The first 70ish% was pretty good, but then the big *thing* happened and everything was so fucking stupid I wanted to throw my e-reader. I lost all respect for Aaron because I can't see anyone with the slightest bit of common sense reacting the way he did (or more accurately, didn't).
Spoilers below:
News flash, if your husband is declared dead and you have a death certificate, YOU ARE NOT LEGALLY MARRIED AND HAVE NO OBLIGATION TO THAT PERSON, JFC. Especially when it's been 2 years!
I can't believe this series never crossed my radar back in the day. It's going straight to my favorites shelf. It had everything that makes a great book, and I don't even care about the occasional typos/misused words. The story, the characters, the relationship development, the settings, the emotions it evoked, the humor, and the suspense all more than made up for that. Highly recommend, especially if you're new to m/m and are sick of the cliched shit that's taking over nowadays.
I think this is the longest I've ever had to wait for a sequel (12 years!!), and I was worried that it would be a letdown after all that anticipation, especially since I loved the first book so much. I'm relieved to have been wrong! This was so well written and delved so deeply into both Cai and Riley's psyches, showing how both affected their relationship. The plot kept me hooked the whole way through, and by the end, I felt like I knew them both intimately. There was a healthy mix of gut wrenching emotional pain, light-hearted moments that had me giggling, suspense, sweet romance, and heat. I really hope I don't have to wait so long for Julian and Dare's book!
