that would not survive under the Third Reich and what the father figure does to keep them all safe. I loved this book and would recommend to anyone who has a chance to read it.
I have been trying to seek out WWII books with differing perspectives and I am so glad I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. The particular book is about homosexuals being sent to concentration camps and their experiences. If you are wanting to read a book centered on WWII that is about experiences of other prisoners and the atrocities they faced, look into this one.
This anthology has every kind of dog story you can imagine, sad, funny, hopeful, etc. If you are looking for something uplifting, or you need a good cry, or whatever emotion you are looking to feel, I would recommend this book as it has a story for everyone. I am very glad I won this in a Goodreads giveaway as I don't think I would have come across it any other way, which is a shame.
I won a copy of this book in a Goddread's giveaway. I loved the humor in this book and many of us can relate to giving up career aspirations in order to take care of our children. Just because a person isn't on the career track anymore doesn't mean they aren't valuable as the main character in this book showed when she stumbles across a crime and decides to lend her expertise to solving it.
I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads' giveaway. This was a fantastic book that takes place mainly in 1930s Paris when a young artist receives a gift of a trip from his home in Melbourne to Paris. I loved imagining what it was like in Paris and imagining what the art looked like. I would definitely recommend to any readers who like books with artists or art as themes and readers who love reading about the time periods around and including World War II.
My parents bought this for me back in 1980 and it was one of my favorite books to read when I was young. Reading it as an adult gave me an entirely different perspective on the chapter about Dink and his mother's road trip to Connecticut. It is hilarious and no one would be able to get a children's book published with the shenanigans that ensued. If you can get your hands on this book, you are really lucky as it is not in print and you have cash to burn because it isn't cheap, definitely grab it. You probably won't regret it, lol. I still have my copy and read it at least once a year.
