Creepy, but well-written, science fiction

See my blog at pallotta.blogspot.com - this is one fabulous book

A tale of a hermaphrodite: totally believable and well-written

The first of a trilogy, but it stands well on its own, and is by far my favorite. A border story, mostly in old Mexico.

Il Duomo dominates Florence, and I was so happy I had read this book before I saw Il Duomo.

Believe it or not, I had never read a Stephen King book when I read this one. It's a very thoughtful book about writing, as well as an interesting memoir.

15-year old daughter pronounced it the best book she had ever read in 2000. I resisted reading it, especially the first few pages, but it is a worthwhile read.

This book convinced me I will never hike the Appalachian Trail, and Bill Bryson was nuts to try. I had to read this book in very small bits, because it was so funny, I was afraid I would hurt myself laughing so much.

This is a long book, but I liked the multiple endings. It did not have a ‘tie-it-up-with-a-bow' typical fiction ending, but continued for another 100 pages or so. Barbara Kingsolver really outdid herself with this one.

A distressing story about a pair of twins separated at birth, but a story that is really about the decisions that people make, and how they impact others in the end. Beautifully written.

I waited a long time to read this book - Oprah's Book Club is the kiss of death for a book in my mind - but it is a wonderful story about how a family copes with raising a developmentally delayed daughter.

This is winning science fiction in my opinion. I can't write about it without giving away the whole story. Just read it.

The History of Greenland in fictional form. Very interesting, and VERY long.

A great cast of characters in a quirky New England Family

This book illustrates that one person really can make a difference. His descriptions of the villages of the Himalayas helped me understand what was happening in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Pleasant book about the immigrant experience.

This is currently a favorite for me. It definitely gets the award for the best use of time travel in a modern, full-length novel.

It might sound funny, but I learned a lot about circus life from this book. Interesting and entertaining.

OMG - this is a memoir, and it is a hair-raising tale. How the children in her family survived, we will never figure out.
